Effortlessly build a powerful, easy-to-use basic business network at an affordable price.

The Cisco 200 Series SLM2048T-NA Smart Gigabit Switch combines powerful network performance, reliability and all essential network management features you need for a solid business network. It speeds up file transfer rate, extends wireless operation range, helps improve slow and sluggish networks, and keeps your vital business applications available. It boasts an array of security features to maintain a high level of security for your business. It provides basic management and quality-of-service (QoS) features beyond those of an unmanaged or consumer-grade switch, at a lower cost than managed switches.

Additionally, its simple-to-use web-based utility and an array of exclusive Cisco features – like Cisco Discovery Protocol, and Cisco Smartports etc., enable you to easily deploy, manage, and troubleshoot your network. It’s energy efficient and eco-friendly.

Note: The SLM2048T-NA Smart Gigabit Switch includes 48 x RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and 2 x SFP slots.

  • newegg High-speed connectivity Whether you need basic high-speed connectivity for your computers and servers or a comprehensive voice, data, and wireless technology solution, the SLM2048T-NA Gigabit Switch meets all your business needs. It can quickly and securely connect employees working in small offices with one another and with all of the servers, printers, and other devices they use. The high-speed connectivity helps speed file transfers and data processing, improve network uptime, and keep your employees connected and productive. Moreover, it can work with Cisco and third-party wireless solutions to extend the reach of your network. Employees can work productively from conference rooms and common areas, collaborate in any office, and access business applications from wherever they are.
  • newegg Maximum network security The SLM2048T-NA Gigabit Switch provides security and network management features you need to maintain a high level of security for your business, keep unauthorized users off the network, and protect your business data. It provides integrated network security to reduce the risk of a security breach, with IEEE 802.1X port security to control access to your network. The denial-of-service (DOS) attack prevention increases network uptime in the presence of an attack.
  • newegg Unified communications The SLM2048T-NA Gigabit Switch includes QoS features to allow you to prioritize delay-sensitive traffic in your network and let you converge all of your communications solutions - such as IP telephony and video surveillance - onto a single Ethernet network. It provides native support for IPv6 alongside traditional IPv4. That means you can take full advantage of IPv6-enabled operating systems and applications in the future, without having to upgrade your network equipment.
  • newegg Easy configuration and management The SLM2048T-NA Gigabit Switch is easy to deploy and use by small businesses or the partners that serve them. Cisco Discovery Protocol and Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP-MED) automatically detect all the devices connected to your network and then automatically configure themselves for the appropriate connectivity and instruct the devices to use appropriate voice VLAN or QoS parameters. Cisco Smartports technology provides for more advanced capabilities and hands-on control by automatically configuring ports with specific levels of security, QoS, and availability according to the type of connected device, based on Cisco best practices and pretested configurations. The Cisco FindIT Network Discovery utility offers simple-to-use web-based interfaces for easy network deployment, management and troubleshooting.
  • newegg Energy efficient The SLM2048T-NA Gigabit Switch is designed to be energy efficient and eco-friendly without compromising performance. It can automatically power down on Gigabit Ethernet ports when a link is not active. The support for Energy-Efficient Ethernet improves the efficiency of network equipment, and provides standardized signaling mechanisms, which can enable rapid transitions between normal operation and low power idle (LPI) states in systems on either end of the physical layer link. The embedded intelligence helps adjust power based on cable length. The fanless design reduces power consumption, increases reliability, and provides quieter operation.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat switch!

Pros: Easy to configure and install.

Cons: Lots of rather obscure configuration options might be a minus for somebody who just wants a plug-n-play piece of hardware.

Other Thoughts: Absolutely no complaints. Took switch out of the box, did a basic configuration on it, and installed it in the wiring closet. Easy peasy, no problems whatsoever. It *is* a managed switch though (via the built-in web interface), so I wouldn't just take it out of the box and plug it into a network as-is...at least change the admin password!

