4 out of 5 eggsPretty decent

Pros: Simultaneous dual band support. Small, extremely easy to setup. Does the job as long as you place it within a moderate signal area to begin with.

Cons: Very limited firmware UI controls for common performance and security customization to advanced users. For example, you cannot set WPA2/AES only, you cannot set 802.11n only.

Other Thoughts: Placement is very important, you have to put this where you still are getting a decent signal for it to work. Do not put it on the frontier of your signal strength. Also be aware that while the unit has dual bands on the front end, on the back end to the router is only one band connected. So, unless you share SSIDs, you may have 5Ghz to your device and 2.4Ghz on the back end to your router. Also be aware that you cannot do MAC filtering in your router with the devices that connect to the DAP-1520 because it does not pass their addresses thru but rather only its own.

2 out of 5 eggssame your money for another wireless router

Pros: Setup is some what easy
Nice esthetics

Cons: Does not support mac address filter.
Drops signal every night around the same time and have to restart them.
Download speed is not the as fast when on the extender.
Not worth the trouble better of purchasing a 2nd wireless router

Other Thoughts: I will be returning to new egg for another device. D-Link please feel free to contract me.

1 out of 5 eggsThis thing stinks

Pros: can't think of any

Cons: Can't even get it to factory reset. Need to change some setting to be compatible with new router. Can't access the web menu, WPS won't connect, and now, I can't send it back to newegg because i've had it more than 30 days.

Manufacturer Response:

D-Link wants to thank you for the feedback and we are highly sorry that you are encountering issues with the product. Please note that warranty for the hardware of this product is one year. If you are still within this time period, we would highly suggest that you contact our technical support team by calling 1-877-453-5465. An agent will be glad to help you resolve your issue. We hope to restore your faith in D-Link and look forward to hearing from you soon.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as Advertised

Pros: I've had this up and running for less than 24 hours, but so far everything works as advertised. The WPS setup did not work with my FiOS router, so I had to do a manual setup, which was very easy to do from my phone. The device creates 2 new networks to re-broadcast your signal (one 2.4GHz and one 5GHz). I only got the device to extend the WiFi for my phones and tablets, and so far the speeds on the 5GHz are quite good.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I had to download an app for my android devices that allows them to automatically switch to the better signal strength. So far I am using the "Best WiFi" app, and it flawlessly switches between the router and the extender depending on where I am in the house.

Manufacturer Response:

We want to thank you for the feedback as we greatly appreciate the input and are happy to hear that you are satisfied with your purchase.

3 out of 5 eggsBuggy Firmware=Worthless Product

Pros: The extender is compact and elegant looking. It integrates well into a variety of environments. The N/AC dual-band capability is a great feature.

Cons: The firmware is so full of bugs I couldn't use the products. After a few hours of trial and error and the devices refusing firmware updates I was able to bring the two I bought online. They periodically failed though and caused other network problems including DHCP interference on the wired network. RMA'd them both.

Other Thoughts: The hardware component of the product is very good! These extenders have a lot of potential, and future updates that work the bugs out of the firmware could make this a five-star product. Spank your software engineers D-Link. A product is only as good as its weakest component. The V1.02 firmware makes great hardware and potential nothing more than headache inducing garbage.

Manufacturer Response:

We want to thank you for the feedback as we greatly appreciate the input and we are sorry to hear that you have returned the product. As we strive to create the best products on the market, we will pass on the information you have provided to our Product Management team for consideration. We thank you for choosing D-Link and again, we are sorry for the problems you experienced.
