1 out of 5 eggsWorks until it's been "up too long"

Pros: Cheap. Metal case. Nothing wrong with UI or defaults.

Cons: Doesn't stay completely operational over a multi-week period. Guess that's not a problem if you reboot hardware frequently, but I've personally wasted a ton on time on "issues" that clear up temporarily after you cycle the power on this thing.

Other Thoughts: I'm done with TrendNet for the forseeable future based on this and a tricky problem that bit me with IGMP multicast on a cheap TrendNet switch. A pox upon them.

Caveat emptor.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The only pros to this is that the leds are green and that they are dim and it comes in a metal case.

Cons: I updated the firmware right away. And recently I discovered with in a few hours I have to reset the unit by turning power off and then on to restore the locked down state of the router and that is constantly crashing into a locked down state and refuses to work even though the leds are blinking and indicating traffic..

Other Thoughts: Don't waste your money on buying this junk. I've seen better reliable routers than this one mentioned and my other router slowly died that has worked reliably for many years that I needed to replace and now I have to buy another replacement router that is better quality than this one.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

I apologize for your unpleasant experience with this router. I would suggest to do a soft reset and re-configure. 1 out of 5 eggsDont Buy

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Wont Assign DHCP
Wont Turn on
Firmware ruins device

Other Thoughts: i bought 5 of these from Newegg. 3 are garbage and need to be replaced. Since its been more than 30 days i have to deal with the manufacturer. Let me tell you Trendnet has the worst customer service setup i have ever seen (i should know we are a sales and support business as well.) if you buy this unit and have a problem simply throw it away because its not worth the heardache, time and shipping cost to return it. Trendnet you need to get your act together.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello D7,

I can understand your overall frustration for this unit not working as promised. Please email me directly at with "Newegg TW100-BRF214 Review" in the subject line so that I may understand more about your situations of 3 failed units so that we can replace them to meet your expectation. 5 out of 5 eggsDoes all the things a router's suppose to

Pros: Inexpensive, excellent use interface and painless setup.
Nicely constructed.

Cons: Nothing to belly ache about here, I read the item description and knew exactly what I was buying, a 10/100, 4 port router.
Didn't see the words "Gigabit" so I didn't expect it.
If you get real nit picky the user menu interface uses some descriptor names that can be a little confusing to users with lower technical knowledge, but for the user with just a decent technical ability it is no problem at all.

Other Thoughts: The device arrived with firmware ver: 1.00.00, I quickly found an updated revision (1.00.04) on TRENDnet's website, downloaded and installed it before configuring the router.
The user menu is clean and typical, very easy to navigate and adjust settings, I was able to set IP's, forward ports and etc in just a few minutes, all changes applied the first try without any difficulties or glitches, you must remember to Save/Apply each page after configuration changes are made, this is very common in these types of devices.

Used this router with a high power AP for mutliple wireless IP camera setup and it worked perfectly.

4 out of 5 eggstrendnet router

Pros: Low cost, 20 ports for filtering/ forwarding. Sturdy metal case.

Cons: Configuration settings not rock solid. After updating firmware and configuring unit, had to reset and reconfigure because it would not save password properly or DHCP settings.

4 out of 5 eggsQuick setup; confusing interface

Pros: Setup is very straightforward. I used this to replace a pfSense box and Ethernet switch. It starts up quickly. The instructions suggest unplugging the modem, but it wasn't necessary for me. The construction feels solid, and it has rubber feet.

Cons: Doesn't seem to be compatible with open firmware like openwrt or DDWRT. The interface is confusing. Once you've added entries to a list like static IPs or forwarded ports, there is another separate OK button to actually apply the settings. There was no indication that these settings are not yet applied, so I spent a while thinking that it wasn't saving my settings even though they showed up in the list.

Other Thoughts: The power supply is external. It comes with a short Ethernet cable.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointment

Pros: Compact in size, nice size rubber feet that grip well, looks great.

Cons: Did not show connections from modem, 2 different computers or game console. Did not work.

Other Thoughts: Bought this to replace 8 year old router, tried 5 different times to get this router to work, after one hour I hooked the old router back up with no problems. Returning D.O.A.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat router for the price

Pros: Super easy setup

Compact metal case

Internet is much faster in comparison to the 10yr old Linksys router we were using.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Its a wired router for $28.How can you beat that?

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good.

Pros: Easy set up
Flawless performance
Classy metal case
Better cooling due to metal case
Big rubber feet
sits nicely on Teg-s80g switch.

Cons: It would be nicer if it had gigabit ports, but for this price point I'm not complaining.
Not compatible with DD-WRT
External power supply (but at least it is thin and doesn't cover adjacent slots)

Other Thoughts: I got this router to separate my wifi from my router. I wanted to move the wifi access point to the living room where everyone uses the wifi and keep the router in my computer room where I can watch the flashy lights. So I gave my wifi router a static IP and turned off DHCP essentially making it an access point and a switch. So far it has worked great.
