Intended for the home office, this dedicated print server allows you to hook up one USB 1.1/2.0 printer and operate at 10/100 Mbps on your network. It even allows you to print across the Internet! As the manufacturer points out, why put up with a fax when you can get the original?

Versatile, this server works with multiple operating systems and with multiple network protocols. Because it is dedicated to just one printer, it has a very small "footprint", always a plus in any office.

So, if you only have one printer and more than one computer, don't buy more printers, share the printer on your net and save money and space.

  • newegg USB 2.0 Port With the IOGEAR GPSU21's USB 2.0 port, share a USB multi-Functional printer with everyone on your network and enjoy fast data transfer speeds.
  • newegg Built-in Web Management With the built-in web management feature, configure, monitor and reset the print server via a web browser.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked fine for two months

Pros: Small, low power, inexpensive, looked like just what I needed. Worked with Windows 7, XP, Macintosh.

Cons: Only worked for two months then no amount of resetting or fiddling or power cycling would help. Even the bundled software could not find it. Software package is several years old and a bit of a pain. Some configuration via Windows was still required to get printer properties and other parameters right.

Other Thoughts: Not USB powered, but I knew that going into the purchase. I moved my combo router/backup device upstairs and now share the printer via its USB connection. (Was easier to configure, too.)

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. We recommend using the software from the IOGEAR website. This is listed under the GPSU21. Please email us with a phone number to contact you at support@iogear.com. We will be more than happy to contact you with quality service and process an RMA. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks, but needs reset sometimes

Pros: In general, it works as expected. I configured via IP not the disk - no idea what's on the disk and don't care to find out. Automatic driver detection for the printer on the other end hasn't been reliable - but once you load the driver it works fine and I haven't had to mess with it again.

Epson Photo RX620 ink meters and such work (in XP, haven't tried in other OS's) through this print server, I was somewhat surprised by this.

Regularly reconnects itself after router power cycles, through a few different routers (I've had some ISP/modem issues, tried some different routers while troubleshooting that, this print server didn't flinch - which was a nice bonus)

Really small, I have it under a desk and the plugs have never gotten knocked out or anything because it sits right against the wall like a power strip.

Cons: This will need power cycled from time to time (I would say 4-6wks on average). After it is power cycled it is back up in less than 15 seconds, so not really a big deal... Just be aware that this is not a 'plug it and forget it' device.

DO NOT buy this if you plan to install it in an unreachable area or in an environment where getting a nearby user to power cycle it regularly is not a realistic option.

Other Thoughts: Newegg has always been great with service & delivery times (yeah, this has nothing to do with the print server)

3 out of 5 eggsCompatibility Issues

Pros: Quick setup and small size are a plus.
Included in my box was a euro power adapter and a decent-length network cable.

Cons: This print server wasn't compatible with my HP LaserJet P1006.
I couldn't load the configuration page inside of Chrome v18, but it worked alright in Firefox and Explorer.

Other Thoughts: I'll be able to use it on my other printer (which the compatibility list claims is supported), so at least it wasn't a complete waste of money.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The GPSU21 has not been tested with Chrome so this will be forwarded to the product manager for review. The HP LaserJet P1006 is not listed on the compatibility list so we cannot guarantee operation with the GPSU21. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work with WINDOWS 7

Pros: Dont of any...If it cant work with Microsofts latest OS, this shouldnt even be sold.

Cons: Hopefully this sends a message to IOGEAR that Windows 7 has been out for the past 3yrs, and to offer support for it

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The product should not behave as you described. The GPSU21 is Windows 7 compatible and has been tested with both 32 and 64 bit versions. Attached below is a link to the Windows 7 driver. http://www.iogear.com/support/dm/driver/GPSU21#display. Please contact our customer service at email: support@iogear.com and let us know in more detail on when and how you’re having this experience. We strive to ensure our customers are serviced with a properly working unit to exceed your satisfaction. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very Small. Doesn't heat up too much. Instead of using the install CD, I installed the printer with TCP/IP Port. Took 5 minutes to get three computers networked. Love it

Cons: None

2 out of 5 eggsWaste of time

Pros: Worked for a few days with my HP LaserJet 1018 after setting up. I've reserved the IP and connected directly to Netgear router.

Cons: Stops working unless set up again. I've tried mfg comments regarding resetting, which doesn't help. Print server log says printer online and ready; then says pages are printed, but they aren't. I have to cable-connect, then print one page, then all is good for a couple days until prob repeats.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. The problem you are describing could be related to a print driver issue with the operating system on your computer. The LaserJet 1018 is not listed on the printer compatibility list so it has not been tested with the GPSU21. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy set-up, works great!

Pros: I got 3 Windows 7 computers printing in less than 15 minutes. The printer I networked is an HP OfficeJet J4550.

After reading several reviews I thought I would give it a shot. I didn't use the disk that came with the device, or follow the manual. I simply plugged my USB printer into the device and connected it to my nework via the included ethernet cable. Then, after plugging it in to the power strip, I went into my router's configuration through my web browser to see what address it was assigned. I just used the dynamic address given, but I may assign a static one later. After getting the address, I went to 'devices and printers' in Windows and selected 'add a printer', and then 'add network printer'. Next, I added the printer manually via TCP/IP and typed in the address that my router assigned to the printer, and selected my printer from a list (the drivers for the printer were already installed on the computers, so no need for me to install them again). Test page printed

Cons: No cons for me. It was a simple and easy set-up. Had I not read other reviews, or set up a print server prior to this, I probably would have have had a difficult time and had to call tech support.

Other Thoughts: To set up device without assistance, you will have to have a basic understanding of networks. It helps to read other reviews.

3 out of 5 eggsCheck the compatibility!

Pros: Sure it works fine with correct printer..

Cons: Wasted 2 hours of my life trying to set up with a printer not on the compatibility list. I'm sure it works great, but I gave it a shot. Went ahead and called IO Gear tech support... the rep was a real d-bag.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked As Expected

Pros: easy setup, just plugged in the usb from the printer, connected the network cable to my router, and plugged in the power supply. I checked for the IP of the print server to verify it was indeed recognized and given an IP and sure enough, it was there. The test page printed out. Also it's very easy to add to other computers in the house. This was tested on Windows 7 x64 and Windows XP x86. Looking to see if it works well with MAC OS.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: You need to make sure you have your driver for the printer handy on a Flash Drive. The server does not hold the driver on its system. If your OS does not already carry the driver, you need to install it on there before trying to print during the "Find a Networked Printer" process.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Set a static ip via web browser and set up the printers on all of my pc's without the use of IOGEAR software using all windows 7 OS's and an old hp laserjet 1320. Been solid so far

Supports duplex printing to save paper.
No need for IO gear software in each pc
4 computers installed in less then 15 mins total

Cons: Tried software first, did not find the print server. I had to use my router to find the ip address that got leased to it and set up from there. Lost an egg because of that.

Other Thoughts: It would be nice for the software to work properly and find the print server for me. If I was a novice user I probably would have returned it or at least had to deal with technical support.
