4 out of 5 eggsSimpler than expected

Pros: Easier setup than expected. QOS. Encryption

Cons: Somewhat confusing lights. Center light for connection is red if connected but with lower bandwidth (<50mbps). Can confuse you if you're used to Red = Bad (which is does in this case but not critically bad).

Other Thoughts: I believe a bit of passive polling or informational access via TCP/IP to a client PC would be helpful for determining connectivity rates and issues between devices. All power plugs wiring is not necessarily equal and it can help for testing a "best plug" for a room. In my case, some of the wiring in my 1950's home had been improved while the rest was original. Finding a newer direct run of romex down to the basement raised my throughput substantially.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't Work

Pros: Easy set up; was able to set up easily in the same room although thru-put was only 130mbs for the remote;

Cons: Continued failures, low transmission rate; I moved the unit to my remote location (garage) and had a connection, but speed dropped to 36mbs. However when I rebooted the laptop at the remote location, the connection would be dropped and not again found even after going through the whole default and connection procedure.

Other Thoughts: Went through three sessions with D-link support, and one replacement from New Egg. Support finally gave up on it and told me to return it.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work for me.

Pros: Supposedly creates a high bandwidth tunnel (200Mbps) with high stability. Great alternative to wireless networking.

Cons: My kit didn't work. I tried setting up both adapters in the same room, resetting them, power cycling them, power cycling the router, disabling all firewall applications, installing the software that came with the adapters and doing some device detection troubleshooting, etc. Nothing worked; the throughput LED never came on. Also note that the devices were all plugged directly into wall outlets, no power bars or extension cords involved.

I spent an hour with DLink tech support. Getting a new kit, and if this one doesn't work either, it means my house's electrical wiring simply does not support powerline adapters.

Other Thoughts: Had high hopes. Oh well.
