2 out of 5 eggsPoor product life

Pros: long range as advertised was nice when it worked.

Cons: product lasted one year and three months then pow on comes the wonkyness

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry for your experience. What is happening? Did you check the power supply and try a different outlet?
Ypu can contact our 24/7 phone support line at 888-202-3344 and we can see if we can find out what this "wonkyness" is.

2 out of 5 eggswhen it works it is great

Pros: Easy setup, good range

Cons: keeps losing configuration,

Other Thoughts: Had never heard of Hawking Tech but wanted to give them a try. My old Linksys router is on its last legs and desperately needs replacement. When the product came in, it looked well made and had instructions in plain sight along with the CD. I configured it to work as a backup WiFi hotspot and everything was fine. 2 Weeks later it lost its configuration. Had to reset it, hooked directly into it and loaded my previously saved config. It worked again and life was good. Thought it might have been a fluke. Today is the third time it has lost its configuration, the reset button on the back no longer works, maybe because it is tied together as a WPS option (really weird and dumb in my opinion, reset it by accident to do WPS and let someone in on WPS when I want to reset it?) and the WiFi on off switch no longer turns the wifi on and off. Maybe mine is defective, will contact them about warranty.

Tried to download a firmware just to reflash it but there isn't even the original one available on their website.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry for your inconvenience. We have a 1 year warranty on all our products.
You can contact our customer service department to get a replacement. rma @

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good while it worked

Cons: Crapped out on me today after having bought it last May. Not a very good life cycle on these units if they don't even make it 18 months. I'd recommend a different brand moving forward.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works like a champ -- both wireless & wired connected at the same time so I don't have to give up my main desktop rigs' wired connections but can still have wireless on the same network for my laptops to function.

Web setup was very simple.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a Wireless Router

Pros: Setup via web was easy. Detachable antenna a joy, able to connect my 15dB antenna to the router.

No problems noted so far. Range is better than with my older Hawking, even with the same 15dB antenna attached.

Cons: Shame there's no kind of 'parental' controls. Would love to be able to cut off certain systems at certain times.

Other Thoughts: It's a wireless router and like the many hundreds I've installed professionally and personally, it was easy to set up via web access. All my systems connected without any problem.

1 out of 5 eggsVery New Device, Drivers Not working

Pros: None, Router would not function

Cons: See the other Thoughts section.

Other Thoughts: I was not able to get the router to work, I have always had routers that you could simply hook up and go to and configure from there, although the gateway would change from router to router, this one simply doesn't work out of the box, and although many companies will simply put the default gateway on the back of the router if they have changed it from the "Default" Although this router only has a sticker that says made in china, and the model number. I am mainly a Linux user although Hawking doesn't say that their products work with Linux, they have often used Ralink chipsets, which of course have open source drivers, and work with no hassle, don't be fooled their wireless adapters work great, the removable antenna is always a plus, just don't buy their routers, especially this one.

It did come with a "Configuration" CD, and so I went and got the windows laptop from upstairs, and tried to use the CD to configure the router, but to no avail.

Manufacturer Response:

The IP address you had was in correct. The actual IP config address is and it can be found in the QIG and the User Manual.
Also, thank you for your feedback regarding the IP sticker. your feedback will be forwarded to our Product Development team.
