1 out of 5 eggsBuy Rosewill

Pros: I can't think of any... There was a reason they marked it down from $35 to 9.99

Cons: It wasn't "easy' to set up and then once set up it would only connect automatically 1 in 10 or more 'power ons'.

Other Thoughts: Their set-up involves a DVD disk.

Rosewill's mini wireless adapter only requires plugging in and when you boot it connects. And on top of that, upon occasion your can get one for $ 7.

Manufacturer Response:

If you would like assistance in submitting an RMA request for warranty services please email Adrian@trendnet.com and we will have someone help as soon as possible. 2 out of 5 eggsPoor connectivity.

Pros: It's small. It does connect to the internet, sort of. I guess that's 2 out of 5.

Cons: Requires installation of proprietary software that is pretty useless. If you remove the software, it removes the drivers so that's kind of a pain.

It also won't automatically connect to a wi-fi network on start up. Minor annoyance, but while I'm making a list I'll add it.

My biggest problem - dropped connections, CONSTANTLY. When it is connected, the speeds are horrendous. I've tried using other laptops in the same room, with absolutely no issue. It's not my internet and it's not the location, as speeds and connectivity are fine with my other hardware. This device will stay connected to a network for a few minutes at a time. If I start a download, regardless of the size of file/speed of download I'll usually get disconnected once or twice in the process. The longest I've been able to maintain connectivity is 5 minutes, no exaggeration. Then I have to disconnect and reconnect.

Other Thoughts: I can see the other reviewers seem to be happy with this. Maybe my standards are too high, but expecting to be able to use the internet for at least an hour at a time without a disconnect doesn't seem unreasonable.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Charles,

We are sorry to hear that you had an issue with the TEW-648UB. Included on the CD rom are the stand-alone drivers in case you want to install only the drivers and use the built in wireless configuration utility in Windows. Connect the adapter without installing the CD and direct the installation wizard to the appropriate operating system folder located in the drivers folder on the CD. If you would like assistance please email Adrian@trendnet.com and we will have someone assist you as soon as possible. If the unit is defective we can also offer you warranty services. Please include a link to this review.

Regards,

Adrian

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: works perfect, very good full signal, small, usb

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: My wifes laptop has the network card built in and for the last 4 months the signal was only 2 bars out of 5 and the wireless connection would disconnect every hour and only a system reboot would make it work again. I installed this Trendnet usb wireless adapter and ran the disk with the drivers and software and it was up and running in no time. have had it for a month now and the signal is allways full strength at 5 bars out of 5 and never once has the signal been lost or disconnected.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Excellent product, definitely worth the purchase

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you are a tech and carry this in your tool kit, you may want to copy the drivers to a flash drive.

5 out of 5 eggsJust what I needed

Pros: It works on my Aspire 3680 running triple booting Vista, Linux Mint and Snow Leopard. The fact that it would work on OSX was the main reason I bought it.

Cons: None so far.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: small
cheap
works
wps button
activity LED
802.11d for other countrys

Cons: nowhere to put USB cap when it is removed

Other Thoughts: I didn't use the included install CD, I Plugged it in to windows 8.1 with an internet connection and it installed quickly and worked without problems.

It gets warm after use, I saw transfer speeds of 7.8 - 8 MB/s from my intel I5 PC <->Thecus raid.

it is a single band wireless N.

ease of use is.. perfect almost as easy as a wire, or actually maybe easier.

3 out of 5 eggsN but only 2.4g not 5ghz

Pros: small, cheap, installed in win7 by downloading windows update drivers automatically (via existing wired connection), although windows whq drivers from 2010. slightly newer drivers from trendnet, even newer drivers from realtek

Cons: despite being an "N" class adapter, it only does 2.4ghz "N" and not the 5ghz "N". I should have researched more before buying, as I assumed it supported 5ghz.but got on sale for decently cheap price so will keep anyway.

Other Thoughts: small profile, sticks out maybe less than an inch of the usb port. moderately bright blue light flashes with activity makes it easy to see when in use.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

I’m sorry this didn't work as expected. TRENDnet does have N600 or N900 dual band usb adapters if those are what you are looking for. Please feel free to email me directly at adrian@trendnet.com with "Newegg TEW-648UB Review" in the subject line and I will be able to assist you immediately.

Warm Regards,

Adrian

1 out of 5 eggsNot Compatible with Windows 8?

Pros: Less than $10

Cons: Doesn't work with Windows 8
NewEgg doesn't list OS compatibility for this device.

Other Thoughts: I downloaded the latest driver from TrendNet, but Windows 8 still says "Incompatible Program Detected." Newegg's product listing doesn't list OS compatibility, but this adapter's packaging clearly doesn't list anything newer than Windows 7. Shame on NewEgg for misleading customers.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Valued Customer,

Our apologies for this adapter not working as promised. On our website via this link, http://www.trendnet.com/products/proddetail.asp?prod=190_TEW-648UB#tabs-solution02, it doesn’t specify what OS are supported. Unfortunately, it’s not on Newegg and we will work with Newegg to change. Please email me directly at adrian@trendnet.com with “Newegg TEW-648UB” in the subject line and I will contact you immediately to provide a solution. I look forward to your reply and hope to regain your trust in TRENDnet.

Warmest regards,

Adrian
