2 out of 5 eggsRouter no longer working - wired and wireless clients dropped

Pros: Easy setup and familiar DLink interface

Cons: Doesn't support loopback, and stopped working.

Took a chance and purchased this relatively new device in December of 2012. Struggled for a while with it trying to verify my port forwards were working by using loopback, but finally learned that the device doesn't support it. After settling that this feature wasn't on this device (but was on my DIR-655) I've been using it for about 6 months. Last week or two family has been complaining about "no internet" or "can't print" from various PCs. Originally thought it was ISP problem but they came and shored up the outside connections. Computer internet/printing/lan problems still continued and we noticed that the router indicators would extinguish (globe) or go amber (power) when this occurred. Finally verified it wasn't the ISP or cable modem, as bypassing the router allowed perfect internet access to the one direct connected PC. Hooked up my old DIR-655 (glad I saved it) and the network is working fine again.

Other Thoughts: Unfortunately missed out on RMA period, working to pursue warranty coverage from dlink.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Fast gigabit wired transfers, Solid performance, I don't have the reboot issues others described. Wireless AC for when more devices are available.

Cons: My cordless phone is 5ghz which interferes with the 5ghz wireless on the AP causes random disconnects. Probably the same issue others complained of but don't realize why. I just disabled the 5ghz and use 2.4 ghz speed is same and it seems to give me better range anyway.

Other Thoughts: I recommend to set up the router just enough with a wired connection to perform the firmware update. There's not much you can buy these days that you don't have to do an update to for it to work right. I have this router set up behind another router from at&t and it auto configured itself behind that router itself and I had internet access immediately, my old router it took quite a bit of manual configuration to get working. Port forwarding works great, I have several apps forwarding ports through both routers to my internal network and I have no issues. Not sure what others could be complaining of in regards to this. All in all this router has been great from day 1 for me. When the day comes that I need to use the 5ghz band for wireless AC when more devices support it I will have to upgrade my cordless phone. Other than that this router is flawless and I can't fault d-link for the interference with my phone. I would recommend this router.

3 out of 5 eggsFunctional but needs improvement

Pros: familiar d-link interface - good options/features (didn't use cloud features so cannot elaborate)

Cons: Owned for 5 months, no change to configuration in the last 3 months and has been solid but suddenly doesn't want to stay up, appears to be something on the wireless side causing the router to loose connectivity and reboot. Wireless will stay up for 5 minutes before becoming unresponsive to requests. wireless clients can connect but cannot get on the internet after becomes responsive. Wired connections worked just fine. Note issue appears regardless of d-link router plugged in as have same issue in dir-657, dhp-1320 so believe issue to be a particular wireless client or other wireless router in area but since have multiple clients (15 or so) have not tracked down if offending client is on my network but even if a client is having issues with connecting, it should not take down router to service all other clients. Unable to use the shareport in this version as drive not detected for my 6TB ntfs usb (worked in dir-655 perfect) and dhp-1320 (limitted as would cause lockup of router if transferring large files). Over all is a fair router but not worth the price for the AC features when wireless is the only upgrade and wireless won't stay up.

2 out of 5 eggsShould Have listened

Pros: Powerful. I purchased this to replace a old Lynksys that was given to me used twelve years ago. They only problem with the Lynk was it was not powerful enough to stream media to a tv on the other side of the house. The 5700 accomplished that. BUT!!

Cons: The unit cannot make it thru three consecutive days without being re-set or re-booted. This only effects the wifi capabilities LAN is stable. I have read other reviews complaining about this so I should have heeded. I will request an R.M.A. and do further research.

Other Thoughts: I was hoping this would workout since it is kinda plain looking meaning not obvious and two shelves below it is a D-Link switch that works great.

1 out of 5 eggsWasted a lot of my precious time

Pros: Fast easy setup.

