5 out of 5 eggsPays for itself

Pros: * Low power consumption (this switch can pay for itself)
* Very stable (never had to power-cycle it in months of use)
* Gigabit (the results from ttcp benchmarks are fine)

Cons: * Not a big fan of the plastic case

Other Thoughts: According to my Kill-A-Watt, this switch uses 1/3 the power of my previous Gigabit switch. This switch will save you money on your electric bill. At 11 cents per KWh, this will have paid for itself in anywhere from 2 years (if you got a cheap post-rebate price) to 5 years (if I had gotten it without a rebate). For people living in areas with expensive electricity (California), this switch will pay for itself even faster than that.

I also have an 8-port green switch from the same company with a metal case, and the metal case looks soooooo much better (more "professional"); the plastic case gives this thing a cheap look (but oh well, it's a switch, not a decorative item).

In my personal experience, this switch has been perfectly stable (never had to reboot it in several months--and counting--of 24/7 usage), and the ttcp benchmarks that I did between two computers yielded 89MB/s, which is comparable to what I see with other GbE switches that I've owned.

1 out of 5 eggskills the entire network

Pros: cheap

Cons: periodically, this switch just brings my entire network down for no reason. i replaced a cheap airlink 10/100 switch with this switch. everything appears fine for days/weeks then i cannot connect to ANYTHING from ANYWHERE on my network. if i power cycle the switch, the entire network comes back up. this has happened twice since i got this switch in March 2010. it appears that it has also happened to a user of the 8 port switch as well. i put the airlink switch back in may and have had no issues at all.

i have 50-60 devices and around 10 switches/routers on my network

Other Thoughts: i also have a trendnet wifi router that some devices have difficulty connecting to. i replaced that with a linksys and all devices work perfectly. this will be the last trendnet product i buy. the quality is just not up to par.

3 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Works out of the box. Add this between your computers, and then go to the router from the switch (assuming router is 100mbps), then from router to modem, etc....no real setup required.

Cons: The $15 rebate. This process is a bit of a con in more than one sense. You go thru the paperwork and receive a visa card that says debit on it. Then you have to call or log in to activate it by entering a series of card numbers. Then the hints tell you to use it as a credit card....What a scam. The website is 888extramoney. Cannot give the hardware full credit for this bad idea....

Other Thoughts: Lights for 1gig connection turn yellow, not green as described in the manual. Kind of counter intuitive. Trendnet tech support person did not know this, but thought there was something wrong....Looking at transfer speeds you do not get 1gig as it the transfer is limited by the slowest hardware in the transfer (your hard drives and sata/ide. But it is still 2X+ your 100mbps router.

3 out of 5 eggsNot Getting Gigabit Speeds

Pros: * Supposedly good power consumption but I have not had the time to verify it.
* Rebate

Cons: * Not getting Gigabit speeds. I used to have my two computers connected via a crossover cable and received 500+ Mbps speeds. After placing this switch between them I'm only getting about 150 Mbps.

5 out of 5 eggsGreen is Good

Pros: -Very affordable
-User friendly
-Lightning fast, cheap shipping from NewEgg

Cons: -zero

Other Thoughts: I'm using this switch as a "shunt" between my WHS, 2 client PC's and my router; and I'm getting data transfer speeds of 1Gb/s now between server & clients, whereas I was only getting 100Mb/s b4. This box is working wonders for my router as it is splitting the workload with it.

The power save mode is a priceless feature and it actually works. I'm also utilizing all 5 ports and they all operate at the advertised speeds.

Pros: Works just like it says

Cons: Inproper documentation, per TRENDNet:
Dear Customer,

After some research with our product management team. I apologize, however there was a misprint in the instruction manual and this is reversed.

Amber light = gigabit and green = 10/100

5 out of 5 eggsGood Gigabit Switch

Pros: Giga bit Switch for $10. Led to indicate connection and GB/MB connection. Power saving features. Decent manual. Easy setup and working find from day one.

Cons: nothing

Other Thoughts: My Gigabit connection is always in yellow and my other 100Mbps connctions stays in Green.Manual says if the light is in yellow then its a 100Mbps connection..Quiet confusing
