Intended for the home office, this dedicated print server allows you to hook up one USB 1.1/2.0 printer and operate at 10/100 Mbps on your network. It even allows you to print across the Internet! As the manufacturer points out, why put up with a fax when you can get the original?

Versatile, this server works with multiple operating systems and with multiple network protocols. Because it is dedicated to just one printer, it has a very small "footprint", always a plus in any office.

So, if you only have one printer and more than one computer, don't buy more printers, share the printer on your net and save money and space.

  • newegg USB 2.0 Port With the IOGEAR GPSU21's USB 2.0 port, share a USB multi-Functional printer with everyone on your network and enjoy fast data transfer speeds.
  • newegg Built-in Web Management With the built-in web management feature, configure, monitor and reset the print server via a web browser.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: Used in office to connect HP Laserjet 1012, which is a workhorse, old printserver died, this one was really easy to set up(if you know Networking basics)
another old print server just died so going to order another one today.

Cons: no cons

4 out of 5 eggsInstallation may be problematic under Win 7

Pros: Deployed in multiple locations, for many years.

Cons: Reliability is "not unanimous." Sometimes I get a good one, and other have been flaky forever... until replacement.

Other Thoughts: Installation requires software utility, provided with product. Seems to work well under WinXP but not at all under Win7. I have NOT tried to locate a Win7-friendly installer, to this point... because I have plenty of WinXP machines still in-network, to use.

So if you have Win7-or-later computers only, LOOK OUT. I can't speak for WinVista, at all.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well Once Installed

Pros: *Great value
*Small Footprint
*6 Foot CAT 6 cable supplied
*Eliminates the need for wireless printer connectivity, which is more expensive than wired only

Cons: * Software does not load in Win 8.1, even in compatibility mode
* Software dates from Vista!! even on the website
* Manual installation required of local printer to TCP IP port
* Some technical knowledge of networks required for manual installation

Other Thoughts: *Make sure you specify Protocol LPR and a print queue name if you are manually installing
*Don't share the printer

1 out of 5 eggsDoesnt Work for ALL types of printers

Pros: got a hold of tech support very quickly

Cons: I purchase the print server for a HiTi thermaly dye printer. I hook up all the gadgets needed and the print server doesn't recognize the hiti printer. I called tech support and told me that it only works for a specific types of printers. I returned the gadget.

4 out of 5 eggsGets the Job Done

Pros: Easy to setup in my opinion. have had this on for a year without the need to reboot. the interface stinks, but does not seem to be glitchy.

Cons: no good indication that the server is sending data or receiving data. for some large print jobs, it leaves you wondering if its doing anything.

5 out of 5 eggsWorked Right The First Time

Pros: Web interface pretty straight forward. Newegg.com has lightning-fast shipping. Once I ordered it, Newegg shipped it within hours. It never ceases to amaze me how fast this company is at processing and shipping orders. They get it to UPS like it was an emergency.

Cons: Currently none that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: As soon as I plugged in this print server, I checked my router network status. I did not see the print server listed on the client table. So I tried a different USB cable and then it showed up. Once it showed up on my network, Windows was able to install my printer. Windows cannot install a printer it cannot see. Apparently, the USB cable I was using wasn't rated for a printer. Just because a USB cable has a type A plug on one end and a type B plug on the either end doesn't mean it will work for a printer.

2 out of 5 eggsNo Clue

Pros: - Turns on

Cons: - Computer can't see GPSU21, with no details beyond that. Can't identify the problem.
- No diagnostic steps are provided to troubleshoot the above unidentified problem.
- Seems to use IPX for discovery? Haven't had an IPX stack installed since the 90s and wouldn't even know how to use it to diagnose the above problems.

Other Thoughts: Might work, might not. The important thing is that the software gives me no useful information, so I can't make that determination or take any diagnostic steps.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The GPSU21 will pull an automatic IP address through a DHCP server. The you can use the wizard or web interface for configuration. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk

Pros: none

Cons: Have to constanty reinstall printer to get it to work

Other Thoughts: I bought this for a small home office. From the beginning I had to reinstall the printer after nearly every print job to get it to work. I don't print often, and because of work and family medical problems I never made the time to contact Newegg until 2 days after their 30 day warranty. It was too late. I wasted money on a piece of garbage that I cannot return. A woman at Newegg said she would submit my case to be considered for a time exemption. I was told I would be contacted with the results, but I never heard from them again. I will not be buying Iogear again and I hesitate with NewEgg. Iogear offers no warranty. They know what their product is worth.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The product should not behave as you described. Since the unit is backed by IOGEAR's 3 year warranty feel free to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for linux

Pros: Small, lightweight, affordable, and easy to set up.

Cons: None that I could find.

Other Thoughts: Our Linux based thin client set up was having problems with a USB connected workgroup printer. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't and people in the office were getting mad. In reading up on the problem, most solutions suggested networking the printer through the lan. About a month ago, I picked up this inexpensive print server, connected it, plugged it in, and directed the ltsp to the correct url for the server and we haven't had a single problem since.
