5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Home Router

Pros: Very easy setup
Super reliable (I have never had to restart it)
Great UI
Open source firmware

Basically, the is the perfect router if you know nothing about networking to aspiring networking nerd.

Cons: Small jffs memory that does not stay on reboot. (this is a not a problem for 99.9% of the potential users of this router, I was playing with nocatsplash when I found this. Higher end routers solve the problem)

4 out of 5 eggsCheap and works well

Pros: Cheap wireless for my wife's parents house, the small size and white coloring is nice. The removable antenna is nice and I replaced it with a 5dB antenna for even better coverage (hopefully).

Cons: It came with 14 month old firmware and is limited to 150Mbs because of the single antenna.

Other Thoughts: I would have liked to see 2 antenna's for 300Mb/s wireless at this price point as other brands have it. I chose Buffalo over the other cheaper brands because of the reviews and my good experience with their high-end consumer WZR-HP-AG300H wireless router in the past. I deducted 1 star for the low wireless speed.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Router for the Price

Pros: Loads of features. DD-WRT is one of the best firmwares you can have. I have this thing broadcasting a regular SSID with WPA 2 firmware, and it has but is not broadcasting a ssid w/o encryption, but has MAC filtering installed. I have a 2meg Down / 512kb Up Internet connection. Without QoS enabled I pull 2.05 Down and .55 Up from a speed test. My modem is bridged and this thing handles authentication. speaking of QoS it is great. If you are a gamer I would recommend using optimize for gaming. I seen a 20 ms drop in my ping with this. I also have a my two main computers a set amount of badnwidth.

Cons: None that I can come up with.

Other Thoughts: I bought this router on 11/26/2010

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great, now!

Pros: Inexpensive and fast. This is my second Buffalo router, and so far, they seem to give the best signal of all the ones I've had. I live in a big 115 year old house and it's hard to get connection throughout. Had a WCR-GN and it worked great, but didin't reach through the whole house. Hooked this up and tried to use as a bridge, but had a lot of trouble. Buffalo Tech support helped me set it up, and it works great with router and Access Point (bridge). Tech was extremely helpful.

Cons: Manual does not explain how to set up the access point along with the router. Took about 40 minutes with tech support person on the line. No where in the documentation or on the disk where the specific instructions explain how to set this up.

Other Thoughts: Setup should be done through the browser interface instead of using the disk.

1 out of 5 eggsCheap Price but Unreliable

Pros: Router was inexpensive. Had DD-WRT firmware preinstalled.

Cons: Router required reboots at least once a week. This just got worse and worse over the 9 months I had it. When I finally pulled it out, I couldn't update firmware or reset to factory defaults, and the router wouldn't reboot from the software interface either. It was also creating huge latency/lag issues through online gaming (Xbox 360 and PC).

Other Thoughts: I replaced this with another Linksys, and this router left a horrible taste in my mouth for Buffalo products. It was nice to have the DD-WRT firmware (which I also run on a Linksys WRT54G to do a wireless bridge to my desktop on my second floor), but not worth all of the hassle. Replaced with a Linksys E1200 that doesn't support DD-WRT, but I have discovered I don't really need it on the primary router, just on my secondary one for bridging purposes.

1 out of 5 eggsDrops Connection multiple times a Day!

Pros: DD-WRT
Low Price

Cons: After slightly more than a month of ownership, this began dropping the wireless connection multiple times a day.

Stock antenna is a joke.

Have never seen wireless speeds above 54 mbps.

Other Thoughts: I tried updating the firmware to the latest, didn't work, then rolled back to the "stable" version, still dropping connection. Don't waste your money.

4 out of 5 eggsNeed to update to latest Firmware

Pros: DD-WRT is a HUGE plus!
Small, Inexpensive, 2 year warranty.

Cons: The stock version of DD-WRT was stable but I wanted more features.
Stock antenna is a joke (please Buffalo, make a better antenna).

Other Thoughts: One egg off that the stock DD-WTR firmware did not include keep alive function (allows automatic reboot at intervals).

Only cost me $26 so the junk antenna was no big deal to replace so no eggs off.

Have an eggcelent day!

1 out of 5 eggsVery Slow Router

Pros: None

Cons: Was very impressed the configuration options till I added this router to my network. I had problems with constant router crashes. Even when using an Ethernet cable connected to the router the connection was slow and a couple hours after rebooting the router it would slow down to a point where it would take a minute or more just to load simple web pages. As an IT technician that deals with this kind of technology daily I would not recommend this router to anyone. Save your money and buy a different brand!

1 out of 5 eggsnot recommended

Pros: User friendly firmware works better than DD-WRT for me. Easy setup.

Cons: After fighting frequent (every few days) dropout problems for a few weeks with DD-WRT, i switched over to the user-friendly firmware and it worked ok for a few months. Then I could not use the wireless printer. I blamed it on the printer and/or Windows updates and wasted considerable time troubleshooting it. Finally one day i went upstairs and reset the Buffalo......Ding! Wireless printing works again!

Unfortunately, with user-friendly firmware, i cant find a way to schedule a reset in the middle of the night.

Other Thoughts: I would NOT purchase this item again. If problems continue and Buffalo does not update their firmware to fix it, i will trash it and buy a Linksys.
