1 out of 5 eggscover short distance and loss speed

This review is from: D-Link DHP-209AV PowerLine AV200 Mini Adapter Starter Kit, Up to 200Mbps

Pros: easy to install

Cons: It only covers very short distance. Unless two are very close together, it will not work. I can't even get it to work upstairs in my house. Loss of internet speed (lose 60-70%) is another big drawback.

Other Thoughts: I should have skipped this one.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate the feedback and we are sorry to hear that you are encountering issues with the product. For best results please make sure to do the following

1) Use in a regular wall outlet without any other product plugged into the same outlet. Connecting this product to a power strip or a surge protector may adversely affect the performance of this product.

2) Avoid using the PowerLine AV Network in an electrical outlet that is located near an appliance that uses a lot of power such as a washer, dryer, refrigerator, microwave, hair dryer, or air conditioning system.

3)To verify connectivity or if you are having connection problems, plug the adapters in the same room to verify whether your home’s electrical
wiring is contributing to the issue. The adapters’ PowerLine LED indicators will illuminate if the connection is established.

If you continue to experience issues feel free to contact our technical support team for assistance by calling the toll free number 1-877-453-5465. Thank you for being a D-Link customer.

3 out of 5 eggsSlow

This review is from: D-Link DHP-209AV PowerLine AV200 Mini Adapter Starter Kit, Up to 200Mbps

Pros: Easy to install. almost 0 config.
Suitable for some old device with only LAN port like AV receiver, smart TV, Game console, etc.

Cons: It's much slower than my expect. It uses 10Mbps LAN connection, but the actually speed is less than 5Mbps and with a lot of package lost. any 802.11n WLAN can easily beat it even in poor signal area

Manufacturer Response:

We want to thank you for the feedback as we really do appreciate the comments and input. We are sorry to hear that the DHP-209AV is giving you slower speeds than expected. Please make sure that the product is plugged into a wall outlet without anything else connected to the same outlet. In addition, avoid using the PowerLine AV Network in an electrical outlet that is located near an appliance that uses a lot of power such as a washer, dryer, refrigerator, microwave, hair dryer, or air conditioning system. If you continue to experience slow speeds please contact D-Link technical support at www.support.dlink.com for further assistance. In most cases an agent will be able to diagnose the issue and guide you through the solution process. We thank you for choosing D-Link.

5 out of 5 eggsWi-fi coverage solved

This review is from: D-Link DHP-209AV PowerLine AV200 Mini Adapter Starter Kit, Up to 200Mbps

Pros: Relatively inexpensive, fast delivery, and quick/easy setup. They worked flawlessly right out of the box. I get the maximum throughput my ISP provides (up to 15 megs). Works well even when the PowerLine LED is red (lowest link rate) - no more NetFlix buffering.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Although my router is less than 40 feet away, I still had trouble getting a reliable Wi-Fi signal to my living room. I tried installing a wireless repeater, changing channels, using directional antennas, etc. I considered buying a more powerful router but I wasn't sure that
it would solve my problem. These units were on sale at Newegg so I thought it was worth trying. I am using a second router set as a wired repeater. It is located in my living room and connected directly to the second adapter. Although I seriously doubt that throughput comes anywhere near 200 megs, it serves my purpose well.

5 out of 5 eggsWireless what?

This review is from: D-Link DHP-209AV PowerLine AV200 Mini Adapter Starter Kit, Up to 200Mbps

Pros: The best and least expensive way to connect computers to the internet. I've purchased 3 sets now, and won't go back to wireless N

Cons: None... (they weren't free?)

Other Thoughts: I build computers for a hobbie. I have 2-i7's, 1-core 2 quad, 1-core 2 duo, 1 AMD and 3 laptops. In the past, these were all connected (but one) to wireless N adapters for internet access. I first read about using the electrical grid in your home for internet access a few years back, but had already purchased all my wireless adapters. My kids kept screaming to me about them not able to watch youtube or play games online, so I decided to give them a try. Now, all my computers are running on them. The speeds are great, but what seems to be the best is the consistency. With wireless, signal strength can change, but these powerline adapters, they are pretty constant. I'd recommend them to anyone. You've got to try them!!!!
