I'm not able to speak specifically in regards to the Edimax router you list, but have not had any issue w/ multiple Netgear, DLink and obviously Trendnet routers. One was even running on a Linux PC acting as a router/PBX. None have presented any issue and all the units I've paired these w/ range from scary cheap to more than my own router costs. I've only had an issue w/ settings on a slightly higher model, TEW-638, and for the cost difference would not recommend unless you really want to replace the antennas.

Note the unit does come w/ an installation disc containing an installation utility to locate the device via wired connection. Simply plug the 637 into any port on the switch connecting to the router and execute the utility. It will locate the 637 and provide the ability to configure from w/in the device. This can be w/o the utility, but may be problematic depending on IP assignments, etc. Once the unit is established in the manner desired, it's good to go. The utility does NOT appear on Trendnet's website, or at least I've been unable to locate it.

This is a fairly inexpensive unit, so don't expect it to solve every wireless issue. They do have good range and can handle a fair load of bandwidth from at least 10 mixed devices; couple laptops, media box, couple IP security cams, tablets, you get the idea. The signal stays fairly consistent for a unit this price, but I put most of my stuff on a scheduled power down cycle to prevent any hiccups.

My real world transfers from other fairly inexpensive N devices using this unit have been 150Mbps and a bit higher, but I don't really depend on wireless to carry massive file transfers when I have a gigabit wire not too far away.

Should you have an issue, Trendnet does have a good RMA process. It can be tedious, but they have yet to leave me in a rut. As long as you follow the road map, they'll resolve the issue.

Question 2

How can I find out what wireless network my modem uses?

Usually the device will have that information on a sticker, along with the serial number and manufacturer information.  For example, it may say 54G or something like that.

However, this AP will plug into an Ethernet port on your existing modem or router and create a separate wireless network based on the settings you select when you set it up.  It won't matter what your modem wireless speed is because it will broadcast its own signal.

Question 3

So sorry that I am not tech savvy. What I am hoping to accomplish with this item is a stronger wifi connection. The wireless modem is upstairs at the other end of the house with thick concrete between. When streaming content from the web I often lose connection. Is this what I need?

I don't think this will be the best answer to get thru the concrete wall by itself.  If you added an antenna booster it may help and point it to the other end of the house.

I added Hawking HAI15SC Hi-Gain Wireless Corner Antenna Antenna to help point in his direction 2 houses down.  His connection would fade sometimes still though, but not often.

Your other option would be to run a network cable closer and put in another WIFI Access Point.  Make sure to put them on 2 different wireless channels like 5, 7 or 11.

If you can afford it, I would just skip all the guessing and purchase one of these babies.  I have one and the range is awesome.  It would be overkill due to all the built in features, but you get what you pay for.

Question 4

My router in in my basement of my house. my smart tv only gets 2 bars on the second floor. My tv can not communicate with the router, will this device boost my internet signal and were should I locate it?

First, they recommend you put your AP in the center of your house. In your case, that sounds like the basement is the worst location you could pick. And I bet it's along an outside wall too. That's great if you're underneath your TV, but that means things on the far end get a weaker signal. Making a small hole, or snaking a wire through, or along side a heating duct to get the RJ-45 up one floor would be helpful. Also, sometimes moving your device only 3 feet can make a difference. Metal ducts, appliances, etc. block the signal. If you are going from 802.11 "G" router to "N," and you have an "N" device on the other end, the affective range/strength can double.

Can i plug in POE cable to it because i wanna use as a wireless Access Point ?

If you mean plain-old-ethernet, then yes, you can plug it in to a wired ethernet network and use it as an access point. That's what I did. If you mean power-over-ethernet, then no, this device does not support power over ethernet.

Question 6

Newegg says it's an  802.11b/g/n and 802.11e. I see nothing in the specs about the "e" standard?

If you haven't heard of it probably wont make a difference to you. It's a back-end improvement to QoS specifications, not an improvement to the speed or strength of your WiFi signal (like with b>g>n>ac).

I have ethernet running to two switches in the center and far end of my house. If I bought three of these (one at router at one end of house, and one plugged into each network switch), using the same SSID, would I be able to connect a wireless device to that SSID and have it connect to the closest AP as I walked through the house?

Yes these WAPs work with WLAN roaming; I have done it with twice with groups of three.

Is it possible to disable WPS completely on this device?  The first thing I do when I get a new router or AP is disable WPS.  WPS creates a -major- security risk for Wi-Fi systems (it can be cracked in less than a second).

Some AP's that claim to allow disabling WPS do not in fact -disable- access to the device via the 8-digit numeric PIN; they merely turn off WPS access for the user.  A hacker with the proper hardware in a car (say) can access some routers and AP's via the WPS PIN even though the user has "disabled" WPS on the device.
