2 out of 5 eggsGet what you pay for

Pros: Cheap
Works out OK for a while
Easy setup

Cons: Web interface isn't that great, takes a long time to load for no reason.
It is still "functioning" after a few months but drops connection at random times to everything connected. Direct connection to modem works but router isn't always working...

Other Thoughts: Used this to connect desktop and server to the web, using NAT and remote desktop. It works, but it seems like it doesn't want to anymore. Now I'll have to replace it.

2 out of 5 eggsDon't buy. Old Firmware 2013

Pros: No Pros. Didn't work as advertised.
.

Cons: I bought this little router to replace a ten year old router. The old router was having some issues. Unpacked it and set it up in 15 minutes flat. That was cool. But no internet connection. Called ISP and they said it was requesting IP. I reset the router to default and setup the static IP again. Still didn't work. Hooked up old router and internet works. Went to Trendnet.com to download new firmware. They haven't updated it since 2013. So its an old product they are just trying to get rid of.
.

Other Thoughts: This product should be discontinued and not sold anywhere.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We are sorry hear that you had an issue with the TW100-S4W1CA. Please try cloning your MAC address on the WAN port of the unit and power cycle your modem. With your old router in place, release the IP address assigned to it and then disconnect it. Hook up the TW100-S4W1CA and turn it on and see if your ISP assigns it the IP address it requested. If you would like assistance, please email adrian@trendnet.com and we will have a support representative help you. Please include a link to this review.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Inexpensive (1egg), but see below

Cons: Bought two units, the first stopped suddenly after a few months, the second would not program and was returned to Newegg for credit.

Trendnet apparently has no acceptable tech support. They provide prepared e-mail or telephone messages and never follow-up.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for - not recommended

2 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your time

Pros: Worked fine for about 4 months and was pretty fast for downloads while working. Trendnet tech support was pretty decent and went through the RMA process smoothly.

I'm giving the device an extra egg for working for a few months and for pretty decent RMA service with Trendnet.

Cons: After 4 months one morning could not get a WAN connection. Multiple resets, etc, etc. did nothing. A direct connection to modem and another router worked fine. I contacted Trendnet tech support, went through the RMA process, got a replacement and -- same thing right out of the box - NO WAN! And yet still able to get WAN direct to modem or through another router. What a waste of time and money.

Another thing to note if you actually buy one is that it appears to me that you have to use Internet Explorer (no Firefox, Chrome) to connect to the browser-based administrative interface. Also various items in the interface simply don't work such as getting a list of DHCP clients.

Other Thoughts: No. First and second unit - no WAN connectivity. While customer service was decent I'm wary of buying another Trendnet product. Of course, considering the price what should I expect?

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We are sorry to hear that you had an issue with the TW100-S4W1CA. There shouldn’t be any issues navigating the router’s interface using Chrome or Firefox. There was an issue with specific entries in the user interface but the latest firmware update located on our website should resolve them. If you continue to experience issues with the router please email adrian@trendnet.com and we will have someone help you as soon as possible. Please include a link to this review.

2 out of 5 eggsTrendNet Ethernet Router

Pros: It was easy to set up.

Cons: While I have plenty of technical knowledge with computers and wireless internet items, I have no experience with today's modern ethernet equipment. I was unable to understand the instructions for the Quick Setup, which was supposed to be easy. So, the instructions were unclear, and I was unable to finish a two-step setup process.

Other Thoughts: I wanted this router based upon many good reviews. I wanted a dedicated hard-wired unit for my VoIP phone, to keep the wireless activity of the computers from disturbing the phone unit. Newegg granted an RMA based on my inexperience, which I was grateful for.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We are sorry to hear that you had an issue with the initial configuration of the unit. After the physical connections there is just a matter of configuring the WAN port to connect to your ISP. By default the TW100-S4W1CA is configured to receive an IP address via DHCP. This covers most users. If you have an issue we do have support services available at www.trendnet.com/support. If you are still in possession of the router please email adrian@trendnet.com and we will have someone assist you as soon as possible. Please include a link to this review.

2 out of 5 eggsWindows Firewall kills network connectivity

Pros: Seems to work OK as long as the Windows Firewall is disabled.

Cons: I cannot get this router to work with Windows Firewall turned on. As soon as I turn Windows Firewall on, I can no longer connect to the outside world - or even to the router itself. My old router - or any other router I've ever used - did not display this behavior. Their tech support couldn't get it to work, either. Other than that, it works fine. But I certainly don't want to connect to the wild Internet with my Windows Firewall disabled.

Don't see any port forwarding

Other Thoughts: Didn't have high expectations with this low price. So if the thing doesn't have port forwarding, so be it. But having the thing stop working when Windows Firewall is enabled is too much.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello JoeM,

There does appear to be an issue here. The unit does function with the Windows based firewall enabled here. Can you reset your firewall settings to defaults to see if that resolves the issue? The TW100-S4W1CA does allow you to forward ports. This is configured under the NAT > Virtual Server page. If you need assistance please email Adrian@trendnet.com and we’ll have someone assist you as soon as possible. Please include a link to this review.

5 out of 5 eggsfirst impressions

Pros: Price (and free shipping) were spot on. Had been looking at another routher, but the "ask a question" on it led me to this. Doesn't take up much room (very small) and works as I need it to with 1 PC and a couple of game consoles. No lag, no speed slowdown noticed even when running all 3 items attached.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Was a tad concerned on opening the box. The included cable (3' I think) had several smooshed spots where it had been coiled in the box--Whit seems to work fine without having to jiggle the cable. No eggs deducted.

Never had use for a router before, but definitely wanted wired to minimize any potential lag when playing PS3 and XBox online.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Router

Pros: A good router. Comes with an ethernet cable. The setup is simple, and worked quickly. Can have a switch directly connected to it and automatically configure the DHCP clients. The speed is also comparable to not having the router at all (with a direct connection from the cable box to the computer). Only during the initial stages of a setup was there any slowdown in speeds, which were undetectable afterwards. A great unit at a very competitive price.

Cons: One of the issues I found was that the MAC Address would not enter with the quick setup for cable, but this was automatically configured prior, so it was all right in the end.

5 out of 5 eggspleasantly surprised

Pros: Cheap, works right out of the box. Truly Plug & Play.

Cons: None that I can think of!

Other Thoughts: I was a little apprehensive in purchasing a wired router, I figured I would spend the better part of the day it arrived setting it up.

I could not have been more wrong! Five minutes after I unboxed this, I had My PC, PS3, and MagicJack all plugged in and working flawlessly. Almost Zero setup!

I dare you to find a better product, cheaper.
