5 out of 5 eggsDoes a great job.

Pros: Fast and capable. Lots of stuff to tinker with under the hood. PoE has proven reliable for driving a phone network and configuration is as simple or as complex as you want it to be.

Cons: Just enough rope to hang yourself with apparently. If you don't know what you're doing then I could see people getting into trouble configuring this switch.

Other Thoughts: I saw a lot of reviews from other people that didn't seem to read the specs of this switch before they bought it. It's a great SMB switch.

3 out of 5 eggsInadequate Description

Pros: Plug and Play, 50 gigabit ports

Cons: Only 24 of the 50 ports support POE, newegg did not have this listed on their site. In my rush to replace a 10/100 POE switch I had failed to look at cisco's website. I should have ordered the SG200-50FP which supports 48 POE ports.

Other Thoughts: The switch over all works as designed, however because of the lack of details on the product page I am disappointed.

1 out of 5 eggsArrived DOA

Pros: 48 ports, all GigE.

Cons: Came DoA. The switch arrived today. I installed it a few hours later. The box was in good condition. No major damage. The switch was in pristine physical condition.

I spent my time connecting all our network devices to this switch, taking down our network, then plugged in the power cable. All the connected network device link lights came on solid for a few seconds, then ALL suddenly went out.

Any device connected to the switch showed a link, but there was no link light on the Cisco switch itself. The status light continually flashed even though there are two DHCP servers with non-conflicting ranges configured, so it should have picked up an IP quickly.
Even tried holding down the reset button. No joy.

Talked with Cisco support first. They remoted into my computer to try to look for the device. No luck. He pretty much told me it was a lost cause and it had to be RMA'd. He gave me a case number to give to Newegg.

Other Thoughts: Very annoyed by this. Wasted hours of my Friday at work diagnosing this on a BRAND NEW product.

I spent the extra money so I could get a good, reputable, name-brand product for this company. I trust(ed) Cisco and I am very disappointed by this encounter. I really hope Cisco tests their small business networking devices more than plugging it in for a few seconds. This instance is not evidence of that, however...

However, I do commend the Cisco support rep for dealing with my annoyed-self.

I also commend the Newegg Returns rep for dealing with me.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat switch!

Pros: Works out of the box, easy to configure, POE-sensing, Green capabilities, quiet for a rack setup

Cons: Management interface isn't the quickest, but it works fine.

4 out of 5 eggsVery good switch for the price...

Pros: price, reliability, documentation

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: DSM, all the information is in the manual... 24 ports can have POE switched on an off, and each port can be set for power priority and current limit. Unless you're running an office full of data phones, having only 24 POE ports shouldn't be a problem for most people- plenty for ip cams, poe access points, etc in most cases. Bcause switch specs vary so much between manufacturers and even within each manufacturer's lines, I wouldn't think of buying a new switch without reading through the manual. Cisco makes a boatload of switches with different features... always a good idea to read the manual before you buy, not just for switches, but for almost anything. And, BTW, Cisco's data sheet does list the number of POE ports:

The manual can also be downloaded and has detailed information on setting up POE on ports as well as a lot of other relevent information.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi JK,

Thank you for the positive feedback. Glad to hear you are satisfied with your product! We appreciate the comments.

2 out of 5 eggsonly 24 Ports support PoE!

Pros: Decent switch for being a Cisco small business

Cons: THIS SWITCH ONLY SUPPORTS 24 PORTS ON POE! At the time 2/9/11 they do not mention anything on their specs about only 24 ports being PoE ready. This is a big freaking joke since you are paying 1000 dollars for a 24 port PoE switch. Its not like this is a fully managed switch. Basically Cisco's marketing is out to screw people. People buy this thinking its a 48 port PoE and then the eat it after they get it... Shame on you Cisco.

Other Thoughts: Returning this to newegg. Cisco just wasted enough of my companies money, neweggs money and their own...
