2 out of 5 eggsWindows Firewall kills network connectivity

Pros: Seems to work OK as long as the Windows Firewall is disabled.

Cons: I cannot get this router to work with Windows Firewall turned on. As soon as I turn Windows Firewall on, I can no longer connect to the outside world - or even to the router itself. My old router - or any other router I've ever used - did not display this behavior. Their tech support couldn't get it to work, either. Other than that, it works fine. But I certainly don't want to connect to the wild Internet with my Windows Firewall disabled.

Don't see any port forwarding

Other Thoughts: Didn't have high expectations with this low price. So if the thing doesn't have port forwarding, so be it. But having the thing stop working when Windows Firewall is enabled is too much.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello JoeM,

There does appear to be an issue here. The unit does function with the Windows based firewall enabled here. Can you reset your firewall settings to defaults to see if that resolves the issue? The TW100-S4W1CA does allow you to forward ports. This is configured under the NAT > Virtual Server page. If you need assistance please email Adrian@trendnet.com and we’ll have someone assist you as soon as possible. Please include a link to this review.

5 out of 5 eggsfirst impressions

Pros: Price (and free shipping) were spot on. Had been looking at another routher, but the "ask a question" on it led me to this. Doesn't take up much room (very small) and works as I need it to with 1 PC and a couple of game consoles. No lag, no speed slowdown noticed even when running all 3 items attached.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Was a tad concerned on opening the box. The included cable (3' I think) had several smooshed spots where it had been coiled in the box--Whit seems to work fine without having to jiggle the cable. No eggs deducted.

Never had use for a router before, but definitely wanted wired to minimize any potential lag when playing PS3 and XBox online.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Router

Pros: A good router. Comes with an ethernet cable. The setup is simple, and worked quickly. Can have a switch directly connected to it and automatically configure the DHCP clients. The speed is also comparable to not having the router at all (with a direct connection from the cable box to the computer). Only during the initial stages of a setup was there any slowdown in speeds, which were undetectable afterwards. A great unit at a very competitive price.

Cons: One of the issues I found was that the MAC Address would not enter with the quick setup for cable, but this was automatically configured prior, so it was all right in the end.

5 out of 5 eggspleasantly surprised

Pros: Cheap, works right out of the box. Truly Plug & Play.

Cons: None that I can think of!

Other Thoughts: I was a little apprehensive in purchasing a wired router, I figured I would spend the better part of the day it arrived setting it up.

I could not have been more wrong! Five minutes after I unboxed this, I had My PC, PS3, and MagicJack all plugged in and working flawlessly. Almost Zero setup!

I dare you to find a better product, cheaper.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's may be small and not expensive - but it's a awesome little power house router...

Pros: easy to setup, runs, Does Not Slow the network down

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: After going through 3 different top name brand wired routers they would ALL slow way down to a crawl using about a dozen connections. The TRENDnet TW100 works and doesn't slow down the connections - at first we thought it was our ISP that was doing it since we had 3 different routers but they told us "we are not slowing you down in any way" that is when I thought I would get this router and give it a try, what can it hurt - I am so very glad I purchased this. (I got a 4th device to update our wireless network and that too didn't work - after 15 minutes it too slowed way down and once I connected the TRENDnet back up it was fine.

It may be small and not expensive, but it is a Awesome little power house that keeps running and running. Thank you TRENDnet for a great product.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Buy

Pros: Small plug and play. Works great out of the box. One 3 foot network cable is included.

Cons: Small makes it awkward with cabling.

Other Thoughts: Good value and quality.

5 out of 5 eggsEasy

Pros: Easy, inexpensive, no issues, perfect for the application.

Cons: None, although the instructions were more detailed than required, the installation was intuitive.

Other Thoughts: Used to replace two Ethernet adapters (an Airport and Actiontec Mega Plug AV). Although a cat5e cable will be needed, this will free up the other two devices listed above.
Would recommend without hesitation.
