5 out of 5 eggsToo Easy

This review is from: TRENDnet TPL-405E 4-Port Powerline AV Adapter Up to 500Mbps

Pros: Ease of use, cost, 4 ports, plug-n-play

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This thing is awesome. I paired it with another trendnet TPL-401E and it worked like a champ. Just plug it in and away it goes. Way to easy. Fast speeds, low latency, and just works. I haven't bothered to enable the encryption, because if they are in my house hacking my internet connection via the AC outlets, I have larger things to worry about. Buy without hesitation when on sale.

3 out of 5 eggsdisappointed

This review is from: TRENDnet TPL-405E 4-Port Powerline AV Adapter Up to 500Mbps

Pros: No more wireless, so at least there is great stability increase.

Cons: I'm sure it's the wiring in my old house but 40 Mbps? That's a far cry from the claimed 500 Mbps. And yes I know it says "up to" but I'm still not happy.

Other Thoughts: Paired with a TRENDnet TPL-405E 4-Port Powerline AV Adapter

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

Sorry for your unpleasant experience due to slow speed on the 500Mpbs power line adapter. As you may already know, power line adapters won’t provide higher speed while plugging into outlets of power strip, GFI, UPS, or close to appliances which generates more interference. You might want to try different outlets and see differences. Meanwhile, we will suggest to update the latest firmware via the following link, http://www.trendnet.com/downloads/list_subcategory.asp?SUBTYPE_ID=1530, if applicable. Please also take advantage of the power line utility on the CD to help select outlets in your house for better speed. If these still doesn't help please email me at adrian@trendnet.com with “Newegg TPL-405E” in the subject line and I will assist immediately. Hope to receive your response soon and to restore your faith in TRENDnet.

Warmest regards,

Adrian

5 out of 5 eggspowerlined to the max

This review is from: TRENDnet TPL-405E 4-Port Powerline AV Adapter Up to 500Mbps

Pros: works well with plenty of ports. I have a combination of these and the 200mbs 3 port adapters scattered around the house. all work well togther. the extra ports make it easy to connect multiple devices and pc's. I have 3 pc's, 2 blu-ray players, 2 routers and a nas server networked together at home.

Cons: kind of a pain to reset if you have connection issues. the reset hole is tiny and just a pain to reset pluged in the outlet below my knees. (maybe i'm just old).

Other Thoughts: the 200 mbs worked well for streaming video so I don't notice a big performance gain with the 500mbs.

5 out of 5 eggsTrendnet Powerline Adapters

This review is from: TRENDnet TPL-405E 4-Port Powerline AV Adapter Up to 500Mbps

Pros: I own several both the one and four outlet versions of these 500 Mbs adapters. They are wonderful!! I have a fairly large house. I just plugged them in in the power outlets in different rooms in different levels and connected the equipments through Ethernet cables.
THAT'S IT!! No configuration, no pairing, no utilities!!
There cannot be any more simple than this. I can run many things at the same time without ever experiencing any slow down.
I wonder how could I replicate the results of having 400 Mbs on a 200Mbs adapter and 3 Mbs on this 500 Mbs?

Cons: I cannot give more than 5 stars

Other Thoughts: I am ordering two more right now.

2 out of 5 eggsTPL-405E

This review is from: TRENDnet TPL-405E 4-Port Powerline AV Adapter Up to 500Mbps

Pros: Nice concept of 4 gigabit ports, up to 500 mbps

Cons: Slowww connections. I bought 2 (new) of these from another online reputable vendor at a lesser price. I got these to replace 2 TPL-303E (200 mbps).

I tested them first on 2 outlets which were maybe 7-9 feet apart and gave 400 mbps based on the trendnet powerline utility. I thought wonderful! All light are solid green. Note that the powerline connection indicator will be green if connection is really good, orange or maybe red if not that good.

I then replaced my existing TPL-303E which was currently giving me DL speed of 10 mbps from a 23 mbps from my main router.

The TPL-405E gave a DL speed of 3-5 mbps. And the powerline indicator was orange.

So, I got better connections from the TPL-303E which are 50% cheaper than the TPL-405E

Other Thoughts: I will try returning the 405E if I can
