1 out of 5 eggsflashing power light

Pros: discreet appearance sitting on shelf.

Cons: too short lifespan

Other Thoughts: Bought on sale for $80 Sept'2013, but dying 9 months later with a flashing power light is unacceptable. (Had plenty of ventilation around unit.)

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Glenn, we apologize for the inconvenience as this is not the intended experience for this product.
If you have not already done so, please try performing a factory reset of your router with the following steps for firmware recovery, as your device may be experiencing a firmware issue causing the concern.
“How to recover a My Net Router from a failed firmware update”: http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9618

If a factory reset and firmware recovery of the device does not fix these concerns, we understand your situation and will gladly replace your in-warranty device, as we stand by our products and their associated warranties.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Purchase

Pros: Basic description of the item sums it up when working

Cons: Constant connection issues.

Have to reboot router for devices to connect properly

USB ports don't support items properly

External drive not showing properly when plugged in

Printer connected works for a few weeks then can't be found. Reboot helped sometimes.

Other Thoughts: Thought i got a great deal when it first hit $100 for an AC router but since have been constantly regretting the purchase. I have ordered a Netgear router to replace.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience you may have experienced. We always recommend ensuring that your router is up to date with the latest firmware, as this may easily resolve the issues you are experiencing. Assistance in how to update your routers firmware can be viewed on page 48 of the user manual provided by the following link.

http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705091.pdf#page=53

If you have already done so and are still experiencing these issues, in the interest of troubleshooting, you may want to reset the device back to factory default, as this will remove any residual configurations that may be causing conflicts within your network from an update that did not fully reset upon reboot of the unit. We would appreciate the opportunity to assist you directly in order to address any further concerns you may have with the device and/or your experience. You may contact us at (855) 842-5370, or via our support website at: http://support.wdc.com/contact/contact.asp?lang=en&ct=networking.

1 out of 5 eggsOverall Bad

Pros: -Fast when it works
-Good interface

Cons: -Frequently drops internet signal
-Unstable internet speeds when connected
-Doesn't recognize hd
-Poor tech support from person in India (horrible english)

Other Thoughts: I've owned this unit for a few months now. The first few months my computer would need to disconnect and reconnect to router in order to have internet connection once every other day. Now i have to do it every half hour. I also haven't been able to connect my Seagate HD to it out of the box. I called tech support for help, first the barely understood the tech as it was obviously outsourced to India. I worked as a IT specialist out of college so i was able to figure out what the tech wanted me to do through the bad english. The connection actually got worse and the router no longer even had an internet signal between the router an my cable modem. I had to reset the unit to even get to this point. Secondly i asked the tech why my HD wasn't being recognized. His answer was 1) the usb port might be bad 2) your HD is not compatible for the router. I asked for a solution and he said there's nothing he could do. I asked if i should have it replaced and he said no because the other features work. This will be my last Western Digital product after owning a number of their potable HDs.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsReally, Really Disappointing

Pros: 802.11ac at a bargain price (I got one at a huge discount) and stable software with gigabit Ethernet ports and fast enough routing speeds.

Cons: This thing is really disappointing. The biggest problem is it's poor wireless range - this router has worse range than the $25 Airlink101 802.11n unit (set to 1/4 transmit power!) that it replaced, likely primarily due to the fact that it has no external antennas.

Even when devices are in it's quite small range (for both 2.4 and 5Ghz bands), connection speeds are limited. Think 72mbps connections within 15ft of the router (I can see it across the room).

QoS quality is questionable and difficult to use.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,
Actual data throughput and wireless coverage may vary based on wireless network capacity, data throughput rate, range and coverage. Performance depends on factors including distance from the access point, volume of network traffic, building materials and construction, operating system used, configuration of wireless products used, interference for other wireless signals and other adverse conditions. If we can be of assistance in working towards optimizing the connection with your device in your environment, please please contact us at (855) 842-5370, or via our support website at:

1 out of 5 eggsblinking power light

Pros: worked while it lasted for 7 months.

