1 out of 5 eggsDon't bother

Pros: quick and easy set up and installation. user friendly

Cons: Terrible reception and it is very inconsistent. the connection will unexpectedly and inexplicably disconnect. very frustrating. I bought this to set up my old desktop computer in the family room for my 4 and 5 year old to play pbs kids games on. I get super fast dowloading on my old dell laptop and extremely SLOW downloading with this thing. I will be returning this to the store.

Other Thoughts: I'm replacing with one that has received 80% 5 star ratings by users from Newegg. I trust newegg shoppers and should have looked here first! but, didn't want to wait for shipping to get the kids computer set up.

3 out of 5 eggsCoverage not as good as G

Pros: The 644UB was very easy to setup. I had it configured in less than 5 minutes. 135Mps speeds are awesome! The price was great ($20).

Cons: I live in a 2 story home (1700 square feet) with a basement. I have a TrendNet TEW-652BRP wireless router in the basement. I have a Dell laptop (2 years old) with a built in Intel wireless "G" card. I can sit at my kitchen table with the "G" card on and get a "very good" 54Mps connection. When I switch the "G" card off and use the TEW I get a "poor" 13Mps "N" connection. The same goes for upstairs in my home. I get a faster and more stable connection using my internal card in "G" mode upstairs and in my kitchen.

Other Thoughts: One of the reasons I purchased the TEW was the increase in wireless coverage touted by N. I am very dissapointed that the TEW actually has worse coverage than my Intel "G" card. For $20 I will likely hang on to the card and only use it when I need the extra bandwidth.

3 out of 5 eggsGood 150Mbps Adaptor, it's not 300Mbps

Pros: This is a good 150Mbps wireless n adaptor. It gave me a solid 135 to 150 Mbps connection on all 3 desktops and 2 laptops with 3 routers from 3 different brands. However, ...

Cons: ... It is not a 300Mbps wireless n adaptor as it was inaccurately advertised. Upon receiving the item, I checked the specs printed on the box and it said it could run up to 300Mbps Rx and 150Mbps Tx, which effectively could only give a link speed of 150Mbps. Vista/Windows 7 "Network and Sharing Center" and Ralink Wireless Manager both confimed the link speed was only at 150Mbps.

Other Thoughts: This adaptor uses the Ralink 2770 chipset as another reviewer said. I didn't use the included driver but I downloaded the latest driver for 2870/2770 here: http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Windows.html . I have a D-Link DWA-140 that has the Ralink 2870 chipset and this adaptor gave me 270 to 300Mbps connection speed all the time. This Trendnet TEW-644UB can only does 150Mbps so please don't get it if you want a 300Mbps adaptor. On the other hand, it is a good 150Mbps adaptor. I gave it 3 eggs because it's not what it was advertised as (300Mbps adaptor).

5 out of 5 eggsGreat adapter for G at least

Pros: Works on Linux. I had to compile a rt2870 driver, other than the one stock in the kernel, but it worked after that. I'm using it on an 802.11g network, and it works just fine. Good speed.

Cons: Shipping was pretty slow by Newegg standards, but it was free shipping so you can't complain too loudly.

Other Thoughts: Wicd won't use it on an 802.11g network. I think wicd is trying to use it in N mode. iwconfig works fine. Probably a program bug, not the card's fault.

3 out of 5 eggsOK but not great

Pros: Obviously 2.0 N capable of up to 300mbps. Easy setup, easier installation. Good adapter for PC's that don't have an available PCI slots inside.

Cons: Not getting full 300mbps but i used to run only 54mbps with my old G router (I also at the same time got the Trendnet's N router). Get kinda hot and it like to randomly drop connection sometimes but it regains it back in a few seconds.

Other Thoughts: If you need something quick and don't care if you are not getting full speeds then your good to go here.

2 out of 5 eggsProblematic.

Pros: Employs RALink (2770) chipset. Competetively priced.

Cons: Inconsistent and Poor compatibility and/or reception with frequent drop-outs; worsens as device heats up. Per UCView.x86 device requires 450ma. Tested with NetGear G and D-Link N routers with similar results. Tested with older Compaq Desktop & three year old laptop with similar results. Laptop internal BroadCom wireless by comparison reported 100% signal strength with no connection issues what-so-ever from same basement location in older residential home.

Other Thoughts: It's problematic performance is very surprising given it's use of RALink chipset. Possibly a defective item and/or product. Problems getting TrendNet to acknowledge receipt of material for ten dollar rebate with previous TrendNet purchase.

May work adequately in very close-quarters situations and where kept cool.

Item is being returned to seller.

1 out of 5 eggsMarketing Sleight-of-Hand

Pros: Tech support responding to my email within a day. Inexpensive.

Cons: Only transmits at 150MBps. Wouldn't stay connected consistently.

Other Thoughts: I bought this item and installed it, just to find out it only "transmits" and 150Mbps. However, it will "receive" at 300Mbps. Since the item is marketed as a 300Mbps product I thought something was wrong and emailed tech support. They confirmed my suspicion that this model is only made to transmit at 150Mbps. No where in the product specs of information does it detail this I/O difference. I was extremely disappointed and returned the unit ASAP. Also, it couldn't keep a continuous connection overnight. It's just a cheap product, thus the price. And, "Yes", I did install the software before attaching the adapter.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: - It can connect to my AT&T 2wire dsl/router modem.
- Works on Vista :D
- Easy to use ( follow the directions in the manuel)
- I have gotten up to 300Mbps on a public Wireless N wifi
- Price & Free 3-day business ship
- Doesn't run hot like other USB wireless adapter

Cons: Absolutely none!

Other Thoughts: For those other people who bought this, you should of read the manual before sticking the USB adapter in first. I would recommend this anyone who wants to save some $$$.

1 out of 5 eggsDont waste your time or money

Pros: When it connects it "shows" 135Mbps.

Cons: Will not connect unless you have their software controlling it. Constantly drops connection and reconnecting is horrible sometimes showing 1 Mbps, I Tried using Windows to manage the device and it will not pick up any signals You have to use the 3rd party software or nothing.

Other Thoughts: I will be contacting NewEgg today to hopefully return and exchange for something that will stay connected. I bought the TrendNet N wireless router with it and it does fine with the other wireless adapters I have in my Laptop and the another computer with another brands wireless adapter installed.
