2 out of 5 eggsbad dd-wrt router

Pros: average connection
somewhat easy setup (have to change firmware to get it to work...)

Cons: have to flash the firmware to the easy version (externally downloaded)
not dd-wrt support

Other Thoughts: fine if your looking for a typical router and aren't afraid to flash firmware. bad if looking for dd-wrt support or open dns

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome support WRT

Pros: Excellent Range, lots of features, great support.
Setup a bridge between 2 with a quick link to youtube vid
from support,

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Considered ASUS with similar features but went with price and Buffalo name, to replace a reiliable pair of 10 yr old Buffalo WRG-54S, that had been doing the job.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Good

Pros: Fast. Easy setup for WPS/AOS HP wireless printer connected easy enough. Many features. Scan for wireless networks allowed me to determine who and what was out there and what Freq. Nice box, good range. Good performance for the money. The 2 mobile IPOD Touch and Androids connected without an issue. MAC Auth easy to setup.

Cons: Xbox 360 had issue connecting wireless. Not a router issue, Xbox issue. So solved by ethernet connection. Better performance with hard wire anyway. Had issue with channel on WiFi defulting to channel 1 and killing all wireless connections after a reboot. Updated firmware. Solved by reviewing forums and selecting N only and 40mhz for the wireless and then selecting the channel I needed. READ FORUMS!

Other Thoughts: There could be some work done on the OS for this router. the last update I found was 2009. ??? .. Other than that it has good hardware. But if you are a novice, be forwarned that you could be in for a few hours setting this up and resetting to factory default.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: great range with the High Gain antenna's , easy to setup, I usually put DD-WRT on my home router anyways, it was nice to find one that not only had high performance but also had DD WRT right out of the box!! It's easy to setup and configure and works great..hope to buy the Gigabit wireless (AC) version once the price drops

Cons: the stand that attaches to the bottom doesn't hold real firm, once you snap it into place it barely stays

Other Thoughts: because of the stand, and to increase the wireless range, a wall/ceiling mount would be a great thing for Buffalo to add to this

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works great with latest Firmware (DD-WRT style). I purchased about 3 weeks before they released latest and while I didn't have any issues prior, I have had NONE since updating. NO dropouts and I've got a network with 3 apple TVs, 4 iPads, 4 iPhones, and 3 laptops. Stream baby stream!

Cons: none that I can think of.

1 out of 5 eggsNot ready for market

Pros: No pros for a piece of equipment that doesn't work.

Cons: I have been using DD-WRT for about 4 years, and I wouldn't have a router with it. Our two AP's in the office got a little flaky so I decided to upgrade for better coverage and speed. These routers seemed to fit the bill. I flashed with the newest firmware as soon I got them, but for the past month I've done nothing but fight with the routers. I used the same AP configuration that I've always used, manually entered not flashed, but these units will just not hold on to a client. They continually drop clients or won't allow a connection. Drop the power for a couple minutes and power them back up they'll work a half a day or so then flaky again. I know DD-WRT and I've still been through every user forum with no help. These were rushed to market and the first batch had poor firmware, there was a new firmware release at the beginning of April but that did nothing for my issues. I'll be switching to Asus hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent purchase

Pros: Works great with the latest firmware (April 2012), does a fantastic job of combining a wireless N, 4 port (5 if you use the WAN port) gigabit switch, and easy-to-use USB NAS in one package. (You can share a printer, but I haven't tried that since, well, who prints at home these days.)

Cons: The default DD-WRT firmware is not for the faint of heart. The pages and pages of options will terrify a newbie, though if you have patience and access to Google you can figure out what you need to know (which you will need to do, because the built-in help is near useless.)

Other Thoughts: My network: DSL modem -> this router -> couple of PC's, PS3, DirectTV box (all wired), with an old Airstation router (flashed with Tomato firmware) out in the shop set to 'bridge' over to this one. 2 smart phones using the wireless. I had trouble for awhile with the router resetting frequently, and about once a day all internet access would die. Found out it was because I had the DSL modem acting as DHCP and this router set to just forward it. Apparently I messed something up with that, but after configuring this router to handle DHCP duties (and cutting it off in the modem,) I had 0 problems and 100% router uptime. I use the USB port on the router to host a USB drive, which was super easy to share on the network. The speeds are about 10 MB/s read/write (as reported by Teracopy.) Overall, I'm pleased with this router, even if it did take a week or so of fussing with the settings to get it just right.

5 out of 5 eggsFinally great

Pros: This router is great for range and features. the DD-WRT pro feature is really good NOW. There's a recently (2nd april 2012) updated firmware that solves multiple issues. Get it you won't regret it.

Cons: Now that it has an adequate dd-wrt firmware, none I can think of.

1 out of 5 eggsPass this one up

Pros: DD-WRT Firmware

Cons: Link speed was NEVER above 180 Mbs. I have been in IT for over 10 years, so it's not a matter of not knowing how to set up a router. I spent probably two weeks trying to get this thing to break the 180 Mbs speed barrier performing iperf and jperf performance tests while playing with every wireless parameter known to man. In the end, I purchased a competing brand that starts with a C, and lo and behold, 300 Mbs right out of the gate. Also the link speed would bounce up and down a lot, I assume because of air wave saturation. However, the other brand maintained a stable link speed between 270 and 300 Mbs.

Other Thoughts: I actually have some performance data, but apparently that is not allowed here. So you'll just have to take my word for it.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat

Pros: Gives very granular control with a wealth of great options from the firmware.

looks and feels like quality hardware. The wireless reception is excellent and they look pretty darn cool.

also: gigabit ethernet, IPv6, NAS support.

Cons: The optional "user friendly" firmware is junk. Just stick with the pro and do some reading.

The snaps for the optional base are a little shoddy and pop out pretty easily.

Other Thoughts: As many have rightly noted this is not a good choice for those afraid of technology. However if you are used to duking it out with some bugs this is actually a fun set up.

protip: don't forget to manually set your antennae gain to 5 dBi (by default the gain is 0)
