5 out of 5 eggsSuperior Brand

Pros: All Trendnet equipment I've purchased has been superior in every way. They really do set the "trend" for 1/3 the price

Cons: None. I just buy on promo or blast deals at 3 in the morning...

5 out of 5 eggsThis TRENDnet TEW-751DR Wireless Router

Pros: Very easy to set-up and configure, and have never had any dropped signals - knock on wood.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: It's small size means it can be hidden behind medium sized picture frames, and the display lights are not bright enough to cast shadows

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Cheap - Bought it in a deal.
Wifi speed around 70Mbps
Ideal for a backup router

Cons: Have to restart sometimes, wifi connectivity drops regularly. Using LAN always has higher speeds, dictating the WIFI speed is low.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Please update the router with the latest firmware update located on our website. When you download the firmware, it is in a compressed format. You will need to extract it. There is a step-by-step firmware update process that comes with the download. After the firmware update has been completed perform a factory reset on the unit by pressing and holding in the reset button located on the back of the router for 15 seconds.

By default the TEW-751DR is pre-configured. Test the unit using the default values first. If you experience wireless disconnection issues, try changing the channel in use on the Wireless > Basic page. If you continue to have issues please email adrian@trendnet.com and we will have a support representative assist you. Please include a link to this review.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: it was cheap and works

Cons: there is a unique password that comes on a sticker to get into the setup. i think a lot of people would toss it or forget to change/keep it. the wifi range is very short on 5g side compared to other routers or even a phone hot spot.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

The unique wireless and login credentials are also listed on the device label. Try adjusting your channel selection and placement of the unit to see if that helps. You can change the channels on each band on the Wireless > Basic page. Avoid enclosing the unit in any type of shelving. Preferably mount it as high as you can and avoid placing it near anything that may cause radio frequency interference. Like a cordless phone or wireless baby monitor.

Adrian

1 out of 5 eggsnot working after just a month

Pros: low priced dual band router

Cons: I'm a fan of trendnet after having tried some of their unmanaged network switches. Those are still working after years and uses little power, Tried this unit, intend to use as a backup and an access point. Unit working fine but died just after a month, so cant return to newegg anymore.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsNo Problems - Works well

Pros: Running wireless devices on both bands with good results.

I bought this on sale at Newegg for under $25. I did not expect much for that price but I have always had good results with TRENDnet products. I had this router sitting in the box for an emergency spare - it was cheap. I had another router that did not want to work with my new cable modem so I used this TRENDnet Router. It performed well for me and I kept it as primary.router for now.

The 5Ghz band works well with my TRENDnet dual band USB adapter.

I noticed some folks were complaining about the range. I get good range and my router is sitting on the floor. I live in a brick house and am able to connect to the router while outside. I was able to roam about 200 feet away from my house and keep a connection with my phone.

Cons: I haven't found anything with this router that I would consider complaining about. I would like a USB port on the router, but for the price, I really can't count that as a Con.

Other Thoughts: I noticed others were having problem with the range. Range depends a lot on where the device is located and the other wireless interference. If I place a wireless home phone near the router, it effects my range and quality. This is just common sense - position your router away from any other wireless devices.

When I switched to Comcast, I had problems with my other router. My download speeds for less than 1Mbps and I could not find any problem. When I hooked the TRENDnet router up to the cable modem, all my problems were resolved.

I also noticed in the reviews that several people stated the router did not last or the 5Ghz channel quit working. TRENDnet does have good support and they have always answered my emails. My dual band USB adapter I am using now failed after a few months. TRENDnet offered to replace it but I didn't need to - after removing it from USB power source and letting it sit overnight, it came back to life.

If your router fails try the 30-30-30 reset (search if you don't know) before returning it. I have brought back several routers with a hard reset.. Sometimes the stored settings or internal memory gets scrambled. The hard reset will resolve this in many instances.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Recommended

Pros: Price

Cons: You get what you paid for.

Other Thoughts: The Trendnet TEW-751DR provides dual band Wi-Fi at a single band price. Unfortunately, both the 2.4 and 5 GHz don't deliver on good wireless range. I have installed dozens of routers and this router's 2.4 range is probably average while the 5 GHz range is below average. This was after updating to the latest firmware (1.03). If range was the only shortcoming, I would give the router 3 stars but I ran into a bug. The firewall is setup with a default of SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection) disabled. SPI provides provides protection and it is unusual to have it disabled by default in a firewall. So I enabled SPI and rebooted the router. Then the WPA2 security for 2.4GHz stopped working! 5GHz worked but 2.4GHz WPA2 would not work until I disabled SPI leaving this router vulnerable and NOT RECOMMENDED.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We are sorry hear that you had an issue with the TEW-751DR. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We are unable to recreate any connectivity issue in regards to the SPI setting being enabled or disabled. Please perform a factory reset on the unit after the firmware update to see if the issue continues. We will also continue to investigate these issues and provide a firmware update to correct them once they are discovered. If you continue to experience issues please email adrian@trendnet.com and we will have a support representative assist you. Please include a link to this review.

1 out of 5 eggsAnd on the 31st day....

Pros: Worked great for EXACTLY 30 days...

Cons: Worked great for EXACTLY 30 days... and on the 31st day, and of course outside the Newegg return policy.. the 5ghz band died. And I mean died.

Two PCs on 5ghz band both started to disconnect on the 31st day. Within one hour of that starting the signal went from 4 and 5 bars on the PCs to 1 bar.

I finally moved the laptop to 2 feet in front of the Trendnet and still had 1-bar of signal and it wouldn't allow anyone or anything to connect to it at 5ghz.

I replaced it with my nearly 3 year old Belkin n600db to get everything back up.

Next I did a factory reset on the Trendnet but to no avail. The 5ghz band is dead. May it rest in peace. And yes, the latest firmware was loaded on it right out of the box and before I set it up on my network.

Other Thoughts: Now I just tried for 30 minutes to create a "Customer ID" on the Trendnet web support page so I can create a trouble ticket and try to return it for a replacement. Their web site still will not allow me to sign in with the just created ID and Password. Are we having fun yet?

5 out of 5 eggsBest Price

Pros: Great as a backup for a wireless connection if you have one or more wirelessly connected computers. Great Newegg price, fast easy shipping and covers all current ratings and even came with a base to hold it.

Cons: Small, easy set & use. Own base.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks suprisingly well!

Pros: Bought 1. Using as AP. Knew the transmission distance was limited per previous reviews. Bought a 2nd to improve coverage a few weeks later. For the money these are very cheap, but work very well. The only downside is the transmission distance. I have 2 of them to completely coverage house. I have not had to reboot them and they just keep running without a problem. They work great on 5GHz or 2.4GHz.
For the price they are really hard to beat. I knew this from the start and have been using them as such.
If you need a cheap covering a room and a little more AP, this is a great choice.
If you a bunch of fancy features, pay the big bucks. If you want something that just works, this is a great unit.
With so many wireless devices (3 laptops/5 phones) used in our house, these just work and work!

Cons: Wish they had 1GiB enet ports.
