If you've got more than one computer in the house, sooner or later, you'll probably need a local network of your own. And if you've got a gamer in the house, they'll want all the high-speed bandwidth they can get. Time to get a router where even the wireless runs at 108Mbps.
With four wired ports capable of running at 10/100/1000 Mbps and optimized for the gaming fan's needs, this router can feed your greed for speed. Not into games? Well, it should still do fine for heavy bandwidth applications like distributed video, while allowing your laptops the freedom to roam wherever your lap goes. The reverse SMA antenna is also removable so you can change it if you need to.
Is this the wireless router for you? Only you can decide that, but remember: we'll be waiting right here when you've made up your mind.
Pros: Ok, I've used probably about 6-10 wireless routers in my life. Most were cr@p and returned rather quickly for one reason or another. My requirements are simple. Reliable, Fast, and Configurable. None met all 3 until I came across the previous D-Link gaming router, the DGL-4300 (Not this one).
I was in heaven. It was FAST, Reliable, and very configurable... I could do all my VPN, VNC, SSH, whatever I wanted. It was perfect...
Well, I got a new draft-N laptop... and it kept cutting out. Keep in mind that I live in an apartment complex with at least 20 WiFi points in range.
So I bit the bullet and bought this router in hope of the draft-N working it's magic.

Cons: MAC Filtering: Ok, when you deny everyone but who's in your list... make SURE you add the computer you're typing on FIRST. Or you'll filter your system out and you might have to reset the router to default and start over.
Other Thoughts: I'm connected at 130Mbps and just transferred a few hundred megs in seconds. This blows me away. No drops... remember, I have at least 20 other WiFi routers in range. I'm a HAPPY camper :)
The web interface is the same as the 4300.. with a few more options...
Bottom line... if you want a router that's SOLID, FAST, RELIABLE, and CONFIGURABLE.... Get this.

Disappointed. Need new firmware.

Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 week to 1 month
Pros: Very stylish. Looks good.
Cons: I upgraded from the DGL-4300. I was very happy with the DGL-4300...but there was the DGL-4500. It is "N" and a newer product and I expected better tehonology but I was very disappointed. It was easy to set up but it disrupted my Vonage IP service so it was almost impossible to use. I have a lot of Dlink equipment and also some Dlink media players. On the DGL-4300 I had no trouble connecting to the DSM 320 media player. On the DGL-4500 I had a lot of trouble connecting to the DSM 320 player. I found out that the only way to make a connection was to reboot the Media software so everytime I had to connect to the player I had to reboot the Media player. Quite frequently I would also lose my internet connection for about 30 seconds. Very annoying.
Other Thoughts: I am now back on the DGL-4300 and cannot use the DGL-4500. I sure hope that D-link soon will release a new firmware that addresses all the problems with this router

Cons: Complicated setup unless you are very tech savy.
Other Thoughts: I was having trouble with throughput vpn, and this fixed the problem. My use is for work with lots of graphics content, causing the old router to slow to a snails pace despite Comcast's fastest service. Connecting directly to the modem worked so I replaced the old router with this one. Viola!

Firmware Warning Use 1.13 only
Reviewed By: Corroded on 11/30/2009
Tech Level: high - Ownership: more than 1 year
Pros: Great Gigabit wired networking, perfect for small home office with wired appliances, I have 2 printers and 2 NAS devices. I get about 15MB (yes, big B) throughput on this to my NAS's. There is an access schedule to turn off Internet/WAN access to individual devices, great detailed logging, and the WiFi works really strong as well. *** Firmaware 1.13 will not lockup in any way. I have some of these in non-tech homes. The only time in the past year it went offline was during a power outage... Virtually bullet proof*...
Cons: Bad parts now... Once you get it, upgrade to firmware 1.13 and no higher. 1.15 crashes and the 1.2x cause the router to become unresponsive within 1 to 5 days, you end up needing to unplug it and hard start it, unfortunatly the previous set of logs are wiped out and there in no trail to what causes the lockup... to make things worse, you CANNOT downgrade the FW once it is up on 1.2x. You are stuck with a router that MUST be REBOOTED at least once a week. I contacted D-Link about this and was given a brushoff by their support department. Now I am stuck with this unworkable situation.
Other Thoughts: As I said and will say again... Great router providing you use the Firmware 1.13 and no other. I provided all sorts of data and ever offered D-link support direct access to this device for confirmation and testing, they wanted nothing to do with making it work right on the later firmwares...
IF.... D-Link will fix the firmware lockup issue I will give this a 5 egg, since you need to use caution I wanted to give it a 1 egg but the rest of the system keeps it a 4 egg.
Be Aware!
