4 out of 5 eggsGreat AP, but challenging installation

Pros: Great range at 2.4/5 GHz
Works well with D-Link 655 router
Guest zone is a great feature
Great price

Cons: Limited instructions
Challenging installation

Other Thoughts: Installation should not have been difficult. I've installed many routers/APs before. Instructions seemed straighforward: connect to computer, plug it in, type in IP address, follow instructions on web-based window. Except that the web-based window never appeared. Lights came on the AP as expected. Switch (in back) had been set to AP 2.4GHz mode by me, and checked and rechecked. Multiple attempts at pressing the reset button and disconnecting power source (as suggested in the instructions) failed to do anything. Instructions suggested "try another computer"; that didn't work either.
So here is what you need to do:
1) before doing anything, make sure WiFi on your (laptop) computer is turned off, or wired on desktop is disconnected.
2) I used a MacBook Air (wireless).
3) Follow the rest of the instructions (connect AP to computer, etc).
4) Make sure to set the channel to something other than your other APs use (reduces interference).
5) Make sure that the subnet mask is the same as router.
6) If you have a D-Link router, expect it to assign the AP a DHCP IP address, even if you choose static AP (once connected to the network).
7) Disconnect from the computer, and connect the AP to the network (either directly or through a hub/switch).
8) Enjoy the improved range.

Note: I did not try the AP in bridge mode.

Continues to work really well, and consistently provides the strongest signal of my 4 routers/APs (including D-Link 655).

3 out of 5 eggsDoes it's job

Pros: I get good reliable speeds with this thing. Used it to connect my HTPC, PS3, DVR, and Voip over 5ghz N to my router upstairs about 30' away. Even with a lot of signal loss I was streaming high def videos perfectly that wouldn't play correctly at all over 2.4 ghz. At half signal you are going to destroy 2.4 ghz speeds.

Cons: The UI on this thing leaves something to be desired, I took an egg because it is truly bad. Setup can be a pain the first time around for something that should be very simple.
The second egg I docked is from the ac adapter failing after about a year, I had to buy a replacement from radio shack for about 20 bucks. I could easily see people thinking their device died and giving up on it when it was just the power cord.

Other Thoughts: The 5 ghz range is poor but that's standard with all 5 ghz devices. Also nowhere on this thing's description does it say "simultaneous dual band", so why dock eggs for it not being able to? People shouldn't be bashing this device because they are ignorant.

2 out of 5 eggsEither-Band, not Dual-Band

Pros: 4 port Gigabit switch - nice feature on an access point.

Cons: I have revision H/W ver B1. It has a switch on the back with which you can select either 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz. What I expect from a Dual Band access point is the ability to both simultaneously. Incidently, the Quick Start manual doesn't mention the 3-position switch. The 3rd position is Bridge. It only says to select Access Point or Bridge.

Other Thoughts: There are no link lights for the network ports. I've never had a network switch that didn't indicate if there was connection or traffic.

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Works as intended. Was a little tough to set up at first but it's working great now. Use it as a connection point for upstairs in the house.

Cons: Instructions could have been a bit easier.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy to configure

Pros: -Powerful broadcast strength
-Easy setup
-Comes with extra Ethernet cable
-What more could one need from a Wireless AP?

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Lots of different ways to mount it. Lots of different ways to set it up (PIN or autodiscover). This was exactly what I needed, as my router is on the other end of the house and on a different floor. Thanks for a crazy deep sale on really nice hardware, Newegg!!

5 out of 5 eggsSimple, works great

Pros: Fast. Simple. Reliable.

Cons: Initial setup instructions claim that it will auto-configure your ethernet with DHCP. This wasn't true, I had to set a static IP to access its web configurator.

Other Thoughts: We moved into a house where the ethernet jacks were all in the wrong places, and I am using two of those: one for the entertainment console where it connects PC, netflix, pandora, etc, and the other in the bedrrom where it connects an old wired Slimp3 player (don't ask why I keep these around, seems easier than changing everything)

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well for us

Pros: - Simple setup
- Strong signal
- No signal hiccups yet
- Nice design

Cons: - None for me
- Some people may not like the bright blue lights on the front if they like to work in the dark or have it in a room where you like to watch movies in the dark, you'll see the blinking blue lights.

Other Thoughts: After reading reviews on this product I was skeptical to purchase it for our home. But, it went on sale for a cool $80 and I already have a DIR-825 that it matches nicely with, and I'm a sucker for things that match. We live in a 2,200 sqft home and the DIR-825 is in the bonus room over the garage. The wireless signal was extremely weak in the other end of the house where my wife's office was. We put this device in the greatroom in the center of the house and now have excellent wireless signal everywhere! And I didn't realize when purchasing this that it's still one localized wireless signal, you don't have to setup to connect to each one individually. You'll only see one connection in the house (that's yours) which makes life easy.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great but only in 2.4GHz mode

Pros: I've had two of these for several years and I haven't had any stability trouble with either one using 2.4GHz. I'm buying a third one. I use them as an external antenna when a wireless card can't pick up a strong or steady signal. Not their intended purpose but they work.

Cons: 5.0GHz is almost worthless. 60% signal when less than ten feet away with no abstractions. I'm using this with a D-Link Xtreme-N router. Signal almost zero when traveling through one wall. 2.4GHz is strong. 5.0 signal not steady enough to stream anything. 2.4 streams well.

Other Thoughts: I only use 2.4GHz because of the pitiful 5.0 signal. Minis one egg.

1 out of 5 eggsTotally dead after 7 month

Pros: good when it is working.

Cons: bad bad bad quality, only worked about 6 month, then start on and off for about 1 month, now totally dead.

Other Thoughts: I know I cannot return it, otherwise I want my money back!!!
I need a replacement.

1 out of 5 eggsworst ever

Pros: low profile.

Cons: I am an IT guy, build up my personal network by myself. Have been using D-Link products for almost 10 years. This brand used to be acceptable. Bought this product in July 2012 and 5 month later, I cannot not even watch a full 25min YouTube video through this terrible product! Because I have to reboot it twice in 25 mins!!!!! Bad bad bad product. Please stay away from it.

PS, I have my Linksys router for almost 7 years and it is still rock solid. Worst experience ever!!
