4 out of 5 eggsNice range...

Pros: Easy to setup right out of the box for any user base. I really like the range of this router over another router I have that costs 3-4x as much. I presently use this router as a WAP to get better coverage in my home. The administrative screens are plain and without bells and whistles, but they get the job done.

As it relates to stability, the device has been working without fault as a WAP for weeks. Ideally, I would prefer to have a wireless router that reaches across the house without having to use it as a WAP, but this is not the case yet.

Cons: From a cost/feature prospective, this device is over priced. At 64$ for 4 ports and 10/100 speed, there are plenty of other options available for less. It doesn't mount to the wall, which drives me nuts. Why do I want a router, which is tall and thin, sitting on my desktop? I really want to knock it over when I sneeze... Put these things on the wall and out of mind and sight.

It does not have 5Ghz....although the likeliness of anyone using that band except within a close proximity is moot. 2.4Ghz is just fine for modern day use.

Other Thoughts: Its an entry level router and simple to use, but it is overpriced, especially from a brand you've most likely never heard of... This is the type of router I donate to my grandma, set it up and forget that I gave it to her and set it up. If you want that sort of thing, simple, then this is perfect for you.

2 out of 5 eggsAddendum

Pros: This is a note to add to an earlier review. The router has now been alive without reboot for 2 full weeks.

Cons: see earlier review.

Other Thoughts: Don't mean to be snarky or anything like that, but I did a quick advanced search for gigabit routers under $50 on NewEgg alone, and found 14, many first-tier brand names. Not sure why another reviewer didn't find a few of those.

One of the reasons NewEgg is such a great place to shop is its 'Advanced' search tab where I can use specific selections, multiple selections, and text search all in the same screen.

4 out of 5 eggsSimple to set up

Pros: This device is extremely simple to set up and get running. For the most part you should be able to get this up and running in just a few minutes.

For the price range the signal strength is decent, and the wired networking doesn't appear to have any stability issues. Buffalo's configuration menus can be easy to read and quick to set up. Most Buffalo products are also simple to flash DD-WRT onto.

Device feels really stable, and every Buffalo device in my house has been running without issues for up to a couple of years now.

Cons: There's nothing extraordinary about this router that really stands out as unique among the rest of the routers in this price range. The router is stable enough to set up and never worry about issues, but you're getting a router that lacks Gigabit WAN/LAN and a 5GHz radio. There aren't any bells and whistles under the hood either, it's just a standard entry-level router.

Other Thoughts: Some of the other reviews here are really harsh about this router lacking Gigabit LAN/WAN and 5GHz for the price, but it's actually the standard for $50 routers. The majority of routers in this price range will be sold with 10/100 WAN/LAN ports and will almost always be single-band wireless b/g/n, and those that have Gigabit or dual band tend to have reliability issues.

This Buffalo router, while simple, it works out of the box and doesn't feel flimsy or cheap. You'll have to spend a little bit more to get faster wired/wireless features, but they're worth it if you are looking for anything other than a basic router.

3 out of 5 eggsGood but nothing special

Pros: Out of the box functionality and ease of setup are in top form.
The WiFi signal is very good as expected from current gen"high powered" routers.
The unit capabilities match up with the requirements of simply and easily providing standard WiFi service from adsl or cable modem to a household.
The 300HP2 had a small footprint and has the option of being used in bridge mode.
LED lights provide good network information and the browser based setup page is clear and offers all the settings you would normally find on a WiFi router (SSID naming, passwords, firewall options, DHCP controls and basic network info).
Comes with a standard manufacturers 3 year warranty.

Cons: There really is no reason to not have gigabit LAN on this router.
Its a costly device in a sea of cheaper alternatives from Belkin Linksys Netgear and so on.

Other Thoughts: This is Buffalo's entry level n speed router and it is a $50 item among a sea if $25 routers that would suffice for the intended customer.
The router is simple top setup, looks slick and functions as expected I think they have cut to many corners and not provided enough value for the consumer at this price point.
It would be possible to recommend to a non tech savvy customer but not easy

1 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: - Looks nice
- Switching between routing modes is a nice feature

Cons: - Think the device is DOA.... kept getting a
"DHCP Server or PPPoE Server not found." error.
I have 7 other routers in my house, all of them can detect my internet just fine, for some reason this one just couldn't party. Did some research online, tried a bunch of things, tried taking it to a family member and a friends house, but couldnt get this one to register an IP from the ISP's gateway for some reason.

- 2.4 Ghz only? I like to have more options...

Other Thoughts: - I understand that quality control is a tough job, maybe this is the one sour apple out of the bunch? That's why I'm giving this a 1/5 simply because I was unable to fully test the features on this device.

2 out of 5 eggsFast, but fading technology

Pros: Blazing fast MediaTek MT7620A (580mhz RISC) chipset.

Can be put in bridge mode with the flip of a switch.

Firmware and built in wizards are the best I've seen out of the box.

Range seems to be outstanding without any tweaking.

My experience with Buffalo wireless products is at least 2 notches above any other manufacturer. Their products are true "plug and play". I can't say enough good things about long term reliability and stability of Buffalo routers.

Cons: 10/100 ethernet. Even the wan port is 100mbps. There is no justifiable reason why a $50+ router does not have gigabit ethernet.

Not dual band - only 2.4. At this price? I don't get it.

No external antenna mounts or options.

Other Thoughts: My recommendation - spend $15 more and get Buffalo's best entry-level router:

Pass on this unless you want something for Grandma that costs you as little as possible.
