1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY

Pros: Clean GUI, lots of options, multiple SSID options, PoE, can run in a cluster with other ones so no need for a controller which is amazing and a very slick wallmount to hide cables.

Cons: for Wireless N it straight up doesnt go above 1mb downstream, found tons and tons of forums on this and cases open with Cisco and they did not fix it, works up to 15mb when N is disabled, upgraded to latest firmware and still not fixed, its just not worth half the money it costs

Other Thoughts: go for the next one up, if it wasnt for the wireless N not working this would be an amazing WAP

1 out of 5 eggsStill not Working

Pros: NA

Cons: I reviewed this 1.5 years ago - this is an update

Update April 2014:

One and a half year has passed and Cisco has still not solved this problem. If I were the only one experiencing issues I could understand that Cisco would ignore this. But looking at various web-forums, including Cisco's own web support forum, shows that I am not alone. I am very disappointed that Cisco is releasing a product that does not fulfill the basic function it is sold for, in this case a Wireless N access point, and one and a half years later the issues are still not resolved. I have since long moved on, as I needed a working system. I am very happy with the EnGenius EAP600 AP's I bought. I have installed 3 of them and they have worked without any problems - recommended.

4 out of 5 eggsWork great, firmware

Pros: Inexpensive and easy to setup, has most of the features needed for small business wireless.

Cons: Web GUI not always the snappiest, and no CLI available. Wired ethernet only 10/100 and no Captive Portal (integrated Radius) - have to go with WAP321 if you want that.

Other Thoughts: Purchased 2 of these despite negative reviews. They shipped with an old firmware version so first thing done was upgrade to latest and have had zero problems with setup or use.

1 out of 5 eggsNot a Wireless - N AP

Pros: See Below

Cons: Does not work as a Wireless - N access point

Other Thoughts: I have two WAP121 upgraded to the latest FW 1.0,2,3. I am using a Cisco RV4000 Gateway/Router with Comcast internet service. This has worked great for the last 5 years. That is until I decided to upgrade to 802.11 N with Cisco WAP121. Using WAP121 I get an internet download speed around 0,2 - 0.2 Mbit/s and upload speed around 6 Mbit/s. If I connect directly with Ethernet I get 25 Mbit/s down and 6 Mbit/s up. If I download my files from my local server using WAP121 I get 50 - 60 Mbit/s download speed without any problem. After reading this thread I followed the advice to turn off 802.11 N. With that I get 15 Mbit/S down and 6 Mbit/s up. My setup works fine with my old b/g AP's. It works fine 5Ghz 802.11N AP’s. So why is WAP121 not working?

Other than this WAP121 works great. The Single Point Setup – Multiple SSID’s that can have different VLAN’s and different security etc. It is all very useful if you don’t need a 802.11N AP that is.

I can’t help but feeling disappointed that Cisco is releasing a product where the main feature simply don’t work. For me the conclusion is that if you are interested in an 802.11N AP you should look elsewhere until Cisco have fixed this problem.

1 out of 5 eggsWAP121

Pros: very well designed package if everything worked - ease of setup an excellent features.

Cons: defective wireless N - I'll be returning this unit because wireless N functionality is broken without any means of repairing. Cisco support is awful as I cannot even open up a Cisco TAC case without jumping through many hoops.

Other Thoughts: not sure why Cisco keeps delivering these defective products? new egg should immediately take these off-the-shelf - or have Cisco provide an immediate fix.

this is awful where is our consumer protection?

1 out of 5 eggsKnown defective Item

Pros: Easy to hookup. Good wizard.

Cons: The item simply has issues with download speeds. You can check the Cisco Site. It's been going on for since it's been built. No idea why they are still selling it. If you change the 802.1 settings you can get it to run at about half speed. I

Other Thoughts: I bought an Engenious 300 and it was twice the speed.

2 out of 5 eggsWhy only a fast Ethernet port?!?!

Pros: I considered purchasing for Cisco quality, sleek design, and just to go along with my 861 router added sg300 switch.

Cons: i nearly purchased this access point until noticing that it uses a 100mbps ethernet port which will prevent you from utilizing quite a bit of the bandwidth afforded by the 300mbps N wireless. Of course, in the real world the impact of this will be less notable than on paper, but you'll still always be stuck under 100 mbps! My old $40 wrt310n router is faster than that and its wireless radio is only half the speed of this!

Other Thoughts: I don't need all the extra features of the WAP321 but it looks like I'll have to shell out an extra $100 for the 321 to have a gigabit ethernet port and the possibility of 802.11n speeds. Total fail on this Cisco! Would cost them an extra dollar to use the appropriate port so people can get the speed they think they are buying!

5 out of 5 eggsReliable Device

Pros: Super Reliable
POE capable
No reboots in months
My Throughput Results of 150MB file on 150mbps negotiated connection:
70 mbps DL
80 mbps UL

Cons: Not gigabit, but I knew that when making the purchase.

Other Thoughts: This is the first wireless device that I have purchased that has been worth anything. I have had many wireless routers, but many of those would freeze up randomly and I would have to reboot them. I have a home network of 10 simultaneous wireless devices and have not had to reboot the WAP121 once. Laptop stays up on wireless all day reliably; voice and data.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Device

Pros: This device has a lot of features. Great GUI and I really like the help feature within the GUI that provide excellent details about the features

Cons: This device had so many features it took a little while to tweak my configurations but this is really not a con.

Other Thoughts: My old CISCO LINKSYS 54G was the best AP ever and I've been through many different APs to only be left disappointed and shortly returning to my highly dependable but old CISCO LINKSYS 54G. I think this Device is going to be a good replacement.

1 out of 5 eggsDO Not buy

Pros: none

Cons: Do a google search "wap12 slow speed" before you buy and be warned. Do not buy and get caught up Cisco support merry-go-round. Support has been no help. I am an IT manager and have such a bad taste over this product I will not be buying any more Cisco products in the future.
