5 out of 5 eggsGreat Switch

Pros: Works great!

Cons: Runs a little warm, but not hot.

Other Thoughts: I have it, the router and cable modem in a closet with the rest of the house wired. Runs like a champ, though the router has been a touch flakey; since I have all 3 devices on the same easy to get to power strip, I just power cycle the strip. This means I have been power cycling the switch every couple of months, too.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking great with decent traffic

Pros: I have installed two of these for one of my clients who needed gigabit support for backing up their servers in another part of the building. One is in IDF3 and the other is in our MDF hosting the full network. They run great while hosting about 30 computers, 8 servers, 6Mbs internet and firewall, 6 printers, and soon to be VoIP. I personally only purchase SMC and have had great luck with my first switch still working since 2005. This switch can definitely handle the traffic and work well.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Unit does not have fans for cooling which makes it great for noise issues. The enclosure is a heatsink for all components and works well to keep unit cool to touch. Absolutely not resonating sound.

1 out of 5 eggssmcgs16 works for a short while

Pros: I worked great until the warranty ran out. Then it died with the warranty.

Cons: I tried to talk with the SMC customer service rep by phone. After two tries of leaving phone messages, someone returned my call. She said that she will have a technical rep call me. So, who was she and why did she call me instead of a technical rep? After one week of waiting for the technical rep's call, I have given up.

Other Thoughts: If the SMC warranty is not worth anything, then I might as well buy a no-name-brand switch.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks GREAT!

Pros: Reliable, Fast, Easy.

Cons: Does get a tad warm running full load eg: 16 servers running network backups.

Other Thoughts: Running 4 of these in racks for internal backup networks. They are awesome and definitely reliable.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome switch

Pros: Fast - Reliable - Rackmountable

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: We bought 2 of these switches for internal rack backup and server communication on secondary NICS. So far a year of abuse and they rock - 10000's of terabytes of transfer across them and no ports going bad or anything for that matter.

I can't tell if they run hot or not because they are in a climate controlled environment....but they don't seem hot to the touch ever.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: The switch is mounted under the stairs in my home. I am using it with a TRENDnet patch panel (newegg item N82E16831101004) and cat6 cabling. So far I only have five devices plugged in, but have had no issues whatsoever with the product.

It is completely silent. When I'm around it, I have to look at the led status lights to make sure it's still on.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend this to anyone looking for an unmanaged gigabit switch.

3 out of 5 eggsNot holding up

Pros: Quiet, no external power converter, rack mountable

Cons: Ports dying

Other Thoughts: Have had this switch for about 18months on a heavily used home network. So far have lost 3 ports. They seem to be dying every so often. Lost the first one almost right out of the box and just lost the 3rd one today. Not sure I could recommend this switch. Also note that you need to register with SMC to get the full warrantee

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME!

Pros: Awesome switch, GB, rack or wall mountable, solid

Cons: Only issue is it gets hot

Other Thoughts: This is a great switch and we bought this from NE over a year ago. I just got another brand small switch today that I would never buy again. I think I am going to stick with SMC.
