5 years and still going strong.
- Pros: I've had this card since sometime in late 2003 or early 2004.
This card has outlasted 2 wireless routers and worked in multiple laptops I've used it with.
Fast, good signal strength from anywhere in my house going through at least 3-4 walls and all of my kitchen appliances.
Does it's job like a champ. I picked the right component from the start for once!
- Cons: It won't die so I can buy something newer and faster, but I've tried that and the newer D-Link card I tried and failed to get working without bogging down the computer got sent back.
Not really a con, huh?
- Other Thoughts: I can't say enough good about it. Buy it, you won't be disappointed. I wish I could say the same for Netgear's wireless routers - avoid those things.
Why Bother?
- Pros: It comes with a disk?
- Cons: Provides barely comparable if even that much performance as the standard wireless on an old (and severely beaten up) Toshiba Satellite I picked up in a pawnshop to take to Iraq. Also hideously ugly (vain I know, but the laptop looked better with out it).
- Other Thoughts: Don't buy it unless you somehow managed to destroy your integrated wireless.
- Pros: It worked out of the box with Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron: I just plugged it in and it connected to my preferred network with absolutely NO configuration at all (I love you Linux, xoxo). It massively extends the range of my laptop's built-in wireless card, which I got in 2005, detecting about 25 networks where the built-in RaLink card only detects 4. I can now actually use the AT&T Starbucks wifi that I'm paying for, and that my built-in card was not detecting because of its short range.
- Cons: None yet
