5 out of 5 eggsSMC rocks

Pros: Coverage is excellent (3 bedroom house with deck and porch). All devices connect without problems (PC laptop, Apple laptop, wireless USB stick, Roku box, and Wii). Very reliable -- it was worth every penny.

Cons: Antenna in the back are not detachable. You cannot unscrew them and replace with higher gain ones. This is not a big deal since coverage is so good.

Other Thoughts: Only problem I had was with an 802.11b mini-SD card that had trouble authenticating. If you have a big mix of devices, you may have to fiddle with the settings to find the lowest common denominator with respect to WPA/WPA2 and 802.11 b/g/n. I run 802.11g with WPA2 PSK and everything is happy.

2 out of 5 eggsNot up to speed

Pros: Very complete web interface. Works well for wired connections.

Cons: The N draft does not seem to work with any Draft N devices. Max speed I get is 54. Range is less than my old Linksys G router. One old Dell Laptop will not connect at all. An older Mac notebook will only connect for awhile and then need to bne renewed. Updating firmware has no effect. My droid connects but the connection is unreliable.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat all around piece of hardware

Pros: Wireless n capability, Wireless\ethernet bridge, 10\100 Ethernet, great for getting wired access from a wireless network at up to 100MB (Ethernet). The price is also a great selling point. I used it to connect a television to a Belkin wireless N router. I also tested it using computer access and the results were pleasing it also has an easy setup for someone who knows. For the newbie’s try reading the instructions carefully.

Cons: Most of the cons I see are built in; meaning you are using a technology that is not up to par with today’s wired connections. This device and all other wireless devices proclaim 25 - 300 MB wireless transfer. It is true in optimal conditions but almost never are these devices used in optimal conditions. All because it is capable of 300MB does not mean you will ever achieve that in a home environment unless the device is placed no more that 15-20 feet with line-of-site. Thus showing how a 100MB connection is sufficient.

Other Thoughts: Once the connection is made it seems to hold the connection to the router. It seems to work with the popular routers in the market. It was easy to configure and connect to Linksys, Belkin and Netgear brand routers, although your router model may be the exception. Great device, I like it!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Router!!!

Pros: I have excellent signal in every room and the router is in the middle of the house. I was able to connect right out of the box. My Ipod Touch connects over 100 feet away!

Cons: none I can think of...

Other Thoughts: All of the money I spent on previous routers and wireless junk. I wish I would have found this first!

2 out of 5 eggsWorks fine but speed not great

Pros: I had this for over a year. I've been using it with a Trendnet Wireless-N router. It was easy to hookup and seemed work work well.

Cons: SMC support is pretty bad. I called them because the speed wasn't up to where I expected it. They pretty much said "That's the way it is". A few weeks ago I got a different Wireless-N client and compared speeds using iPerf. SMC was around 37Mb. Other Client was around 70Mb Throughput.

1 out of 5 eggsWhat's the point???

Pros: None.

Cons: It only has 10/100 ports!!! Why support N-speed devices at 300Mbps if you can only communicate with a device at 100Mbps???

Other Thoughts: Feel free to add a 10/100/1000 port to it.

5 out of 5 eggsSMCWEB-N

Pros: Great features. Config was easy. Connected to Linksys Wireless router via wireless easily using WEP for encryption. WPA is available, but would not connect to Linksys if WPA was used for encryption. Easily connects to Linksy if no encryption is used, also. Same problem as earlier model SMC WAPs. Connected a PC and network printer via patch cable to the SMCWEB-N and both have network and Internet access. This product has been working flawlessly for 6 months now. I have since purchased another for use a different location.

Cons: Cannot connect to wireless router via wireless using WPA encryption.

Other Thoughts: Price is a bit high. Great product, though.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: When I purchased the SMCWeb-N, it was the only remotely affordable 802.11n bridge on the market. As such, it has performed excellently.

It is very nice to only have to connect the bridge to the wireless network, and then just plug your 4 Ethernet devices up to this thing and go.

Nice interface.

It picks up the signal wonderfully through 3 walls and a floor, I usually have anywhere from 20-50% signal strength, my cable connection is not hampered at all (<800Mbps). This is even with the wireless broadcasting from the router in 802.11g.

Cons: Needs a reboot after every settings change.

5 out of 5 eggsNumber 7 a month old now

Pros: I have installed 2 in my home 3 at a friends home and 2 at a student center. All are working fine.

Cons: I understand that with encrypted wireless you only get about half the rated bandwidth. The other half is used in managing the connection and the encryption. Thus a 100mb wired connection fits. BUT being SMC did add the nice switch I’d like to see them at 1000mb speed.

Other Thoughts: I really suggest separating routing and wireless. I know there are a lot of them on the market but you get a lot of expandability and easy of setup when you have then as separate components.

3 out of 5 eggsPoor design

Pros: irrelevant. didn't even open the box.

Cons: Can someone please tell me the purpose of a 300Mbps wireless connection if it automatically dumbs down the connection to 100Mbps right off the bat due to the lack of a gigabit lan port? Instead of improving my wireless LAN speed almost 6 fold over wireless G, I don't even double it due to these 100Mbps LAN ports.

Other Thoughts: I do admit to poor research before purchasing, but this is an absolutely horrible design decision. I didn't even open the box so I can't vouch for functionality.