Big added plus is that the rackmount brackets can be installed in any orientation. I needed to install this switch flat against the wall, and was pleasantly surprised to find that I could use the unit's rackmount brackets for this. I'll definitely buy more of these when more upgrading is necessary.

4 out of 5 eggsQuick setup, read specs carefully

Pros: Easy, easy, easy to set up. All web based gui for setup. Runs fast, and 2 extra ports are great for uplinks or connecting another switch. Great for a business with limited or no technical staff.

Cons: No SNMP, so it will not talk to SpiceWorks. No serial cable or command line functionality, but that is not really what this switch is all about. The fans are a little loud, I would not recommend having this out near people. Great for use in a server/telco closet.

Other Thoughts: One of the best values for a 48 (actually 50) port GbE switch. I have these running at my HQ office, and I plan to add them at my branches. Easy config, just make sure to remove the default cisco//cisco account for security!

5 out of 5 eggsA little pricey but a good switch

Pros: Has been very reliable, no lockups or weirdness.

Cons: Price is a little high for an unmanaged switch, but the reliability keeps me coming back. We have 6 without any problems.

3 out of 5 eggsCompatibility problems

Pros: lots of ports
price
web interface

Cons: Serious compatibility issues

Other Thoughts: I run a small network with about 20 desktops. After the upgrade to the cisco switch, three of the on-board realtek NICs (on gigabyte motherboards) would not operate at 1 gigabit and also had horrible performance over windows networking and ms sql server. I'm talking 2, maybe 3 kilobytes per second. The replacement intel expi9301ctblk NICs didn't have this issue, however they too would not operate at 1 gigabit. There seems to be a growing trend in marketing inferior products as "small business". Caveat Emptor.

2 out of 5 eggsBad Luck?

Pros: An unmanaged switch that is straightforward and easy to administer

Cons: In the RMA process for the second time, about to receive the third one. This unit is being used in a building with frequent power failures, but with power to the unit regulated by a UPS. It seems after being switched off/on a few times the unit doesn't fully boot anymore. Fans turn on but not the interfaces. Same behavior both times after about a dozen powerdowns. Other equipment (router and some servers) in the same building function fine after the powerdowns. It seems resiliance is not a feature of this switch.

3 out of 5 eggsNo PoE

Pros: Gigabit switch...

Cons: I'm not sure why IEEE 802.3af is listed for this model. It DOES NOT HAVE PoE. The model with PoE is the SG200-50P, not this one. Very upset about this.

Other Thoughts: $600 for gigabit switch with no PoE seems overpriced to me.

5 out of 5 eggsPricey, but worth it

Pros: 48 ports in a 1U form, relatively quiet, easy UI. Rated for temperatures up to 104 F. Two SFP ports for fiber uplinks.

Cons: Air flow is to either side of the unit. Not an issue for my situation, but I was expecting front to back air flow. No console port.

Other Thoughts: Roughly twice the price of the last switch I used for a computer lab, but the port density alone makes it worth it. UI was a piece of cake, especially for someone whose Cisco Kung-Fu is rusty. Set up a LAG group with LACP for a server in about two minutes, configured most of the ports for host status, and was done inside of 10 minutes. Quieter than the last switch as well. Full suite of features available, but I have not tested many of them (QoS, IGMP snooping, Multicast, VOIP detection, etc.).

3 out of 5 eggsFeature set missing one important thing

Pros: High port density in an inexpensive switch; solid feature set with LACP, LLDP, port mirroring, QoS, 802.1x and 802.1q.

Cons: No SNMP.

Cisco has issued an errata that says the mentions of SNMP in the manual were in error and will be removed in the next iteration of the manual.

Other Thoughts: Cisco kept Bonjour, of all things, but dropped SNMP. I missed that omission in the list of other very useful features, which means that I cannot monitor this switch with our centralized NMS without writing a wget wrapper.
