1 out of 5 eggsWorked fine for 1 month

Pros: Good wireless range while it worked

Cons: After 1 month, wireless disconnects sometimes multiple times per day. Had this problem with initial purchase. Replaced via RMA and replacement had exhibited exactly same problem (fine for 1 month, then continuous disconnects).

Other Thoughts: Bought this primarily for extended wireless range for which this Dir-645 has been highly touted. Had been using $20 Rosewill RNX-N150RT which works very reliably, but need some additional range. Dir-645 did have somewhat improved range (definitely better, but not dramatic). So I was satisfied. After about 1 month. router began dropping wireless connection sometimes multiple times per day. Replaced it via RMA. Now replacement product is experiencing exactly same problem after 1 month. Apparently terrible quality control with this D-Link product. Going to try one more RMA. Unfortunately, each RMA return shipment costs $14.71, so I've already spent more than $29 just in return fees. Only positive here is that I have my reliable little Rosewilll for temporary backup.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate of review from 7/31/2012

Pros: Since RMA of device, it has worked flawlessly. No wired drops, no wireless drops, plus has a strong signal. Therefore, woohoo!

Cons: Had to RMA device originally, although turnaround was reasonable.

Other Thoughts: It seems to be quite fond of dust.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy this router

Pros: None

Cons: All kind of problems. Upgraded the Firmware to the latest but never corrected the speed issue. I am always locked in to 65 Mb/s even the laptop is only 2 feet away- Tech Support had no idea how to correct the issue. Reset to factory default and reversing the Firmware to it's original version did not help either.

Other Thoughts: Stay away.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat router

Pros: Excellent router. I bought this router back in March of 2012 and it has performed flawlessly, no resets. I got 2 laptops and 2 PC's on the wireless and I get great signal and good range. Nice design, too.

Cons: Has dropped in price since I purchased it.

Other Thoughts: I could never understand why people judge a product or manufacturer harshly calling it "junk" or telling people not to buy it based on their one bad experience with the product. There is no such thing as a perfect brand, just some better than others.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: none

Cons: Don't waste your money. Bought 2 of these less than a year ago for clients and they both have major issues ranging from nothing working at all on the one except the power light is on too the other one not assigning an ip address to computers.

Other Thoughts: You have to install software if you want to use the usb port on the router and then you can only have one computer use the printer at a time and will not queue documents.

1 out of 5 eggsNot good

Pros: Lot of different options allow for many and varied security configurations.

Cons: Slow speeds and drops connections randomly. This appears to be a common problem with this thing and the only reason I did not return it was I was talking to the Tech Support people trying to get it fixed. Now it sits as an expensive brick.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Router

Pros: I've had several d-link routers before, the software installed on it is pretty much the same. Easy to install, works great.

Cons: I was hoping for a bit more range, but I don't have many options on where to put my router in my house because of how old it is. I know its location is more of the problem than the actual range.

Other Thoughts: It works, easy setup. Wireless N.

4 out of 5 eggsHappy so far

Pros: Works as advertised.
Definitely strong signal.
Configuration screens are feature-rich, fast, & well organized.
Looks pretty cool - wide base means it will not fall over.

Cons: Setup wizard just flat *did not work*.
Maybe a little on the large side.
No nice little blinky lights to show what cables are plugged in.
And not really a con - the software to access the USB port works fine but in this day and age does not really seem necessary.

Regarding the DLink setup wizard, I tried it several times and each time it threw an exception on about the third screen. No useful info and I couldn't do anything about it anyway, so I clicked through and let it do it's thing, and the router went to a screen showing a progress bar as it tried to connect. Eventually, it failed. Very unimpressive, especially with the way it displayed some sort of "Engrish" message like "It must please wait while connecting". Yech.

Sometimes I got an error something like "one wired connection must be enabled" What?. I eventually just punted on the wizard and went through it manually and got it set up fine. Deduct a star for that debacle.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because I was having problems getting my blu-ray wifi to connect.

I chose it because I had a DLink router before and I just liked everything about it. But one day it took a power surge and sparked out and I had to replace it. The only thing on the store shelves these days are NearGets, which are okay but the configuration screen on the one I bought was slow and clunky, and it did not have the full-featured port-forwarding that DLink has. I used it for a couple of years, and plan on keeping it as a spare.

The 645 is now set up and working and seems solid. Definitely stronger than the router it replaced, both wired and wifi (4 bars versus 2 at the far end of the house), but am still hitting issues with trying to connect wifi to my blu-ray player. Maybe too far away - I will try again and move the router closer

5 out of 5 eggsHard wired

Pros: Fantastic when hard wired. I don't use it much in wireless. 3 units running at the same time. 2 builds, 1 company supplied and once and a while with my laptop which is wireless. All without a hitch, glitch or stutter.
The house is a 2400sq feet one level and units are separated by halls and walls. 2 on a 50 ft line with a switch.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: It works for me. I hope I'm not the only person in the world who doesn't need wireless everywhere I go.
