1 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk! Stay clear of it!

Pros: The setup was intuitive, fast and easy

Cons: I bought this for my kids college house that is 115 miles away. I set it up and sent it down to her. It worked well for 2 to 3 months then went flakey. They had to reset it more and more often until it was hours. I sent her my spare router from the business and it has been rock solid. I brought this unit home 2 days ago, reset everything and have been trying to use it. It's either slow as snot or hung. Totally unusable. Belongs in the trash.

Other Thoughts: Stay clear of this! You will regret the purchase.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks great when it works

Pros: Simple web interface, easy to set up. Plenty of options available for setup. Dual antennas. Low price.

Cons: They do this weird thing where clients can't complete internet page requests until you go to a local address first. For example, newegg.com will time out. If I type 10.10.10.5 (or any other web-enabled device on my wired local network) into the address bar and load that page (it doesn't need to load completely), everything will work as expected for a few hours.

I could not get the Repeater mode to keep a connection for longer than 3 days.

Other Thoughts: I'm using twenty HW version 2.1 units and six Hardware version 3.0 units, with the most updated firmware. I've even tried downgrading the firmware to try and remedy some of the issues. The older HWv2 units seem to be more stable and have a better UI I think than the newer v3.0 units.

2 out of 5 eggsCrashed when using Wireless-N

Pros: Good features, decent web interface when you get the IP set properly.

Cons: Wireless network went down several times about a week after I purchased this product. I changed the Wireless Mode to "802.11 g only" and the network was more stable. The CD setup is kinda goofy if you ask me.

Other Thoughts: This product seems to work well in "802.11 g only". However, the default setting is "802.11 b/g/n mixed"

This ended up being a good replacement for the wireless routers I was using. The WAP helped get all of my devices (wired/wireless) on the same DHCP server.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy

Pros: 1. Nice configuration interface via the web

Cons: 1. WiFi would constantly come and go when it was up. After about a day or two, it would require a reboot.
2. I figured upgrading the firmware would fix the problem or at least help a little bit. The firmware bricked the whole thing. Now it's a useless piece of junk on my desktop.

Other Thoughts: Seriously, do not buy this piece of junk.

I assumed I could just plug it into my existing network and forget about it. Unfortunately, I was reminded of its existence every day as I had to unplug it and plug it back in to get the WiFi going again. After 6 months of owning it I decided to check for a firmware upgrade (which there was one). Never did I think upgrading firmware would brick a device.

Again, DO NOT BUY!

2 out of 5 eggsStarted Failing after 2 weeks

Pros: Feature set on this WAP is outstanding. Can select specific channels, specific broadcast modes, multi SSIDs.

Cons: WAP was failing after use for 2 weeks. Could've got a faulty device. Connections will fail from both Mac and PC. After power cycling the device, connections are back up. Very frustrating that the device is failing after such short use.

Might try to reconfigure to use Wireless G only.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Recommended

Pros: None

Cons: A few years ago I bought several TEW-637APs. They were rock solid and a great value and are still in use at a customers site.
The current units (which are clearly a different product – different case and size) are completely unreliable. Connections are constantly lost and frequent resets are needed to keep them running at all. I had to junk them and replace with another brand.

Other Thoughts: It's strange that the newer version of this product is so greatly inferior to the older. They ruined a good product.

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless. DO NOT BUY.

Pros: none.

Cons: Being forced to use a cd to install is bad enough. The cd installed failed and kept re-trying until it accepted my config. After that, I was able to login through the browser.

I have a 6 year old linksys with g wifi, I went out on the street to test the signal and they both had the same strength. I expected a higher range.

The connection kept being dropped from my andriod and desktop. Reconnecting constantly.

Finally, the unit dies when you login through the browser and hit "security" in the left menu. After that, you count login to the router through the browser, and you have to setup the router again with the installer.

Other Thoughts: I don't know why you sell this NewEgg, you guys rock. The only thing Trendnet is good at are patch panels and punch tools.

DO NOT BUY. You have been warned.

1 out of 5 eggsDHCP Failures

Pros: Setup was easy, unit was inexpensive, especially when on sale. Decent range.

Cons: Worked great for the first month, then started having issues of letting the router's DHCP give IPs to wireless devices.

Started needed weekly reboots to solve the above issue

Updated firmware, re-did the setup process, still has issues with DHCP. Where previously it would 'sometimes work' however now it is essentially a paperweight that flashes.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to give this two eggs, but being a product that didnt even last for half a year and needs to be replaced, well, thats pretty worthless.

Unit is really light, gets pulled around easily from cord weight

Expected more range/power out of a stand-alone unit.

When the unit would have problems, mobile devices like phones trying to use the wifi would constantly be dropped and try to re-connect to the wifi to no avail, sucking the batteries dry in record time. Not directly a problem to the WAP, but pretty annoying by proxy.

Manufacturer Response:

Valued Customer,

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We wonder what's wireless strength and speed for those wireless devices from 637AP while losing it's IP. 5 out of 5 eggsGreat Solution for fixing Faulty Wireless

Pros: It is fairly easy to setup like described, it really is plug-in and go. Small, black and compact.

Cons: I didn't like being forced to use the installation disc in order to setup the unit. The installation failed the first time because I let the disc spin down.

You can't login to the device, it is a truely passive component. I was also disappointed to see that this unit cannot be wall mounted, it can only sit on a surface.

Other Thoughts: This is a great buy if you have a router that does not have wireless on it or wireless that is slowly dying away. I bought this because the wireless on my router was giving out and it got me back to normal pretty much immediately.
