2 out of 5 eggsWorks with Windows7, does not support Linux kernels above 2.6x.

Pros: It worked on my wife's Windows7 computer, but it was not exactly straightforward to install. The directions are only an approximation of what you have to do to get it to work.

Cons: Neither D-Link, nor Realtek (the wifi chip maker) are supporting Linux kernels above 2.6x. You have to compile the driver, but the install script fails if you have a 3.x or 4.x kernel, and it doesn't look like either company is interested in supporting Linux.

Other Thoughts: Not likely to recommend this to anyone who is not computer literate in Windows. Unlikely to recommend to a Linux user.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: 1.) it works most of the time.
2.) it is fast for my needs.

Cons: 1.) marked of one egg because I have had to pull it out of the usb port and plug it back in a few times to get it to work properly again.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small, convient, Fast.
126.2/mbs in 1800 sq/ft Townhouse - opposite ends.

Asus RT68-u Router

Cons: Runs warm.

Other Thoughts: I've had this for atleast 3 months now, works fine. I just unplug it when I'm not using it. Everyone who claims they burn out must have never removed them. They have no heatsink, fan or any way to cool themselves so they are obviously going to burn out faster.

2 out of 5 eggsNot worth the upgrade

Pros: Small

Cons: Didnt work in one of my ASUS laptop USB ports, but it would in others. Must use in the USB port it was installed in, not others. Software takes over the WIndows Wifi software. Wasn't much faster in 2.4n than my laptop's builtin wifi.

Other Thoughts: I was just too slow for the return policy!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works great on 2.4GHz and 5GHz band on my home network and i get near max speeds.

Cons: I bought this adapter to use the 5GHz band at work. The network at work uses WPA2-Enterprise but when i try to connect through windows it always says i can't connect on either 2.4GHz or 5GHz band. If i try to connect through the D-Link connection manager it tells me that i have to add the network first. When i go to add the connection manually though i can add the network but i cannot configure any of the enterprise settings.

Other Thoughts: I am using Windows 8.1 and have tried upgrading and downgrading the drivers with no success. This may just be an issue with the dongle or a problem with the drivers and 8.1

2 out of 5 eggsIt does what it's supposed too

Pros: It is fast, when it connects.

Cons: This is one of those devices that wants to take over your computer. To get this device to work you have to install software that is going to take over your computer's wireless management and does a VERY poor job of it.

Hey, I'm the first to throw Microsoft software out the window when something better comes along - this isn't it. The software is clunky and most of the time it wont remember networks. Windows wireless management works, it's transparent and once a network is configured you just forget about it and Windows connects when you're in range. Which part of that is not good enough for D-Link?

Other Thoughts: Like I said, I'm the first to replace inferior Microsoft software but if it's works, like Microsoft's wireless management, why replace it with software that doesn't? Crazy!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works a lot better than I expected. The performance/stability is amazing compared to the built-in wifi or other external wifi cards I've used in the past. Additionally, it also has a blinking LED to indicate activity (one nice feature I did not expect.)

Cons: None yet..
