5 out of 5 eggsShould have ordered the 1210-52

Pros: This is the second one of these I've purchased. The first is still running great, I was just running a little short on ports.

Configuration is simple, except for the inconvenience of changing your computer's IP address to access the management console for the first time. That's less of an inconvenience than having to dig up one of my old boxes with a serial port.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Newegg must be responding to the reviews. My first shipping experience was the same as the others listed here, open box and everything.

The one I ordered last week arrived double boxed and taped. Way to go NewEgg!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Product, incompetent shipping

Pros: This is a great managed switch, and the price can't be beat.

Cons: It's too bad we can't have two sets of rating stars. The product itself would get 5 stars.

Newegg shipping, however, would get zero stars. Just as in a review below, whoever shipped this, didn't even bother to seal the box! Net result? UPS hands me an OPEN PACKAGE, with the power cable missing. A replacement is being shipped at no charge, but that doesn't excuse the carelessness of whoever shipped this unit.

4 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: 24 GigE ports with web and snmp management. That is all I need and this switch does that.

Cons: No IPv6 support. Telnet not SSH. Turning on https makes the web interface slow.

Other Thoughts: Can't say how well this stands up to attacks. I never put a public IP on a managed switch and I never use the fancy features.

5 out of 5 eggsGood switch, disappointed with packaging

Pros: 20 gigabit ports, 4 gigabit/SFP ports, easy to use web interface (works for me under IE, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome without a problem), plenty of features for those with a decent understanding of networking, does not generate enough heat to merit a fan [hence, it is fanless], perfect for SMB/Home networking.

Cons: The box pictured is the box in which Newegg ships the switch (wholesale packaging). Newegg didn't even bother to seal the box with tape; just stuck a shipping label on the side. If you don't care that anybody between Newegg and your front door can open the box without leaving any evidence that it was opened, this is the switch for you!

Other Thoughts: It might be nice to have 24 fixed gigabit ports with an additional two or four gigabit/SFP combination ports. Be sure to save your configuration; changes apply immediately, but won't be retained through a reboot if the configuration is left unsaved. Good switch for the price!
