4 out of 5 eggsWored fine for three days then had to reinstall

Pros: Worked well with no problem for three days connecting my debit machine to my iPhone.

Cons: Stopped working after three days. Couldn't reinstall the next day. Then, tried again the next day and installed successfully.

Other Thoughts: Purchased it to connect my debit machine (which could be connected to the Internet only by wire) to my iPhone 4 (personal hotspot). Installed with my Win7 laptop. Stopped working after three days. After numerous attempt to install again finally succeed. Not sure yet but, for now, I think it helped to reinstall it properly the fact that that, last time, I kept reset button pushed in, while resetting, for over 10 seconds.
Will see how long will work this time.

2 out of 5 eggsThey keep dying

Pros: When they work, they are GREAT! If the product would last a reasonable amount of time, it would easily get a 5+.

Cons: This is the second one to die in a short period of time. The first one lasted about 1 1/2 months. This one only lasted only a few weeks.

Other Thoughts: Be sure to get the extended warranty.

Manufacturer Response:

First, thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for your experience. The product should not behave as you described. Since the unit is backed by IOGEAR's 3 year warranty feel free to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

3 out of 5 eggsWon't work with tivo

Pros: These will work fine with a computer

Cons: These will not show up when you connect them to a tivo premiere, the trendnet units work fine however.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. We have tested the GWU627 with TiVo and did not have the problems you are describing. I will forward this to the product manager for his review. To better service you and understand your set up, please feel to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Once again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

5 out of 5 eggsTry restarting your router if unit disconnects

Pros: I am posting this to try to help those whose units continuously disconnect/reconnect.

Cons: I don't actually own one because, unfortunately, my TV is one generation too old to have internet capability.

Other Thoughts: If your unit continuously disconnects and reconnects try restarting your router. I have ATT Uverse, and EVERY time I connect to the wifi with a new device I have this same problem. Powering the router off (unplug) and back on fixes it every time.

1 out of 5 eggsMine also continuously disconnects

Pros: None. Would be convenient to have if I could get it to work.

Cons: Will not stay connected. It continuously disconnects on me. Useless and too much headache and time was spent trying to get it to work. I'm returning it for a refund and going back to just using a long ugly wire.

Other Thoughts: I tried everything I could, pairing up with WPS, resetting the device many times, connecting it to a PC manually entering the router password, entering the device's settings, rebooted router etc.

I would have updated the firmware but it wouldn't let me. Most times it would not stay connected long enough to be able to do it and other times it said invalid file format for the .BIN file which I know for a fact is the correct one because I got it from IOGear's website. I also redownloaded the file multiple times in case it did not download correctly but no dice.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for choosing IOGEAR and we apologize for the inconvenience. I would suggest trying to use a different Ethernet cable connected to the GWU627 to see if this corrects your problem. The product should not behave as you described. Since the unit is backed by IOGEAR's 3 year warranty feel free to contact our customer support at 1-866-946-4327 or email us: support@iogear.com. Again, thank you for choosing IOGEAR.

1 out of 5 eggsContinuously disconnects

Pros: It's small. It could potentially connect my PS3 to my wireless network.

Cons: Continuously connects, then loses connection, then connects, then loses connection...with laptop or PS3.
I updated the firmware hoping it would help but no. Submitted my dilemma to the IOGear website and will wait to hear back.

Other Thoughts: Attempted to set up the item with my laptop running Windows 7 and using a DIR-615 wireless router.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable

Pros: its a Netgear, light weight and easy to configure, for $20 its worth every penny

Cons: Still have cables coming out behind.. well just turn the other eyes and tuck this gadget away.

Other Thoughts: Got this device not long ago (Jan 2012) for $19.99, shell shocker deal. Back then it said "was $65.99", now its showing "was $75.99" and then mark down to $29.99.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent after updating firmware and finding hidden configuration options

Pros: Great signal to extend my home network to anywhere I have power and an Ethernet device.

Cons: 1. I just got two of these and the firmware was outdated. The updated firmware fixes security and other known issues so save yourself some hassle and check for an update right away.

2. An advanced configuration page is missing from teh documentation, menu.asp, that offers many more configuration options. Down a star for this essential page missing from the documentation, I had to really dig around for it after having some configuration issues but, with this page, final issues were handily resolved.

Other Thoughts: I've read some confusion about whether or not the 627s continue to use 192.168.1.252 after initial config. They do, and they do not (by default) DHCP for their own address. I know this because my network DHCPs in a different range but if I statically configure my laptop to a 192.168.1.x/24 IP I can still ping the GWU627 at its 192.168.1.252 address. If you have two+ default-configured GWU627s on your network you'll get to whichever one ARPs first. The only time this would be a problem however is if you had another device on .252 that you need to access. Otherwise, this "conflict" isn't a problem for two reasons.

1. They still bridge packets for other devices just fine even if they ARP-battle each other over who is the rightful "owner" of 192.168.1.252.
2. If you use the missing menu.asp page, mentioned above, you'll find a wealth of add'l config options including the ability to change the static IP or set the device to truly DHCP for its own IP -- resolved!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks very well.

Pros: Works with pretty much anything if you have either a web browser or a WPS router.

Cons: A little pricey, but not much.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this to replace a built in wireless for a Zotac Ion (dual core Atom). Stream hi-def video fine. You can either configure using a web browser, or use your WPS button. Either way, once you get it connected to your router, it is just an Ethernet port to whatever you hook it up to.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Device

Pros: Works well.
Half the price of proprietary adapters sold separately from Blue-Ray players.
WiFi security options, WPA/WPA2, WEP, etc..
Small footprint and concealable if you choose to mount it out of site.
Works with Tomato firmware (Toastman) on Netgear WNR3500L Router.

Cons: Depending on your WiFi configuration, setup can take some time.
Cheap patch cable packaged with the unit.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this model after missing the Shell Shocker deal on the IOGEAR GWU627, still saved $40 compared to the proprietary adapter that only works with Sony Blue-Ray players.
Once I got this set up, the connection dropped constantly.
Replaced the patch cable that came with the device for a patch cable from a router package and the connection has been stable. Successfully upgraded my player's firmware without issue.
This is a great alternative to purchasing manufacturer proprietary accessories.
Five eggs for a great product and for being compatible with third party firmware on my WiFi Router and my Sony Blue-Ray player.
