4 out of 5 eggsDecent, inexpensive Wifi Firewall/Router

Pros: *Stable firmware (updated to latest version:
*Management interface is very simple compared to higher-end firewalls, like Sonicwall TZ series
*Can select IP mode (IP v4, v6, or combination) and Wireless band (B, G, N, or combination)
*Firewall settings can be configured to your heart's content
*Compact design
*Supports DDNS

Cons: *Only supports RIP routing protocol
*No firewall settings documentation - Administration manual is very light in details, mostly definitions of phrases and terms as shown on the Management interface

Other Thoughts: Purchased this firewall has a temporary substitute of my Sonicwall TZ200, which is locked up in storage since I recently moved. It is a notch above the Netgear and DLink router/firewalls, but it does not seem to match the capabilities of higher-end firewalls like from Sonicwall and Watchguard.

My configuration is a Cisco RV110W with Motorola SB6121 cable modem on Comcast. I setup a different DNS Server in my DHCP scope, using Google's public DNS servers as my primary (and not the ones from Comcast).

Highly recommend the Cisco firewall as a low-cost firewall.

2 out of 5 eggsNot very expensive but usalbe life is too short.

Pros: Simple to set up. Good features. Decent range.

Cons: Failed just after 2 years - with a 1 year warrantee. I expected more from a company like Cisco - even in this price range.

1 out of 5 eggsAnnoying

Pros: Don't know yet, can't get the darn thing working

Cons: I have bought Cisco products in the past. The last thing I bought was a Cisco E2000 series router and the GUI interface was easy to configure and it was responsive. What I mean by that is when I clicked on something, it would open up or it would submit my changes. With this device, I try to login using the default IP address And it takes FOREVER to load. Sometimes it does nothing. I have to periodically hit the refresh button on the browser. Most of the time, like 99%, the login page never comes up, it just sits there loading. I then tried to use my desktop to configure this and it works better. But even then, it doesn't respond all the time. I tried to upload the latest firmware, and after it said it it was complete, it just sits at "loading and processing data". It doesn't do anything. It never finishes the upload. Worse of all is I was able to set it up and when I try to connect to it wirelessly, I cant connect. I have to use Ethernet to connect. I've never in my life bought a device that was so difficult to set up. It's not anything other than the device just not responding to commands in the GUI interface. I'm going to buy another firewall, but it sure as heck won't be Cisco

Other Thoughts: Is Cisco usually this disappointing? I've only bought 2 products from them, 1 worked, the other didn't.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat basic business router

Pros: A very solid VPN firewall for the price.
Simple setup as long as you're not doing anything super advanced.
Will do VLANs.
Will do a guest network on a separate VLAN.

Cons: Interface is a bit odd, but if you're used to setting up Cisco/Linksys routers you shouldn't find too many surprises. It likes to default your entries to things that will cause errors. For instance, when setting up a guest network it defaulted the VLAN to the same one as the main network.

Other Thoughts: If you have a small business or small office and need a router that is more secure than your average consumer router, and will last longer, this is a great choice.

5 out of 5 eggsexcellent

Pros: This is an amazing little firewall. It does VLAN's (tagged and untagged), QOS, Prioritization and supports up to 5000 sessions. I already installed over 20 of these and never had a problem.

Cons: VLAN ID's start at VLAN1 then VLAN3?? they do not allow VLAN 2 and I believe it limits you to 4 VLANS but none of these "cons" are really "cons", This is a perfect firewall for the money.

Other Thoughts: The best little firewall for the price, and does what the "big boy" firewalls can do.

2 out of 5 eggsHorrible RMA process

Pros: Device does what it is advertised to do....when it is working.

Cons: Device failed after a few months. Have been trying to get it RMA'd through Cisco since the failure and have gotten no where. RMA process is horrible, have had to give them order details and numbers multiple times only to be told it was sent to the retailer(New Egg) by a distribution company and to take up my RMA request with them.

Other Thoughts: I am giving the device itself 2 stars because there is nothing special about it. It is a VPN capable wireless router. The service I have received from Cisco is absolutely awful. Will avoid Cisco devices in the future as this is not the first time I have had an absolutely terrible experience trying to RMA something with them.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Home Router

Pros: -Excellent Throughput
-Decent Wireless Range
-Setup is easy
-Great Guest wireless feature
-SPI Firewall

Cons: -No site-site VPN
-Management interface has its quirks, many of which are quite annoying.

Other Thoughts: First of all - this is not a small business device. It is a very good home router with the latest firmware, but it is not business grade. There is no site-site VPN functionality, and for that I docked it an egg.

That being said, it works well. Throughput is impressive, and it is a snap to setup. I was also pleasantly surprised at the wireless. I was not expecting much, but it works well and has good range for such a low end device. Overall, I would recommend this to those looking for a solid home router that is not a cheap $29 special.