Cons: was working fine last night as i watched youtube videos, and then i wanted to watch a video in HD so i switched from 360 to 720 and the internet goes out, i looked at the router and the power light was blinking. Tried to reset, unplug it nothing worked. Cant even bring up the routers main page.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings, we are sorry to hear about this inconvenience. In the interest of troubleshooting, you may want to reset the device back to factory defaults, as this will remove any residual configurations that may be causing conflicts within your network from an update that did not fully reset upon reboot of the unit.

1 out of 5 eggsflashing light of death

Pros: AC speeds, Gigabit ports, multi-USB, guest networks, WPS, simple/advanced gui options, customizable configuration, low profile.

Cons: 5Ghz band doesnt go the distance.

I bought this router on 7/21/13 and its worked amazingly well up until 3 weeks ago. I came home to no wifi connection and a flashing blue light. Odd. Reset my modem and resent the signal from ISP and still no active wifi. Wired internet worked through the modem but coudnt get it to pass to the router. Had to hard reset the router(disco all cables, hold reset button for like a minute- it took a few tries but it eventually reset to factory defaults) and then reprogram my networks/firewall, ports, etc. I made a backup of my config this time haha

so fast forward to this week, its weds and I've had to hard reset the router twice this week already! Luckily I have my backup config saved so I was able to upload it into the router but it's still a pain and very inconvenient.

Called WD and they said warranty was over. I advised him of purchase date, had me screenshot my invoice, upload to the WD site that was related to my case# and also upload a pic of my routers label(s/n, p/n, etc). They will update my warranty info within 24 hrs and I will be able to do an RMA.

Ive read reviews that state they dont do RMA for this device but I'm not that far yet so I dont know what is going to happen.

WHAT I KNOW- do not waste your money on a chintzy product like this one. I bought this router when they ran the $60 off promo so I only paid $100 but its still very unsettling that a renowned company would sell a product like this and not keep up support for it. Seriously, its 2014 and the last firmware update is from feb 2013. Thats a shame.

Other Thoughts: I have an old backup router Linksys(B&G) that im going to use in the time being. Mind you its over 7 years old and runs like a champ!!!

2 out of 5 eggsDied after 7 months

Pros: While it worked, the wireless speeds and distance were good.

Cons: It died after 6 months with the flashing blue power light (very common problem it seems). I contacted WD and after a week they said they don't stock it anymore and offered me a refund. While I really wanted a replacement, I suppose a refund will allow me to get something a bit more reliable.

Other Thoughts: This product obviously seems out of WD's core competency, so I'm going to stick with network companies like Netgear or D-Link.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Matthew, we want to extend our sincere apologies for the issue you have experienced. 5 out of 5 eggs6 months and still going strong

Pros: fast, good range, not a single drop

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I have read all the reviews, don't know if I just was lucky, but this router has performed perfectly for over 6 months now. Not a single connection drop. Here are a couple bits of info that might explain why: 1) I turn off all electronics in my home when I am not there, always, even if just for a few hours. I even disconnect the main breaker at the meter. No fridge, No A/C, etc, nothing is powered on. 2) I only use the AC and N wifi standards, all others are turned off. If someone is at my home and needs G, I send them to McDonalds. 3) I routinely change wifi channels, and monitor all signals within range of their data traffic and throughput. 4) My router does NOT get hot, however, I still have a fan that blows on my router and SB6141 modem, regardless of their temperature. 5) I use a UPS for my modem and router. And that UPS has a line condition monitor that alerts me to any power deficiencies. 6) All electronics are rebooted at least daily in my home.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy

Pros: Router is fast and "up to par" when it works.

Cons: I've had the blinking blue light on two so far. Although Western Digital has a great RMA department, it would be nice to receive one that last more than 3 months. UPS has enough of my money with returning this particular device.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear moneV, we apologize for the inconvenience as this is not the intended experience for this product.
