3 out of 5 eggsSome good some bad

Pros: Will play just about any file type you can think of.
I have had 2 Boxee boxes since they first came out. I had many issues until the most recent (last) software update. I never have any problems with the device crashing or locking up, but I only use it to stream videos/movies off of my NAS.

Cons: Don't bother with the apps, they either just suck or only allow you to watch some guys video blog about something lame.

Other Thoughts: great for local file streaming but never really worked for streaming from the internet. Browser will work, but really frustrating to use.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrid

Pros: Nice physical design, nice Netflix app

Cons: This box crashes often on regular use.
Playback of local files is horrid - the box often crashes and the wi-fi seems to lose connection.
The web browser's flash version is old so can't play lots of online content.
The box is unsupported now (old) so nothing will be fixed anymore.
Overall a horrid purchase.
This box is not ready for public use - the software should have been more checked for bugs a long time ago.

1 out of 5 eggsShort Life

Pros: It did everything I wanted it do. Overall, I was pleased with the product until it failed.

Cons: The device only lived for 14 months and then died. D-Link said they were sorry and couldn't do anything for me. Very poor customer service. I won't be buying any of their products in the future.

4 out of 5 eggsBest player on the market

Pros: Plays files from my personal library as well as a huge collection of channels. RF remote, fast response, nice interface.

Cons: No Hulu? Hulu sucks, but still...
Boxee is no longer supporting this device in favor of their smaller cheaper box. I hear the Boxee Live is as bad as most other players on the market. Boxee Box is a superior product and they are going the way of every other piece of junk?

Other Thoughts: More expensive than other players, but well worth the money.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Player

Pros: I have never come across a file this device could not recognize and play without error. Friends with other devices, like Roku and Apple, and they seem to have playback issues over wireless during playback with things like water in the background, or with dark shadows and black spots. The boxee has no issues with this. I stream files over wireless and rarely have connection issues with anything under 14 Gigs. When files I play are larger, I use the local USB connection and a hard drive with my media. I've played 40 Gig BluRay quality movies wihtout any issue. The Boxee does have browser support and a ton of apps. Netflix, Pandora, YouTube are just some of the popular ones, but there are also a ton of other developed apps that are fun to look through.

Cons: Hulu is not one of the apps available. Although, I may be able to access this through the browser just fine...I need to check.

Other Thoughts: This has been a very good cost/benefit solution for me. I convert many of my movies to digital format (I own them all) and the Boxee just makes it easier for my entire family to enjoy whatever they want to watch without digging through physical media.

3 out of 5 eggsNice but not perfect

Pros: As said by others, this thing plays any video file I have thrown at it. AVI, MPG, even MKV and more. I like that it has a built in player and I don't have to stream it I store all my media (video, pictures and music) files on my computer and access it using the boxee in my living room. The apps are cool, most anyway, I only use a few of them regularly.

Cons: The browser is a joke. The remote should have been backlit. The music player is way out of it's league if you have a large library. It's cumbersome to find an artist you want to play.

Other Thoughts: Overall I am happy with it for the $99 I paid. It does the job I bought it to do. If it had a better browser I would have given it another egg. I couldn't build an HTPC for that price, that does the same things the Boxee does. Never had a problem with it other than occasionally having to reboot it. Once in a great while it will freeze up when it is in sleep mode.

1 out of 5 eggsJunkee Box

Pros: Very different case design that looks neat. Plays every file format you throw at it. Uses a proprietary branch of XBMC (Although XBMC folks probably cringe at that fact) When it works..

Cons: There are cheaper alternatives that last longer. Poor longevity. D-Link customer support really, really sucks. D-Link support reps barely speak english (See other thoughts). Mine died after 5 months.

Other Thoughts: My RMA Process continues to be an absolute nightmare. D-Link made me pay for shipping to RMA the FIRST broken unit. I wait two weeks to get one sent back to me. The one D-Link sent back to me was broken and would not power on. I call their support number and wait on hold forever and get tossed around to multiple departments multiple times before being told I would have to yet PAY AGAIN TO RMA the broken one they sent to me.

THE ABSOLUTE VERY LAST D-LINK PRODUCT I WILL EVER BUY!

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND AVOID A HEADACHE! You can build an HTPC for this cost which won't cause you a migraine.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's a So So Product

Pros: Easy to use. Can hook up to an outdoor antenna, although need to purchase an additional adapter. Picture quality is good. User interface is OK too.

Cons: Crashed a few times already. Need to reboot in order to use it again. You would lose your login info on Netflix. Also there is no captioning on the over the air tv. Application launch is kinda slow. Remote should be a little bigger.

Other Thoughts: I was going to buy an Roku because it's cheaper, but it can't hook up to the outdoor antenna so I bought the Boxee instead.

1 out of 5 eggsBUYER BEWARE!!

Pros: The Navi-X repository, and it's not even developed by Boxee.

Cons: Laggy, virtually no support from Boxee, don't even think of pressing a remote button while it's working because it will crash.

Other Thoughts: BUYER BEWARE!! BOXEE HAS DROPPED SUPPORT OF THIS BOX IN FAVOR OF THEIR NEW PAID SERVICE. THEY HAVE PROMISED FIXES FOR MONTHS WITH NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT. THIS BOX SHOULD HAVE BEEN PULLED OFF OF STORE SHELVES BY NOW. D-LINK SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO HAVE THEIR NAMES TIED TO IT. IF YOU PURCHASE ONE NOW, IT WILL HAVE NO SUPPORT EVER!! YOU'RE BUYING A $200 BRICK.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than XBox/PS3/MCE

Pros: Plays 1080p MKV's from personal BD collection. Plays everything I've thrown at it including the goofy BBC interlaced VC1's. Based on XBMC which is a plus. Unit is small. RF remote is nice and work from any orientation. Screensaver easily changed with SD card. Has Netflix which works well. Comes with HDMI cable.

Cons: Not exactly intuitive, takes getting used to. Applications are populated with a lot of stuff I didn't want and had to remove them one at a time. Doesn't have Hulu. Integrated browser isn't very useful. Can't skip ads in YouTube videos. Remote runs on a watch battery (included).

Other Thoughts: 1080p material only plays perfectly on a wired connection and only via UPNP (I run from a Synology). Otherwise the playback will buffer a lot on SMB, NFS. The unit has a light-up Boxee logo on the side that dims during playback.
