2 out of 5 eggsWorked good at first

Pros: It was cheap. Performed same as my old netgear. Range did not increase over my old Netgear G.

Cons: A little over a year my internet would constantly cut in and out. Making it impossible to play online games. I upgraded the firmware hoping that would do the trick. Still had same problem. I replaced the modem and still had same problem. Replaced router and problem solved.

Other Thoughts: Was hoping it would last longer than 16 months.

1 out of 5 eggsFrustrating all around

Pros: None

Cons: Difficult to set up, unreliable connection

Other Thoughts: We have bought this router when we moved to our new house and we bought it because we thought it was a good deal. We also liked D Link products back in the wired router days. However, this router took us hours to set up. The set up process directed us to the default way, which we tried 5 times and did not work. We then used the manual set up, and still couldn't get it to work. We then had to call customer services - it seemed that the issue was quite common, as the customer service representative was apparently reading a script and directed us through a fairly unintuitive installation process. They could have added the script in the set up manual. The router then worked for a few days without any problem, until one day it decided to disconnect for no apparent reason. We pretty much had to reboot the router 2 - 3 times every night. It was quite annoying. The speed was so-so. We were definitely not getting what we paid our IPS for (we later switched to a different router and t

5 out of 5 eggsFabulous for 7W!!!

Pros: I have owned this router for 5+ years (Rev. A1) - back when it consumed 15W. Admittedly it got hot back then, before I put taller feet under it to allow more airflow. Thereafter it has been rock solid. Today's version (Rev E3 received last week) only sips the power at 7W, and supports dd-wrt advanced firmware! I am more than satisfied with this little device - having deployed four of them here in my workplace - long distances, block walls, lots of steel, nothing seems to disrupt the signal! All the admin possible with dd-wrt!

Cons: does not do dishes, windows, walk the dog!

1 out of 5 eggsGreat til it failed

Pros: Great signal strength, even 30 or so meters away from my apartment building. When it worked, I would have guaged it at 5 but the failings are frustrating.

Cons: It started failing a couple of months ago. Signal would drop continuously. I have to reset the router daily, sometimes hourly. I have no idea what the cause is. I've tried resetting to default, flashing it, etc. Nothing gets this thing back to stability.

Other Thoughts: I've been a long time customer of DLink products and when this worked, it worked really well. I was quite pleased, but now I'm going to have to purchase something else. Not sure what yet.

2 out of 5 eggsConstant Wireless IP issues

Pros: Relatively inexpensive

Cons: The DHCP firmware on this router causes it to drop devices from the wireless network on a very regular basis.
The range on the wireless antennas is lacking. I have this router in the middle of my house and can barely connect two it one room over/up.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't get it!!

Pros: None

Cons: Refused to work with all my handheld game machines (3DS, PSP.) Also had problems connecting my Wii. After 90 day ran out, it started disconnecting. Installed ww-drt. Worked about 5 more months, then completely kicked all wireless devices off. Refused to allow wireless devices to connect. I bought a Belkin. Do not get this router.

4 out of 5 eggsIts OK wihout the stock firmware

Pros: Cheap 300n when I bought it (Router came free with wireless card). Hardware is of decent build quality.

Cons: Has a tendency to drop connections sporadically with stock firmware. Also overheats easily (needs to be elevated, stock rubber feet do not leave enough space between router and surface its sitting on).

Other Thoughts: The biggest problem with this router is that the stock firmware is horrible. It drops connections very often. I finally got sick of it after a year and installed DD-WRT. After the install its been smooth sailing. Connection drops have been reduced to zero and the with DD-WRT you have so many more options for configuring you network. The hardware is great except for a few cooling problems. I remedied this with some taller rubber feet to improve airflow.

2 out of 5 eggsI used to love D-Link

Pros: At the time I got it, it was the only N router out. Easy menu and setup.

Cons: 1. Had to find a crazy workaround to keep the wireless from constantly disconnecting that forced me to partially open the network. scary!

2. constantly have to reboot because devices fall off network.

3. Never any firmware releases in 3 years to fix well known bug described on point #1!!

4. newest problem (which is forcing me to get a new router now) is streaming video is as smooth as a 56k modem. seriously, I can download a file at 24mbps but cant get a 320 resolution youtube video to stop pausing to buffer. same thing with netflix and hulu! Unhook the router and connect directly to my modem and everything works perfect.

Other Thoughts: I never owned any router besides dlink but after getting 0 support and seeing they are more interested in making new products and completely disregarding current released products.
