2 out of 5 eggsPoor Linux support for B2 revision

Pros: It's not like the hardware is horrible...

I like that it comes with a USB cable + stand so you don't have to plug such a fat device in at your USB port.

Cons: On Linux if you get the B2 revision of this device it will use an RT5572 chipset, which is not supported (to my knoweldge) by Kernel drivers listed on wireless.kernel.org as of 11/2012.

This leaves you with the Ralink drivers which are source downloadable from Ralink's website, but they're kind of buggy. If you fiddle with them it's possible to get improvement, but getting them to compile and install on 12.04.1 Ubuntu seemed leave them in a state where they drop connections frequently and the device needed to be replugged in.

Other Thoughts: Probably better Linux support will arrive eventually for the B2 revision, but it might be a while.

1 out of 5 eggsTrash

Pros: Good connection speed while it worked.

Cons: After 3 weeks it starts having problems and can no longer search for wireless networks. I uninstall the drivers to see if they needed to be reinstalled and i tried to install the newest driver. I keep getting an error that the instance was already running when it was not. The cost of this is unbelievable high for such a low grade product.

Caveat emptor

4 out of 5 eggsWD Live TV Hub

Pros: Signal is consistent and I've had no issues with streaming HD video over the connection.

Works with the WD Live TV Hub.

Cons: My device is only showing 2 of 3 bars for signal strength and it's only in the next room. I got this adapter specifically because it matches my D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band router. Both devices brag about a 300Mbps connection but I'm only getting about 60-70 for some reason. I've checked for interference and competing wireless channels and I see no reason for this except maybe it's a problem with the Live Hub.

Other Thoughts: Other's have had issues with this newer revision not working on the WD Live TV Hub, but it works for me (with the latest firmware). WD has probably updated their firmware to support it.

I don't get anywhere near a 300Mbps connection but I have no trouble streaming HD media, so no real loss I guess. It just bugs me that it's not performing at its peak.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fantastic in linux

Pros: Absolutely plug-n-play in Mint Linux 11. Plugged it into USB port, dialog box came up asking for wireless password, instant connect, Minecraft, full speed ahead!

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: I've been around Linux for years. Tried all different brands and models of USB wireless adapters on this particular computer and nothing else worked.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome, While it lasted

Pros: Insanely speedy, did the job exponentially. Overall a beast adapter

Cons: Didn't last longer than a year and a few months. Just stopped responding all-together even after a complete OS re-install.

Other Thoughts: Maybe the hours upon hours of online Gaming I logged with this put it out of commission.

2 out of 5 eggsFastbut poor range

Pros: Boosted speed from 5.8mbs to 9.8mbs

Cons: It had a lower signal strength than my built-in N router on my laptop

Other Thoughts: I bought this to use for wifi in campgrounds to boost the signal. Would be good if you want more speed but don't have to be far away from the router.

5 out of 5 eggsJust works in Linux

Pros: I plugged this into my PCLinuxOS box, and it "just worked." Not fiddling or anything, and I'm getting a 90%+ signal with my router. Rev B hardware. I did not buy from newegg, but got it at the circuit city closeout, and it's always worked great.

Cons: None really.

1 out of 5 eggsD-Link DWA-160 IEEE 802.11a/g, IEEE 802.11n USB 2.0 Xtreme N Dual Band Adapter

Pros: None this thing almost never works I would give it 0 stars if I could.

Cons: Don't buy this piece of c**p! I have called tech support countless times and they never got it working for more than a few hours at a time. It takes a long time to get through to them and Indian accents are hard to understand. I asked for a replacement every time but they just strung me along with band-aids that never worked longer than a few hours. They knew time was on their side and now the warranty has run out and it's a total waste of money. This is the worst accessory I have ever bought. D-Link has never been reliable for me and I'll never buy their products again. I just wanted to share my experience so others could be spared the frustration.

Other Thoughts: Don't even think of buying this Dlink product.

3 out of 5 eggsWD LiveTV - Incompatable revision

Pros: Gets strong signals on my laptop to my Dlink router using N. Easy setup.

Cons: Despite WD listing this unit as being compatible with their Live TV box, it is not. After lots of troubleshooting, I found that only certain versions (or revisions) of this device were tested for compatibility, and current models now have incompatible hardware. No idea if that's true or not. Since it seems to be a crapshoot on getting one that will work, I wouldn't suggest someone purchase this for use with the WD box. Works fine, otherwise.

Other Thoughts: I did order the D-link DWA-140 and can confirm it works w/ the LiveTV box just fine.
