5 out of 5 eggsWorking Great for a Year

Pros: Working great at top speeds for at least 8 to 10 wireless devices over N band with wpa2. No problems really over a year.

Cons: The interface is not clear on somethings like the network filter. After you figure it out it makes sense though.

Other Thoughts: It was a lot cheaper when I bought it.

2 out of 5 eggsGood performance when it works

Pros: This router has excellent range, fair speed, and a wide range of configurable options.

Cons: Unfortunately, the router locks up about once a week, and worst of all is that any change to any setting requires a restart.

Other Thoughts: For what it's worth, I've upgraded the firmware a number of times. I'm a network security engineer by day, so I also know a little more than how to set the password.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and reliable

Pros: I got my computer running from a range extender mid way through the house and this thing on the other side. I was shocked this thing reached the range extender but it did. Have it coupled with the wireless N card from D-Link. Just as fast as when I plug it into the ethernet port.

Cons: When you have this thing too far away from the router it can disconnect from time to time and you have to restart the router. However when youare within 80 feet or so its perfect!

Other Thoughts: My cable modem is the bottle-neck at 2gb per sec

1 out of 5 eggsStay away!

Pros: none!

Cons: Stay away from this router! It is not ready for market. Bought this one and it was nothing but trouble the entire time it was in service. Frequent signal drops, frequent reboots needed and lousy performance for iTunes running music from a NAS. Replaced it with a D-Link 825. Do yourself a favor and spend less money for a better router!

Other Thoughts: Dlink! What were you thinking??? You ought to buy all of these back. I spent 160 on the original router and 100 to replace it. Shame on you for rushing a product to market and then abandoning it! (Firmware is still factory 1.0 version)

1 out of 5 eggsDissapointing

Pros: None At All!

Cons: The initial unit was difficult to program, not possible to enter multiple macs or IP reservations at once it forced an update after EVERY input. With the Extended reboot time it made it a LONG process.

First unit failed after 1 month. Would no longer access the internet - could not populate a WAN Ip Address.

Second unit would not HOLD a wireless connection. Every wireless pc would be booted from the network every ten minutes. The pc's wireless adapter would need to be disabled then enabled in order to re-attach to the network.

Also you can not run the router in 5 Ghz mode and have it support 2.4 Ghz products.

Overall wireless performance was pitiful.

Customer support was horrible - enough for me to consider a competitors product.

Kudos to New Egg for working with me and doing right by me - New Egg Rules !

Other Thoughts: As my old DIR-655 worked flawlessly I re attached it.
This unit was brought to market to soon.
I would give this -rating if I could

1 out of 5 eggsD-Link DIR-665

Pros: When "working" with an Intel Ultimate-N 6300 it is really great.

Cons: However when streaming movies and it drops wireless and needs rebooting anywhere from 5 mins to 1 hour it isn't so great. Would give this high priced piece of junk zero eggs if I could.

Other Thoughts: Looks like D-Link (had an earlier non-n D-Link product that was rock solid) rushed this out the door, then realized that it was a big mistake and it has become a lonely stepchild of theirs. Seems that either the product can't be fixed with a firmware update or if it could be fixed with a firmware update they simply never bothered. I for one will never buy another D-Link product. Will give the Cisco-Linksys E4200 a shot, ordered direct from Cisco, at least it is getting vary good reviews.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy this router.

Pros: None

Cons: This router is the biggest piece of garbage I've ever purchased. I've had this router for almost a month now and all it ever does is drop the signal on its own!! At first I thought it was connection problems via the cable modem or my ISP, but soon I came to find out it was this router. We have three desktops, five laptops, and four rooted HTC Evo phones in our home and every single one of them experienced drop out/connectivity issues with this router. For some reason or another the internet connection would slow down or drop out and I would have to pull the power and reset this thing almost daily. To compare I then connected an old Linksys WRT54G router (Wireless-G only) and not one single problem with speed or lost connectivity.

Other Thoughts: Setting up a printer via this router's USB port is also quite a chore, although it can be done with some trial and error and only after downloading the Shareport Manual from D-Link's website. Also, you can use this router for simultaneous wireless G and N, but you cannot use simultaneous 2.4G and 5G. It's either one or the other but not both.

5 out of 5 eggsRock solid, fantastic range, great features & value

Pros: Substantial increase in range vs. my DIR-655; easy setup; fast, powerful, intuitive admin UI; great value on sale ($159.99 & free shipping w/coupon, thanks TechBargains!), great look/design (wish it came in black, though...)

Cons: Logs are not as easy to read/helpful as they were with the DIR-655; no guest network capability; high price (if not on sale); BRIGHT BLUE LEDs (I think they actually look cool but most people hate 'em);

Other Thoughts: Was motivated to upgrade because my DIR-655 was flaking periodically, had problems staying connected to my Droid Incredible, and would occasionally drop connections to my wife's older T43 laptop, and I wanted greater range. The DIR-665 has exceeded my expectations so far. Router is in the basement of my ranch style house and I am now getting 100% signals where before I saw 70-80%. Haven't tested it outside yet but expect gains there too. Very, very happy with this purchase.
