5 out of 5 eggsWorks!

Pros: Works!
Connected to router with three desktops and a server and working as intended.
As others have noted, it weighs more than I expected. It gives it a sense of quality.
Great price.

3 out of 5 eggsSwitch Failure

Pros: I picked this up on a promotion last August and had it connected to my network since then. I liked the fact that it was Gigabit for the price.

Cons: It failed last week and started looping packets. We were having extreme speed degradation and traced it to this. It took some time, as we have a lot of switches (all unmanaged) scattered around our old building. I did notice that it was quite warm.

Other Thoughts: Submitted a tech support request to TrendNet on their web site today, so I'll wait and see.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello ProAction,

Thanks for taking the time to review our product. We apologize deeply for this matter. Seems to me that there might be a malfuntion in the hardware on that switch. Please contact me at adrian@trendnet with "Newegg TEG-S50G Review" in the subject line and I will assist you with the RMA process immediately.

Warm Regards,
Adrian., TRENDnet Sales Team

5 out of 5 eggsFreaking fast

Pros: +Runs cool
+Gigabit
+Heavy (Explained in Other Thoughts)

Cons: -Nothing at all!

Other Thoughts: I give the heaviness a pro because of one reason, I like the thicker cables (More insulation, less interference), and sometimes having one or more of those will move a device around. Because this thing has good rubber-stoppers, and is slightly on the heavier side, this isn't a problem.

5 out of 5 eggsTeeny-Tiny

Pros: • About half the size I expected
• LED indicators tell me the link is active and working
• A little heavier than I was expecting but it makes it feel like great quality (if that makes sense)
• Yet another great TRENDnet product

Cons: • Doesn't shut my wife up

Other Thoughts: Simply plug it in and it works - like it should. It fits in the palm of my hand which was unexpected.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little basic switch

Pros: I love this little switch. I have bought dozens of them without any problems for various customers. They are perfect for adding a network printer or additional network jack where needed quickly. These devices just work. I have never had to reboot one or have had any problems. Metal box is more durable than plastic also.

Cons: None for the price.

Other Thoughts: If you are having problems after installing this switch, check your cabling. Gigabit ethernet needs high quality cables and terminations or there will be problems.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid little switch

Pros: Quality metal case, switch fabric speed ensures wire-speed to all ports, supports 9k jumbo frames, inexpensive.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Have had this little guy for about 6 months now. Typically used in my lab environment for deploying storage arrays and vmware hosts. Was pretty impressed with this switch's ability to handle jumbo-frame (9k) multipath iSCSI traffic between a Dell R710 host and an equallogic storage array. Thought it would overwhelm this little SOHO switch, but it kept on trucking at wire-speed! Ha, not something I would want in a production san environment, but was more than impressed in the lab. Recommend for sure.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little box

Pros: First thing I noticed; these are metal boxes! I was replacing two 10/100 Linksys switch's, these were plastic. I appreciate the extra bit of weight, they sit better and more stable on the shelf. Plugged them in and that was it; I had just purchased a new cable modem and upgraded to 1Gb/s so I needed new switches. Two of these were less than one (with the shipping) than the "local blue store". What more could you want?

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Not about this box or item in particular; a general note. The packaging this came in (the store shelf box) is really nice. Heavy duty cardboard, full color printing. It lasted about 30 seconds after I opened the shipping box and went straight in the recycle bin. Take a note from other manufacturers and make a generic, low cost plain brown package for "commodity" items like this. I recently bought some items from "the big online jungle place" and they came in this kind of packaging. Better for the wallet and the planet.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: Small, easy to slip out of sight

Cons: i got this and replaced my 10/100 cisco switch.... it had two ports that do not transfer anything and the other 2 ports run slow, worse than my network did on a 100mb connection... cant even stream netflix anymore, freezes and tries to re buffer over and over... if i throw my 10/100 switch back on... it works alot better... i wouldnt recommend this product to anyone, i am now contacting newegg for a RMA and will go with a different switch from anyone other than trend net
