5 out of 5 eggsGreat as a set

Pros: Bought this with the WLI-H4-D1300 C1300 / N450 4-Port Gigabit Dual Band Wireless Ethernet Bridge and Gaming Adapter and it is easily streaming HD media simultaneously bidirectional between two households about 150 feet apart. I had been trying this for years with no luck with 802.11n equipment. It has held up just fine over the winter (in a protected casing). Summer is next test.

Cons: External detachable antenna for custom directional setups

5 out of 5 eggsThis is FAST!

Pros: ww-drt is availabe now
bought a 1.3GHz router and now it's 1.75GHz
I stream bluray HD video on my Gigabit LAN and now I am doing it wireless with no signal loss.
I have 20+ wireless devices on my home network and nobody can tell when all of them are pulling data at once.

Cons: It dropped $60 since I bought it.

Other Thoughts: I bought 2 of these the day they came out for my computer business because I knew they would support dd-wrt by 2013. I just downloaded the new firmware and it upgraded from 1.3GHz to 1.75GHz. Now while I have not installed the dd-wrt yet on my own routers, I have colleagues who have and it is AMAZING. I will be doing the upgrade this weekend.

4 out of 5 eggsHardware is solid!

Pros: The internet speed is fast and connecting to it is fairly easy. Over all the actual use of this product is great. The hardware side is rock solid and from what I can tell the range is pretty good. I do only have a town house so I don't need the massive range some people require. I have 3 wired devices and 5-6 wireless devices connected some on the 5 ghz band and some on the 2.4 ghz band. The internet does not seem to be taking a hit and is working well for me.

Cons: The software...the software and the set up of this device is the thing of nightmares. If you can get through the set up you will love this router. The problem is that even with the glossary on the right hand side you still have to go into just about every setting to find out where everything is. Almost nothing is in a place that makes sense and anything that is still finds a way to be a pain. If they can update the firmware in the future this router may earn the 5th egg but until then it stays at 4.

Other Thoughts: Comcast made a router that is a pain to set up even worse. If you have a comcast router you may need to power cycle the router a few times. At least that was my experience.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible 2.4ghz Performance

Pros: 5ghz performance is acceptable

Cons: 2.4ghz g/n performance and reliability is horrible

Other Thoughts: I am a Systems Engineer. This router is barely functional as a dual-band router. 5ghz N performance (I don't yet have other AC devices) is good, but 2.4ghz is extremely slow and constantly drops connections. Streaming Netflix or other video over this router is an exercise in futility. Have a media box and a file server? Don't even bother. Firmware updates (currently 1.91) have not helped.

I have a 9 year old Linksys WAP54g that beats the performance and reliability of this router hands down. I have to leave it in place and use the Buffalo only for 5ghz wireless. This is the worst money I've ever spent on network hardware.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent AC Router with Firmware 1.9

Pros: Buffalo AC1300 is an Excellent AC Router especially with Newest Firmware 1.9. Check out the latest Review at Tomshardware, it beats Linksys AC, and even Asus AC router in most tests with newest firmware 1.9.

Cons: -1 Egg due to the NO DD-WRT Support, NAT port forwarding problem. Cannot disable NAT and use simple port forwarding.

Other Thoughts: Buffalo AC1300 is an Excellent AC Router especially with Newest Firmware 1.9. Check out the latest Review at Tomshardware, it beats Linksys AC, and even Asus AC router in most tests with newest firmware 1.9.

The only problem Buffalo has to resolve is the NAT rerouting back to the gateway problem (port forwarding to webserver). If you have a webserver setup this NAT problem won;t allow you to access your webserver from you local network, e.g If you type webserver address 192.168.1.10 and have port 80 forwarded to the server then you will get Router login prompt instead of your webserver page, etc.

I hope Buffalo resolve this issue in next firmware ASAP! I have been running this router for a month now and didn't had to reboot once. New firmware 1.91 did improve performance, but it can be improve more in the upcoming firmware updates.

4 out of 5 eggsAC Router

Pros: Both frequencies offer the speed advertised. Tech support was great. Great user manual.

Cons: Installation was difficult, especially since the installation CD failed to provide anything to the process. Had to call Tech Support to assist in finding the settings. Had to use an IP address to find the settings. Installation of this router is not for the faint hearted. Make sure to download the manual before attempting to install.

Other Thoughts: In todays world the convenience of "Plug and Play" is taken for granted. Installing this router will require some understanding of basic networking.

3 out of 5 eggsNo DD-wrt

Pros: Router has the latest and greatest in wireless technology crammed into it. It also has a USB slot for mass storage devices.

Cons: No DD-WRT firmware installed and no support for it either it looks like. The reason I purchased a Buffalo router was to get a router with dd-wrt installed. A little upset it's not on this one.

Other Thoughts: After a little more review this router is overkill for my network and without dd-wrt i see little need to have it. Will most likely return and downgrade to another buffalo router that has dd-wrt installed

4 out of 5 eggs1 Month Review

Pros: Super fast. Simultanious Dual Band. Faster at half the reception than my previous router. 802.11AC!!

Cons: Less reception that my previous setup (Dir-655 with 3 Amped Wireless antennas). 1.9 firmware caused 2.4ghz band to fail

Other Thoughts: After installing latest firmware. I noticed the 2.4ghz constantly had to be restarted, although the 5 ghz band worked. I went back to firmware 1.89 and fixed the problem. This thing streams 1080p m2ts files without studdering to my farthest part of my house, even with half the strength of reception that my previous router failed to do consistantly.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate To Failed Unit

Pros: Easy set-up, respectable range. Original unit failed and was promptly replaced. Raising rating from 1 to 4 eggs to average out to a 2.5.

Cons: No parental controls. Was hoping the last firmware update would add this feature, but this router does not let me control access for my children. My prior router, which was 3-4 years old, allowed me to schedule the hours they could access the internet. Major oversight which turns this thing into a paperweight for me - total waste of money. I will be back to using my old D-Link

Other Thoughts: I am not a networking person, but think I would have been better served just getting a range booster for my old equipment. I see no advantage for the average person/family.
