4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well But Not Perfect

Pros: no handshake issues with my LINKSYS09868 in 5gh AC only mode. Windows registers a 400 Mbps connection, which is better than I can manage on my wireless N cards (I don't think a device rated at 150 ever registers with that ceiling; they top out between 65Mbps and 72Mbps).

Very stable connection. Works every time (win 8.1), but I'm using the USB 2.0 socket on my laptop.

Cons: bulky. you almost have to use the extension cord/adapter just because of the surface area that the device itself occupies at the USB port. not ideal for laptops...but not a deal breaker either.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because it was easily the least expensive AC-compatible adapter available at the time, and I wanted to test the new router, but non of my devices were AC-ready.

the software/connection manager works well with Win8's native wireless controls & monitoring system. I can run things through the DLink software, and the Win8 stuff accurately reflects what I've done. The DLink software tells me more information in a more meaningful way about the wireless condition in the area (SSDs, Bands, Channels). So that makes manually selecting a clean channel easier without having to rely on a dedicated device/scanner.

1 out of 5 eggsHuge disapointment

Pros: AC Speeds, on a friendly USB form factor, when it works.

Cons: Where should i start, let see, I open the box, and the first thing i notice is that the USB Expansion cradle was missing, then when I install the drivers for the AC USB adapter right away it started giving me hell, it would connect and then disconnect, it seem to only be stable when using 802.11 N wireless network, when i tried to use 802.11 AC it would start malfunctioning, I notice that when using AC the USB stick would get really hot, however when using 802.11 N it would only get warm, as a computer professional I can say that D-link let me down on this one, I have bought D-link products before, and none had failed me like this one until now, what a disappointment.

Other Thoughts: D-link tends to make reliable networking products but I feel that they might be dropping the ball, on this one, what a disappointment.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: None

Cons: This adapter is slow, and will not run at all in USB 3.0 port, keeps losing connection . Tried unit in usb 2.0 port and it works just ok but slow, My N adapter blows the socks off this. Save your money and get a Linksys, I bought one and is far better than this.

Other Thoughts: I called tech support they were unable to help me, we tried reinstalling the drivers with no help. My usb ports are working fine, I tried other usb 3.0 devices and they worked fine. D-link wanted me to try this in another computer. but I dont have another computer with usb 3.0.

3 out of 5 eggsStability Issues

Pros: Decent price, works well on one PC

Cons: I could not get it to work reliably on another PC either in Win 7 or Win8.1 (both x64). Would cutout and then not find any WiFi networks. Tried it on another slower PC in house and it works well in both Win7 and Win8.1 (both x64).

Other Thoughts: Wish it worked on the 1st PC.

Manufacturer Response:

We thank you for your feedback as we really do appreciate and value your input. We will pass on the information you provided to our Product Management team. Please note that the 10/100 Fast Ethernet LAN and WAN ports are used to give the user high-speed wired connectivity and speedy Internet access. Regarding the issue of Mydlink app, currently the Windows 8 app version of Internet Explorer is not supported at this time. Try using Google Chrome (20 and higher) or Firefox (12 and higher). In the future, if you run into any problems, please do not hesitate to contact D-Link technical support at www.support.dlink.com. We thank you for choosing D-Link.

5 out of 5 eggsMine is USB 3.0!!!

Pros: Works very fast. I didn't think it was USB 3.0, and I thought it would have an extension cord. No extension, but it is USB 3.0!!! WOW!

Cons: It's wide so it may block neighboring USB ports.

Other Thoughts: The housing should be narrower, it blocks too much space, but this thing is FAST! Sometimes it takes a minute to connect, but once it connects, it stays connected.

4 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Works really well compared to my other outdated adapter that maxed out at 54 Mbps.

Cons: Will randomly disconnect every so often. Not looking forward to that in the middle of a game.
Did not come with the USB extension. My old adapter was also D-Link so I already had one. Not sure if just my order or everyone else too.

Other Thoughts: Overall it is over double the speed of my old adapter which is good

5 out of 5 eggsOverall a good buy

Pros: Works as intended. I never feel like my connection should be faster whether I'm downloading, web browsing, or gaming(Battlefield 4's latency is always around 45ms or better for example, and no lag).

Cons: The item is so thick that it covered the usb port next to it, which I need to use. I got around it by popping the plastic shell off with a flat head screw driver. I could have also used the dock that comes with it but that's just clutter I didn't want.

Other Thoughts: My router is in the basement, in an adjacent corner below my room. Other's have been mentioning foreign language only instructions, but mine had English.

1 out of 5 eggsReadability

Pros: USB WiFi adapter seem to fail freqently, so I bought these as backups. They will work with older WiFi standards (i.e.B & G WiFi) + upcoming standards( AC Wifi).

Cons: Instructions are all in Chinese.

Other Thoughts: Heaven help me when another USB WiFi adapter fails, since I don't read or speak Chinese and the instructions are in Chinese. I thought Newegg was an American company. Selling products with Chinese instructions?

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: None

Cons: It took three weeks to arrive. The top level of the disk menu is only in Korean. It won't find any routers after a reboot. It keeps giving popups saying to connect it in a USB3 port when it already is.

Other Thoughts: My router is a Netgear Nighthawk and it works with every other adapter/device in my house. I've gone back to my old N adapter and it works fine. The is the first D-Link product I've bought in quite a while and probably the last.