Cons: will not do port forwarding. Spent $33 with "advanced" service. The rep tried for over an hour to fix. No luck. So, I can't do Remote desktop. Also DLink website is impossible and firmware upgrade is a nightmare

4 out of 5 eggsNo Problems

Pros: The setup wizard worked correct as soon as i hooked it up. The router works great without dropping signal. Dlink cloud features also work ez enough if you like that sort of thing.

Cons: setting up my dlink accnt was a slight hastle from within the routers interface. using the usb for storeage device was a pain in the a**. the device would dissapear from the network after reboot, after looking around found a workaround by maping network drive as \\192.168.0.1 and I could access my files np.

Other Thoughts: First thing to do is update the firmware then it should work fine.

1 out of 5 eggsRouter fears realized.

Pros: Easy to open packaging. First 8 set-up steps were straight forward.

Cons: Didn't properly configure. The mydlink.com site would not recognize my device. Called customer service and then the D-link nighmare began. Waited for over an hour and a half (109 minutes), listening to the same message loop. First customer support person said he couldn't help and transferred me. After another hour wait I decided to abandon. This is the reason people hate these companies. I'd suggest that you buy something else with better quality and support. What a major let down!

Other Thoughts: Save yourself a nighmare tech event and just buy something else that's better.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works once I got done setting everything up and reconnecting all my devices I did notice a improvement on some of my wireless stuff as well as the range. I also upgraded the firmware to the latest version before configure the router. I am upgrading from a linksys e3000 that started giving me odd problems

Cons: None yet will update if anything happens

Other Thoughts: I have had no problems with the router yet. I have 2 ipads 1 iphone a xbox 360 a ps3 3 computers 1 laptop and 1 server set to static ip everything shows up under status lan computers including my server(windows 2008 r2) that has a static IP and it shows the static ip that I set it to

1 out of 5 eggsMy Anger builds...gonna rage smash this router!

Pros: I guess there would be more "pros" if the device would set up properly but for now I will defer to the product description for what it potentially could do. Slight increase in media streaming over DIR-655.

Cons: Hope and pray you do not need to call technical assistance because like many other companies they are striving to be the worst. I have been waiting and randomly transferred for over 2.5 hours now (typing here while on hold). FYI- For this device you have to call 1-877-453-5465 ext: 3474 because the regular "tech support" people will just transfer you (or hang up on you in most cases). See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: I have upgraded (or so I thought) from a DIR-655 that has been doing great for several years now. I have a home network with 15+ devices to include a Synology server.
I was able to do the basic set up and get all the devices online, set up port forwarding for the server and do other small set up tasks. My problems however showed up when I tried to set up static IP's. Even though under: Status>Device Info>LAN Computers my server shows up as connected when I go to set a static IP the server is not an option under the drop down menu. I cannot manually put in the device's information because I get an "invalid host name" error. Also, under: Tools>Dynamic DNS you only have four options to choose from and if you have DDNS and you do not currently use one of those four options you cannot enter anything else in. Thankfully I can access my services on my server without it being entered so not a big deal it is just my DIR-655 had my DDNS provider (no-ip.org) as an option.
In my opinion this new technology is just too new and D-Link rushed this out and it needs LOTS of work. Don't even bother setting up the "MyDlink" as your intelligence will be insulted and you will have wasted your time setting something up that provides absolutely no function or help.
Update: Total time on hold at the completion of this review= 3 hours and 15 minutes and counting.

3 out of 5 eggsDefinietly still got some kinks

Pros: Lots of new features. Support of 802.11ac.

Cons: No activity or link lights for physical connections. Buggy config when using the second device as a Bridge.

No real NICs for 802.11ac yet.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these to use one as an wireless bridge. I ended up spending about an hour on the phone with their consulting services to find that the wireless bridge config/aspect doesn't support special characters in the pre-share key and that you cannot change the default network off of 192.168.0.x or the bridge will not give out DHCP and you will have to statically assign IPs to all devices that connect to it.

Once setup it does give good transfer speeds. But this product definitely needs some further work.

Overall if you are trying to prep this might be the router for you and are ok with spending the time on it. Otherwise I would caution to wait.
