1 out of 5 eggs2nd one - same issues

Pros: Easy setup

Cons: Absolutely no internet from 5ghz. Sounds like other people have this issue. This was "free" with the Motorola SB6141. I had to RMA the first one because I couldn't get out to the internet on the 5ghz wireless. 2.4 worked fine. Same issue with the replacement. Not impressed at all. Upgraded firmware from the Canada site to firmware 2.0.2 http://support.dlink.ca/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-815

No change. I've gotten limited connectivity on my wireless a few times. Never had an issue with my Linksys WRT54GS. I would have kept that one, by my Internet speeds are capped by wireless-g. I will be looking around for a reliable N router. This one is junk.

1 out of 5 eggsD.O.A

Pros: Didn't get a chance to see any pros.

Cons: Everything.

Other Thoughts: This router was DOA, I got this router free with the purchase of a Motorola Cable modem. Got my modem setup and then proceded to install this router, opended the box, pulled router out and then plugged into power outlet. Power came on and within 6 secs went off and the unit would never come on again. DOA - sent in for RMA.

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless

Pros: Cheap

Cons: It took about 30min to install this product and several repeated attempts to configure it. It worked, with limited range for a few hours and then it stopped. I rebooted it several times before finally giving up and removing it. I went back to my D-Link 615 for more reliable connections and better range. Very disappointed.

1 out of 5 eggsNo wonder they're giving this away free

Pros: The management interface is familiar? That's about it.

Cons: 5 gHz band simply will NOT connect to the internet. 2 gHz band works ok, until the unit needs a reboot. Which is "frequently". Will try RMA, but not optimistic.

Other Thoughts: No wonder they're giving this away for free (with purchase of a Motorola Surfboard cable modem). Not worth the headache, though, even if free. Avoid this unit.

5 out of 5 eggsDual Band Wireless

Pros: Blazing fast network for a small home. Stream full 1080p without lag.

Cons: 5GHz is a small signal area. You have to be close to the router to get no lag with 1080p. If you have a large home I would not recommend.

Other Thoughts: Since no usb wireless adapter supports Windows 8 yet. The only way to stream from my new Windows 8 laptop to my network player in dual band wireless is through an access point or a router setup as an access point. I will use this router as a daisy chain/access port. It extends the wireless signal and lets you stream in dual band using Windows 8.

1 out of 5 eggsDo yourself a favor, don't

Pros: Had this router for 1 year and a couple of months. It's now a paper weight, after getting an in-warranty replacement.

Cons: The router has been nothing but problems since day 1. I was never able to open ports (so any gaming or services won't work), the router needed constant reboots, D-Link's support is non-existent, no firmware updates, and their manual says one thing, yet the device does not actually have the features listed. For example, you cannot have this router in AP mode, even though the manual shows some mysterious option in the router's config page, which doesn't exist in reality. Additionally, its firewall is improperly configured so if you somehow manage to get it to open ports, you won't be able to access your own service on the WAN IP (you can't type your own IP address in the browser to see your apache instance). Also, transfer speeds are very slow, but then again, this router is not built recently. It's very old. Got a refurbished replacement and that's dead now in less than 2 months, and of course, the warranty is out. How convenient.

Other Thoughts: Buy something else, not D-Link

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in one week, don't buy it

Pros: Has good features, power switch for each power cycling

Cons: Does not work. After one week of use, I tried to upgrade firmware and device crashed on reboot. Blinking orange light. no way to bring it back to life. Dlink support is impossible to access. Had to buy another device.

Other Thoughts: Dlink used to be good, not anymore

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Usual D-Link quality.

Cons: The description says "Two (2) Detachable Reverse Antennas" meanwhile the manufacturer's website says "Two (2) External Dipole Antennas". Indeed, they are NOT detachable, which was the reason I picked this particular model.
