5 out of 5 eggsVery Powerful Smart switch

Pros: Smart switch at a decent price. +2 copper ports than most other competing switches. Supports everything you would expect it to, and it's interface is very fast.

Has a lifetime warranty

Cons: No con's here

Other Thoughts: It's a little bit more expensive than competitors products, but you get +2 nic ports, and cisco's expertise.

4 out of 5 eggsThis one is not PoE

Pros: Best in class, managed switch, business class CPE. High throughput and switching capacity (backplane)

Cons: The PoE model is SG200-26P and is $200 more. Please correct your product description. It's misleading.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely recommend buy on this item. It is high class, quality switch compared to other brands. For a little more money, you are buying a peace of mind.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: If you're familiar with Cisco switches, you'll immediately be familiar with their web interface. Contrary to what others have said, the web interface is very fast and very well presented. I've used much worse web interfaces (Netgear). Upgrading the firmware was so easy, I didn't have to search the depths of their website for it and the switch provides an HTTP method of upgrading. I setup VLANs and LAGG without any issues. In addition, the hardware is fantastic and very durable.

Cons: Needs more features for comparable competitors.

A bit expensive if not bought on sale.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely buy again.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Wanted good quality switch. Needed only Link Aggregation and VLANs. This has worked fine.

Cons: Lots of standard Cisco services turned on by default, such as discovery protocols CDP, LLAP and bonjour. Not really a negative as they can be turned off if not needed.

Other Thoughts: Putting about 70GB of data through the switch a day. Even without an internal fan, with the only utilzed features being Link Aggregation and VLANs , the case is barely warm to the touch.

3 out of 5 eggsGood if on a budget

Pros: decent price
24 gigabit ports
2 gigabit uplinks (minigbic support)

Cons: horrible web interface
very cryptic vlan settings
slow to factory default
tedious to manage because you have to set each setting one at a time for every port

Other Thoughts: cisco small business works alright at a fair price for dumb L2 switch but forget about the management web interface. its inefficient, slow, and buggy.

did manage to get this doing 802.11q vlans with a cisco 1941 but it was an absolute PITA to get working. having much experience with network hardware, i found it to be "just enough" to get the job done in a simple setup but would not recommend this switch for anyone who has to manage a network remotely.

if you need a managed switch do yourself a favor and get a real cisco switch second hand and enjoy the elegant, efficient, beautiful ios cli.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Product

Pros: Purchased two of these, one for each switch closet at school to replace/upgrade 10/100 units and add gigabyte ports for newer equipment. It appears that these actually helped several network problems we were having. Easily installed and have been working without a hitch for over three months now. Looking forward to years of good service. The extra two ports for gigabit/fibre optic connection to other switches came in handy for connecting to other buildings on campus (via fibre optic) and not losing any of the original 24 ports.

Cons: None that I could see unless having the instructions writen in gramatically correct English counts. I had to re-read the instructions a couple time before it sank in that you need to set these up using a computer set to a fixed IP address around 192.168.1.250. Not a CON, just a comment.

Other Thoughts: Looking to purchase another one to replace an older 10/100 switch that is still in the rack and to give me an added 24 1Gb ports for future computer upgrades. The smart capability seems to help with the many and varied distances to our classrooms.

1 out of 5 eggsProblems for me

Pros: It runs well as a plain gigabit switch.

Cons: My switch has been very problematic. Tried to set up a VLAN with no success. Rebooting will cause system to lose all settings, including password, and restore to factory default. Associate got VLAN working once, but upon reboot of system it went back to factory settings.

Other Thoughts: I'm sure this is a good switch, but I must have gotten a lemon. Time to RMA. If the new one works fine, I may give a few eggs back to the rating.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Corey,

We’re sorry to hear about your issue with the SG200-26 switch. Have you updated the firmware? If not, here is a link to the latest update which was released on February 8, 2012: http://bit.ly/Azww7T. If you need further assistance with your switch, the Cisco Small Business Support Community (www.cisco.com/go/smallbizsupport) is a great resource. 5 out of 5 eggsNight and Day

Pros: All I can say is WOW. I was borrowing a Dell gigabit switch from a tech company after my 10/100 was going in and out. The Dell was getting hammered and couldn't bring up x-ray images quick enough

With Dell gigabit:
3-5 second single image access
10-20 second 17 image access
With Cisco
0-2 second single image access
0-5 second 17 image access
This is using the exact same server/router/firewall

Smart sensing technology is literally "plug and play"

Cons: I could say the price but this is so cheap for a switch. Server grade stuff is just crazy expensive in general.

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what we ordered.

Pros: Everything! This smart switch is exactly what I was needing.

Cons: No internal fan. The closet where I have the switch mounted has no a/c, or vent. The switch gets a little warm, but has not had a failure yet.

Other Thoughts: Money well spent! Highly suggested!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for the SMB world or technical home user

Pros: Plug and play - that's all you really need to do. I set up some advanced stuff in the gui (automaticalyl gets a DHCP address so configuration is a breeze!)

Cons: At this price it doesn't do PoE (but I knew that going in and it wasn't a deal breaker)

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a great switch for an SMB or advanced home user. Offers many bells and whistles that the $500+ price range but in a more affordable price.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi JT82!

Thank you for the positive comments. Glad you are satisfied with your Cisco Small Business switch! We appreciate the feedback.

Thanks,

Diana
