Good while it lasts, but driver problems.
- Pros: Excellent signal reception, could get a strong and steady signal from one floor up and about fifty feet away through a kitchen.
- Cons: Most current drivers have made it impossible to use under Vista Home Basic. Even opening the network connection panel causes a driver error BSOD. The latest drivers from the company are from October of 2008 so there isn't any support for it now.
- Other Thoughts: If the drivers and adapter work for you, this is a great adapter that works excellently. But make sure you have a good return policy if you're trying it out.
Saves money on Routers
- Pros: I was setting up 2 wl-520gu routers as a dd-wrt repeater bridge to reach from the far top corner of a 2 story ranch house all the way to his boat dock at the end of the back yard (like 200 feet through alot of house diagonally). I setup the first router and planned on putting the second at the back of the house as a repeater, but I was getting a 3/5 bars without it. I was running the router at 70mw and had this HAWKING HWU8DD picking up the signal at the dock.
- Cons: Made me look bad. I spent a lot of time figuring out a system with 2 routers and this thing in a wireless bridge repeater configuration. We ordered all the stuff and I was done after hooking up 2/3 of it and it took 1/4 the time. It was like "what was all the fuss about, that was easy" PS: the software's kinda cheesy, but who cares, this is amazing
- Other Thoughts: We didn't need to buy a router at all, or internet service for that matter. This thing was picking up like 10 signals from all over the lake as I rotated it and refreshed the list.
Works well
- Pros: extends the wifi range
- Cons: short usb cable
- Other Thoughts: I was getting poor to average connection with Linksys usb adapter now, with this product, I am getting good to excellent. Works well for me!
