1 out of 5 eggsjunk

Pros: None

Cons: OK, had a DIR-657 and while the cable tech was installing a new modem as a upgrade he informed me I should upgrade my router. Since installing the dir857 my Android devices wont see my network media server to upload our photos and vids anymore. My myPS3 has a slower connection and inconsistent speed when tested. Disabling the 5GHZ wireless effects the speed of the PS3 when using the cable making it faster but still 5Mbps slower than my old dir657 that indicates a weak infrastructure of the device either processing power or power supply in general, who really knows. Tech had no luck so ever trying to correct the problems I have now and have reinstalled he old 10 year old dir657 and all works fine as before. Two weekends on the phone with tech, firmware upgrade, resetting to default settings and dozens of resets and tweeks and no luck. This product it a peace of junk. For some it may be a upgrade but for me,,,, no.
If you have been using a cheap low quality router it may be an improvement for you but if you want to back up your photos and vids from your android phones it wont work unless you buy a new DLNA media server and get lucky. Just the fact the wired speed goes up with the 5ghz feature turned off raises a red flag.

Other Thoughts: Forget the instructions!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful Router

Pros: Very intuitive interface, power features. Dual band allows for simultaneous wireless networks at each band.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: At first, I thought the router had some issues. I had turned on remote access with graphical authentication over HTTPS. I immediately had problems logging in to the router. Turns out it was being spammed by bots trying to log in to it, so I could never get to the log in page without rebooting it. I turned off remote management and all works great now.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Router!

Pros: The router has a great design that better matches D-Link's newer style switches. The connection is very stable and features such as guest networks and simultaneous dual-band are great.

Cons: Price is higher than other routers so same may choose to go other routes because of it.

Other Thoughts: I've tried all the major brands, but have come to be a loyal D-Link customer. This router didn't let me down.

5 out of 5 eggsNot Again!

Pros: D-Link Tech Support was SUPER!

I'm sure this will be great and will do an in-depth review just as I did the Asus N66U adapter a couple of days ago.

Cons: D-Link Tech Support confirmed the reason for my worry upon opening the package.

Other Thoughts: When I called D-Link Tech Support and raised my concerns they asked me for the serial number of the unit and put me on hold. They returned and told me the unit was manufactured on June 17, 2011. Get that year. 2011. Further, it was a re-pack. They gave me a Case # and said they would follow it and I should call back with the new unit's SSN.
This happened to me a couple of years ago with Newegg but never before and I've been a good, buying, recommending customer for a dozen years.
Well, at least they paid the return shipping but I'm anxious to get the whole system up and running. See my review of the Asus N66 Uadapter.

1 out of 5 eggsNot happy yet...

Pros: When this works it works well. 2.4GHz is strong, 5GHz has OK range. Wired is fine and relatively fast.

Cons: Lots. This is very difficult to set up. I have had to reboot this each morning to make BOTH wireless bands reconnect to my iPhone 4S and iPad2. The Wi-Fi disconnects during the night. I can access the internet but not Facebook & iTunes App Store. I must reboot the 857 to make them work. BUT they work fine on the other router/AP without the reboot so the problem is the 857 configuration. Interestingly, both a WBR-2310 & DI-2553 run THROUGH the 857.

I have a trouble ticket into D-Link - I will see if they know which parameters I have wrong or if this is a defective unit.

Other Thoughts: I have a complex system to feed a wide ranch style home. I use ALL D-Link eqpmt but am about to rethink that now. I have a DI-2553 & a WBR-2310 and 2 switches all running through the DIR-857.

2 out of 5 eggsMedia Server Problem

Pros: Wifi works. USB 3.0. You can log into it over the internet.

Cons: I have the latest firmware. Media Server only sees 500gb max of content and shares it to LED SmartTv's/Sony Hulu box. I'm using 3tb Seagate USB3.0 ext hdd. SharePort-horribly organizes files into one list based on videos, pics, music. Doesn't see folders and figure out organizational structures. These are the two reasons why I bought this router.

Other Thoughts: Overall a good router. It is pricey- for such poor media server/ media sharing abilities. I think they should really work out these problems. DLink support Tier 1 and 2 have absolutely no clue how to support their own products. Tier 3 tried to call me once. No follow up calls beyond that. They must not be real concerned with supporting their products or are overwhelmed supporting their products. Buyer be aware of what your expections are and what you really want out of this router. Currently I am buying a usb 3.0 hub and another usb 3.0 external hard drive to try and test multiple drives for this product.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works great with all four of my gaming systems turned on the same time.

Cons: Sometimes the graphical interface can be a little tricky.

Other Thoughts: It got delivered three days ahead of schedule which was awesome.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Speed, ease of set up

Cons: runs a bit warm. needs more status lights

Other Thoughts: I replaced a netgear that would constantly overheat. I also tried a linksys and had to RMA it because I could never connect beyond 65 Mbps. I am now able to connect at 150 at a minimum on all my devices. It does run warm and only gives you one status light which has little value.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat router since the DGL-4500 and DIR-825

Pros: Everyone is going to like and enjoy this router. Very stable and very easy to set up. Gaming is great with XBL and this router. No more strict NAT while using it. Even if turning off QOS it seems to work very nicely with my SB 6180 cable modem. Very fast file xfers using 2.4 and 5Ghz wireless. Connects at 450Mb 2.4Ghz using a Trendnet 2.4Ghz wireless LAN adapter. Very impressed by it. Hasn't been anything this good since the DGL-4500 and the DIR-825. This is going to be a great router for everyone for a while. I hope everyone enjoys it. Good people and support information on the dlink forums.

Cons: No external antenna connections, WIFI or LAN LED Indicators.

Other Thoughts: People fail to understand that most any Wifi router has issues, especially in area with numerous Wifi routers near by on 2.4Ghz. These are using up all the channels and thus people are seeing disconnections from there router as it has to stop and rescan for a different channel. In most cases the router can re-establish a connection, however sometimes it can't due to the channels being used up. As for NAT, that depends on the Host ISP modem. People fail to understand that if the ISP modem has a built in router already, this WILL produce NAT issues. It's preferred to bridge these modems if ISPs and the modems support this. If not, it's recommended to use DMZ on the modem and put the external router into the modems DMZ. ALL routers work well. it's how they are set up and what they are set up with that can dictate how they work for users. This IS a good router. People need to research there needs and product details before buying so they buy what they really need. If people are having prob
