1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this thing.

Pros: This isn't a pro, I needed more CON space.

Avoid this thing if you can. Setup is way more effort than it needs to be. Spent an hour trying every possible method trying to get this thing working with Win7 64 and a Samsung CLP-300. It's completely set up with my printer, both test pages and regular prints go through successfully except they never actually print. This is a printer that have been working fine without issue for over a year. Unfortunately, now my girlfriend needs to have access to the printer and I didn't want to leave my computer on 24/7 to allow her to do so.

Cons: I am really unsure of the following:

1. Why doesn't Trendnet post any type of compatibility list on it's website? I realize new printers come out all the time, but they can easily update a list on their page every month or so.

2. Their KnowledgeBase support blows. It contains 14 questions of negligible importance.

3. Software setup isn't very intuitive. If I gave most of my friends this thing to set up, they would be completely lost. Your average computer user with 2 computers in his/her home should not need the networking experience needed to set this thing up.

4. Quickstart guide included with this hardware is worthless. Plug everything in and install their included software. That's it.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to contact their support tomorrow, let's hope they have phone support, I didn't even check. If this thing isn't running after talking to them by the end of tomorrow night, it's going back. Thankfully, I bought it at a local electronics supplier (lol Newegg, you guys are WAY better than this place) because I was there. This is not a bad note about Newegg. I have built my last 3 computers (2 gaming rigs and my girlfriend computer) completely through Newegg and have yet to have a single negative experience with them.

If Tendnet's support ends up getting this thing working tomorrow, I will update this review and hopefully provide help to others.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Porduct

Pros: Very easy to setup. Works well with my Brother HL-2140

Cons: None really so far. Maybe expect for the design of the product looks like a bit cheap but that personal preference.

Other Thoughts: Make sure before you buy this product that your printer is supported. It will not work with GDI or host-based only printers. The cheap inkjet printers will most likely not work with this.

Make sure your printer is pcl enabled and also that it's a postscript printer that supports PJL Otherwise this product will not work and you will have hours of frustration!

1 out of 5 eggsPiece Of Junk

Pros: None

Cons: It is a piece of junk sold by TrendNet, it is incompatible w/most of printers "an average home user is expected to own".

Manufacturer Response:

Valued Customer,

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Please note that TRENDnet print servers mainly support “Stand-alone” printers which could be found out from printers’ specification. If possible please contact us at sales@trendnet.com, reference "New Egg product review" and our senior technical personnel will contact you immediately to help. We look forward to working with you directly and restoring your faith in TRENDnet products.

1 out of 5 eggsDetects Few Printers Properly

Pros: The webUI was snappy and didn't have trouble connecting to it for initial setup

Cons: This unit did not detect the Dymo or SII label printers I needed it for. Also from other reviews/posts it seems to be many printer models this unit will not support. You might get lucky but I would look for something with more/better printer support

Other Thoughts: I purchased this from a local store in my area, not purchased from Newegg.com. And have promptly returned this unit

Manufacturer Response:

Valued Customer,

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Please note that TE100-P1U won’t support host-based or GDI printers if Dymo or SII label printers as described in the specifications. Please contact us at sales@trendnet.com, reference "New Egg product review" and someone will contact you immediately to help you with your recent purchase. We look forward to working with you directly and restoring your faith in TRENDnet products.

1 out of 5 eggsNever buy this

Pros: Nothing positive to say about it

Cons: Doesn't recognize anything. From an HP 2035, Okidata 5150, Kyocera 3520N, or a Lexmark t612.
Doesn't work, everything is reported offline.

Other Thoughts: I usually love Trendnet products and trust them for many of my network tasks. But, not this piece of junk

Manufacturer Response:

Valued Customer,

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. If not mistaken, we believe all these printer are host-based printers which need to connect to a host like PC or server to be shared. Please contact us at sales@trendnet.com, reference "New Egg product review" and someone will contact you immediately to explain which printers would work with TE100-P1U. We look forward to working with you directly to restore your faith in TRENDnet products.

1 out of 5 eggsNot an easy set up under Linux/Ubuntu

Pros: Great idea.

Cons: Well, I thought it would be easy to set up. I was wrong. I had to change the i.p. address of my computer to dial the device directly as it does not support Linux/Ubuntu. The home page of the device wouldn't load properly or at all. It wouldn't print even though the home page saw and displayed the attached printer. The USB indicator would not activate with the printer attached - changed several usb cables for proof. All three Ubuntu machines saw the printer on the network, but none could print. The software on the device (bios version if you will) was dated early 2009 and offered no updates.

Other Thoughts: Ubuntu has a built in printer/network share option but I didn't want to leave my main machine on just to serve as a print server. Until I find a device that supports Linux I'll have to do just that.

I do not fault Newegg for any of this.

4 out of 5 eggsWireless Printer!!!

Pros: Turns your wired printer into a wireless printer.

It was $10 when I bought it.

Cons: Turns your multifunction wired printer into a single-function wireless printer.

I didn't realize that only the print function would work. You can't use the scan function.

The little driver/tool is kind of confusing. You have to use the tool to set the ip.

Other Thoughts: I wanted this so that my PC wouldn't have to be on for other PCs in the house to print.

Worked great except that when I wanted to scan I had to plug the printer back into the PC.

Then when I plugged the printer back to the print server I had to use the little tool to set the ip again because the ip addresses where dynamic and changed whenever I did this. Very annoying.

I quit using this.

Would be great for just a single function printer.

Eventually I will just get a new printer that is already wireless.

3 out of 5 eggsChange in rating

Pros: Inexpensive and works after learning trick on installation. Need to go thru setup instructions in blue screen window FIRST. Then use what looks like a DOS (black & white) screen for finding and setting up printer.

Cons: Instructions are almost worthless. I tried installing from black & white screen first and after many hours finally got it installed as above.

1 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with HP1012

Pros: none

Cons: does not work with HP1012

Other Thoughts: Wish there had been a way to look up printer compatibility prior to ordering. I can only guess that the HP1012 is not a Post Script printer.

1 out of 5 eggsUSE EXTREME CAUTION in buying this

Pros: Shipping time from NewEgg was exactly as promised.

Cons: Advertised compatible with both Macintosh OS 9 and up as well as Windows. There was no warning that it ONLY supports POSTSCRIPT printers for Macs, so the Macs could not print to the targeted USB printer It did work the first day under XL, but after installing the recommended firmware update, it would no longer print even from the Windows Environment. This server was UNUSABLE for me.

Other Thoughts: With it's advertised description, no amount of care could have avoided this.
