2 out of 5 eggsMultiple Failures

Pros: -Nice GUI for managing the network
-Wireless worked great
-Allows a large number of ports to be forwarded

Cons: I've had two of these fail on me in four years. The original one that I bought lasted almost three years before a hardware failure occurred in July of 2013 that prevented the router from obtaining a WAN ip address (the router would only assign 0.0.0.0 to the WAN ip, subnet, and default gateway). I sent the device in and got a replacement device back from TrendNet. A few days ago, the replacement device failed again. I can no longer make any sort of connection to the router let alone connect to the internet. Both trying to connect to the router through Firefox and pinging the router fails even after a factory reset.

Overall, the router is nice and it works great when it works, but I've had too many sudden hardware failures to recommend it to anyone.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Sean,

We apologize for the experience you had with the router. It does sound like there is a hardware issue with it. Please try resetting the unit in the following fashion. Disconnect the power supply. Press and hold in the reset button. While holding in the reset button reconnect the power supply. Continue to hold the reset button for 30 seconds. If the unit fails to recover after this please email Adrian@trendnet.com and we’ll help you start the RMA process for warranty services. Please include your contact information and a link to this review.

Regards,
Adrian

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Phone setups went fine

Cons: Would not connect correctly to the x box 360. Was on the phone 40 min to make fixes that stopped even the phones from working. Support then offered to transfer me to an "expert" to help me but there would be a charge??????

Other Thoughts: Would not recommend this product or company if they need to charge us for support on a brand new product.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: When the wifi was configured properly and worked, it propagated throughout the house well. Using the LAN ports as a small gigabit switch worked very well.

Cons: The wireless acts up more often than not, dropping many packets about every other minute or so, and sometimes dropping wireless clients altogether.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this router in the middle of 2010, and have tried a great number of things to fix it or work around it, including updating the firmware, which seemed to help for a short while. I've also tried tweaking many of the configuration settings, including the settings in the "Advanced" section (taking great care to research each and its implications, and resetting back to defaults frequently for more testing).

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Tianon,

Sorry for any inconvenience it may have caused you in the past. Just curious that if you have contacted the TRENDnet support and had history which I can use and continue support on this case. 3 out of 5 eggsWorked great, until it died

Pros: -Fast
-Good coverage
-Cheap

Cons: -Died after not even a year of using it. I can't connect apple devices to it and half of the time it doesnt broadcast an SSID. It also drops my connection on the devices I can connect to it sometimes. These things only started happening just recently.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsWORST PRODUCT EVER

Pros: Price

Cons: UNRELIABLE
SLOW
FAILS

Other Thoughts: I bought this router after doing a lot research and I have been let down! The price was not that bad which is what attracted me to it, but after 2 years of owning it, it died! 3 out of 5 eggsWired was Great, Wireless had big speed dropoffs

Pros: Wired gigabit speed was great, I also liked the bright lights and sleek black case and 3 antennas

Cons: the wireless would get speeds only for a few hours after a reboot then would sharply drop to almost nothing. I made sure it was on a clean channel though I don't know if there was some other environmental issues causing symptoms.

Other Thoughts: Would not buy again unless I can find what was causing the wireless to run so bad and fix it.

3 out of 5 eggsWorked well for a while

Pros: The router worked well, gave me great speed while it was in place. Great coverage through my house. I had it positioned in the center of the house and saw it on all floors.

Cons: Router suddenly died after a little over 2 years. Factory reset and long power off did nothing. It doesn't even broadcast a SSID now.

Router tends to be a little warm.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsDrops wired connection

Pros: -Gigabit ports for fast in network transfers
-internet actually seems like its running a bit faster (even though this should have nothing to do with that)

Cons: -drops wired connections from the internet at least twice a day. have to release and renew internet configuration. tried updating FW. that didn't help. Never had this problem with previous router (WGR614). I saw a previous review with the same problem.
-have to log in twice every time to log into router

Other Thoughts: Received as a gift. Was more interested in gigabit than wireless-n. Wireless seems to work well, don't use is that much. I am going to return this and get the Netgear WNR3500L-100
