4 out of 5 eggsGood Solid ATA

Pros: Cisco makes a well priced, relatively feature-rich little ATA which is perfect for converting older analog phones to use in VoIP situations. This isn't something I would recommend for large phone systems such as when trying to adapt an entire analog PBX, but rather for home and small office environments.

Cons: I would not recommend using this to adapt old analog fax machines, the calls typically get dropped part way through and multi-page faxes will drop pages like crazy. I recommend a software VoIP faxing solution instead.

Other Thoughts: It could do with more FXS ports and Gigabit ethernet, but hey, you get what you pay for.

3 out of 5 eggsLow end SPA

Pros: Cheap, highly configurable, size.

Cons: This unit performance is very slow, it has a hard time if you try to use as a internet pass through barely handling 40mbps. Configuration for simple and basic SIP was difficult to say the least, had to read multiple forum and q&a just to figure out where to put SIP domain, usr, pw. Management interface is only accessible via IE. Firefox, chrome, iceweasal, and safari all would not work for me at least.

Other Thoughts: If you're tech savvy and don't "need" to utilize the WAN "pass through" on this unit, for the price it's a cheap solution. If you're a novice, you will have a difficult time configuring this device.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Impressed

Pros: price and shipping was acceptable

Cons: two of the three ata's ordered did not have all the components for the power cord, which makes the power adapter for the device useless. With out the insert for the wall plug these devices are useless. Luckily we had extra ac adapters of the same amp and voltage on hand.

Other Thoughts: Would not order from this supplier again. Taking the chance on ordering parts without ALL items included in the packaging would make the purchase worthless

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great with Asterisk

Pros: Small, Works Well, Straight Forward Setup.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I've had experience with several devices like this over the years and this is my favorite one yet. Yes, there are TONS of options, but the wizard mode works great, and saves a lot of time.

I'm running PIAF, but all asterisk systems should be an easy connection.

Tip: Edit the dial plan to reduce the pre-dial latency.

4 out of 5 eggsGood device with some omissions

Pros: Once the firmware is upgraded to version 1.3.3 or higher there are no issues. I have ran 2 G.711 calls concurrently with no issues other than a bit of minor lag but it did not affect call quality just the decode lag went from 120ms to 160ms.

Cons: Minor lag occurs when having 2 g.711 calls concurrently from 120ms for single call to 160ms when having 2 calls. Processor could be stronger to deal with this. Also only 32mb of ram which after device loads only 10mb remains. Would have gladly paid an extra 20 bucks for a processor in the device that is far more capable.

Other Thoughts: its better than Granstream ht702 but not by much. If fact I believe they share the same weak processor which is a DSP processor. Yes I know DSP stands for digital Sound Processor but it also a name brand of processor as well.

3 out of 5 eggsBasic device with > 20 Mbps throughput deficiencies

Pros: Nice ATA device
QOS works fine with newest firmware
Straightforward web interface

Cons: Device is CPU limited such that download speeds above 20 Mbps are not possible... this is with or without QOS enable. Search for "SPA122 throughput limitation" online if you have doubts.

Other Thoughts: The QOS actually works well to properly prefer VoIP traffic, but the CPU horsepower of this device falls flat just past 19 to 20 Mbps download. If you have internet bandwidth with download speeds lower than this you won't notice; higher than this and you'll be looking for another device.

4 out of 5 eggsNice ATA for folks that are STUCK on analog phones :)

Pros: Works in BRIDGE mode! Not a pain like the SPA2101. Easy configuration via browser. easy firmware updates. Definately flash the latest when you get it as mine was very old like V1.0 or the like firmware level. Fair price and let me repurpose my analog phones where it is difficult or undesirable to run Ethernet for a voip phone.

Cons: Some audio when used with Asterisk sounds distorted. But only on the IVR or Asterisk prompts voices. Normal conversations are FINE.

4 out of 5 eggsVOIP

Pros: it finally worked.

Cons: CISCO will not provide support to small business users unless you call Monday - Friday during normal business hours. Evenings and weekends they do not offer small business support and unless you have a paid account. Poor documentation there is ton of information to wade through but no where do they tell you the essential information you need to get the thing working.

Other Thoughts: You cannot access the Administrator via the WAN (Blue) RJ-45 without first changing the administrator password. Connect the router directly to a PC via the LAN (Yellow) RJ-45 and access and login to administrator with username: admin, password: admin and change the password and turn on the WAN administrator option. You will then be able to access the adapter via the WAN (Blue) RJ-45.

5 out of 5 eggsQuality VoIP device

Pros: Config utility has ability to save file and restore. Great if you need to roll back. (Just don't forget your password if you change it like I did :) ) With built-in router, you can set up LAN IP inside gateway router to easily reach config page.

Cons: Firmware most likely will need upgrade on delivery. Must be done in steps to get latest... ck Cisco readme faq. Cisco site is a bear to navigate! Look for this device under Small Business Comm. I recommend upgrade to latest fw before provisioning. (Most ITSPs will not do this... u gotta do it.)

Other Thoughts: l had a little difficulty getting my ITSP to provision this phone since it was a 3rd party purchase. Finally got a tech to spoof the s/n for one of their stocked units so that provisioning could be auto'd. I put this device on my LAN and can now use analog fax with analog phone, in additon to my IP phone. Uses same Dial Plan on both digital subscriber lines.
