3 out of 5 eggsExtremely difficult to set up

Pros: Easy to use once set up

Cons: Horrific setup process
Poor documentation
You need to be a "Cisco Partner" just to download manuals.
Works with a limited number of Cisco phones.
Can't be used with remote office setups (other than to forward calls)
All phones need to be restarted any time a minor change is made to the system.

Other Thoughts: Cisco expects that the people installing their equipment are trained "Cisco partners," who have taken classes and have certifications on using their equipment. You can't even download the installation manuals without being signed up as a Cisco partner. I managed to get set up as one though and was finally able to download the manuals. Setting this up is much more difficult than you may expect. You need a high end router or a manged switch that allows you to create different VLANs and route certain traffic between them to use this phone system. Simply plugging this unit into our system would crash our entire network, preventing any internet or network use from our computers. I've never even heard of such a thing happening before. It took several days of troubleshooting, reading forums and such until we were able to get this unit to play nicely with the rest of our network. Ultimately the only way the unit would not crash our network is if it was plugged into the DMZ port of our router, and I suspect this is the only way that many other users have been able to integrate the unit into their network. Cisco made some very, very bad decisions in designing how this unit connects to an existing network.

But, once I had everything set up after several days and all-nighters, it works great and is very reliable.

I have it working well now, but honestly I am afraid to touch any settings or upgrade the firmware for fear that it will crash our entire network again and leave us without phone service until I work out its issues again. And believe me, I am a very knowledgeable about computers and networking.

In the end, I would not recommend this unit, even to somebody who is very knowledgeable about computers and networking. It is just a poorly conceived unit and the documentation, while extensive, is not very useful (and often contradictory) with regard to troubleshooting the setup issues which I experienced.

4 out of 5 eggsGood choice for small office

Pros: Price
MOH built in (no external source required)
Up to 24 Stations
FXS port is fully usable as a station (not just failover)
FXO port failover to the FXS port in event of power failure

Cons: Currently there is no support for third party SIP phones or any soft-phones (Apple or Android).

Other Thoughts: Be sure to upgrade the firmware. Many of the issues I ran into initially, which would have been added to the CONS list, have been dealt with on newer firmware versions. All voice traffic is VLAN tagged so be sure your LAN switch's can support the traffic. The 4 LAN ports are non-PoE, so again, be sure to purchase AC Power Adapters, Power Injectors, or PoE Switch to support the stations.
