1 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk

Pros: none

Cons: work for about 3 weeks, then it locked itself, could not get it to work, loaded new firmware 104, and nothing, did a reset, connected by Ethernet but not wireless
had to dig out an old Linksy that never failed, got this because of the gigabit and never worked.

Other Thoughts: Buy the cheap stuff, most of the time are better.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate the feedback as we truly value the input and concerns. We are sorry to hear that you encountered problems with the DIR-826L and that it locked up on you. Please contact D-Link technical support at so they can assist you in resolving the issues you are experiencing. In addition, if the warranty period has not expired, you may qualify for a replacement. We thank you for choosing D-Link.

1 out of 5 eggsFirmware version?

Pros: um... read my previous review...

Cons: my previous review got manufacture responded and asked me to update to "the latest firmware (1.03)" My router came with 1.04, do I have to "down grade" it to make it works? I can see that whoever responded to my post may not really know the product issue as well.

Other Thoughts: LOL; I just wait for next gen. AC then grab one not with D-link as well; thank you to offer, but I've to pass it. GL

5 out of 5 eggsGets the Job Done

Pros: Internal and external interface device mgmt, works only as a switch and WAP if needed (i use a commercial router at home and plug into only the LAN port), easy GUI-based device mgmt, very powerful wireless antenna, coexisting dual-band radio effectively gives you 2 WAPs (newer devices get to use the stronger GHz band), true gigabit LAN.
This thing has not given me a single issue, and the wireless works flawlessly even though I live in an apartment complex.

Cons: "True gigabit routing" feature is terrible, turn it off immediately!
"The limitation is that both of SPI and QoS engine will be disabled automatically when True Gigabit Routing Connectivity is enabled."
Why would you willingly kill your firewall AND QoS?

Other Thoughts: I'm a Cisco man (as far as enterprise networking is concerned), but I have always had better luck with D-Link home products.
Remember to update the firmware using the website, not the built in feature.

1 out of 5 eggsOnly good for few months!? WTH

Pros: Good price while I got it on sale.

Cons: Good for only few months, no longer 5GHz connection, automatically disconnect/reconnect the 2.4GHz more than 8 times a day now.... WTH!?

Other Thoughts: I will go for another brand when I upgrade my to AC next step.

Manufacturer Response:

We thank you for your feedback as we really do appreciate and value your input. We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing connection problems with the DIR-826L. 1 out of 5 eggsDied after 15 months

Pros: I purchased this in June 2012 and was very pleased.

Cons: I'd been using it ever since until mid-November 2013 it simply turned off and will not power on. I attempted to call Newegg but their line always puts me in a queue and after 30 minutes I loss patience and hang up. I've tried multiple times. I've sent them emails requesting that someone call me back but they've never returned my call.

Other Thoughts: Other's have have better luck than I have D-Link Support but I've found them to be non-existent. This is the 2nd D-Link product that has failed me in the past couple years (the other arrived defective) and I'll no longer humiliate my self by even attempt to contact their Customer Support. Needless to say, this was my last D-Link purchase ever. For that reason I'd recommend you look at another manufacture. BTW, when this router failed I plugged in a 10 year old retired Linksys router and have been using it since.

2 out of 5 eggsLost 5 GHz band after few months

Pros: Everything was working fine but after about 1/2 year of use the router lost 5 GHz band. Similar to another reviewer's experience here, I can only get weak signal if I am with in like 1-3 feet from the router. Reset the router, updated firmware, changed channel, played with settings, but no go. These D-link router seems to have issues with 5 GHz band. The 2.4 GHz band still works but only time will tell...

Cons: This appears to be common issue with these DIR routers from D-link. People are upgrading firmware, playing with setting, only to find out that the hardware gets faulty after few month of use.

Other Thoughts: Probably my last D-link router unless CS steps in and set things right. I emailed the support but havent received reply so we will see....

1 out of 5 eggsTwo bad ones in 9 months

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Two units went bad in 9 months. Second time c/s service escalated my case and put me on hold for 1 hr, 35 minutes. Do not buy from these people.

1 out of 5 eggsNew Egg Good; D-Link BAD

Pros: Seems to be working OK. There are (for me, critical) options which I have not been able to test -- see below.

Cons: D-Link appearantly has decided to stop providing all customer / tech support. If you go to their web site pages for tech support / customer support, the clickable icons for email support and phone support don't work. The icon for chat also doesn't work, but sends you to a "virtual" tech support. It is unmitigated garbage.

Other Thoughts: I've also tried to reach their support from their main page, but I'm still waiting for a reply.

New Egg did good job of quickly shipping the product to me.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Faster than stock TWC router.

Cons: Set-up is a little involved

Other Thoughts: Will not work if network adapter drivers aren't up to date. XP/VISTA. Have an old VISTA laptop that was connected fine to my old Time Warner router. I wouldn't connect to this one till I updated the network adapter's drivers. My WINDOWS7/WINDOWS8 computers connected fine right away. Also you will have to create a dlink account at set-up.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat when it worked!

Pros: Great Range (When it worked)
Easy to setup
Dual Band

Cons: After about 5 months, it suddenly drops all 5Ghz communications, I reboot the device, and still cant find a signal, only when I bring my laptop, phone, and tablets within 3 feet of the device do I get a weak signal. Factory resetting the device didn't help.
I emailed a detailed explanation to DLINK support and asked for a RMA number only to be told to contact the help desk and they will talk me thru some diagnostics.
